Summary: You knew there was something missing in your life. Something just barely out of your reach, that you’d never be able to get. Not until a strange man with a strange box encourages you to open the fob watch with the odd shapes.

……………………………………………………

You walked into your apartment shrugging off your coat as you threw your keys onto the table. You sighed as you looked around, you weren’t sure why, no one was ever there but you. You didn’t really have anyone, and you hadn’t for as long as you could remember. Where you always so alone? You couldn’t remember. You fell onto your couch placing you feet on the coffee table. The only sound you heard was the faint voices of your radio you had left on in your bedroom. Your eyes landed on the fob watch sitting on the mantle of your fireplace. There was something off about it, but you couldn’t remember why or how you knew that. You stood up walking over to it and picking it up.

“I suppose I could open you, see what’s going on in there.”

How many times had you said that but never did it. You wanted to open it, something yelled at you to, but you never did. You just couldn’t bring yourself to. The longer you stared the more you were certain something was wrong with it. You lightly ran your fingers over the strange drawings on it.

Why have I never opened you?

You were pulled from your thoughts by rapid knocking on your door. You jumped, nearly dropping the watch. You fumbled with it a moment before setting it back on the mantle.

“I’m coming!” You called.

You hurried to the door opening it quickly. Smiling when you saw it was your elderly neighbor.

“Mr. Michelson, good afternoon.” You said.

He handed you a stack of envelopes. Grumpy as usual apparently.

“I’ve gotten your mail, again.” He said as if blaming you for the mix up.

He turned around walking away briskly, you glared after him, throwing the letters on the table by your door.

“Nice talk.” You muttered.

You walked back inside, grabbing your coat and slipping it on. You headed towards the door but stopped in the middle of the room.

'The watch, take the watch.

A little voice said and for some reason you listened, and grabbed the fob watch. You hurried out the door, making your way towards the post office. You were distracted staring at the watch in your hands and didn’t notice the man hurrying in your direction. Not until you and him collided, you stumbled back dropping the watch.

“Oh my gosh, I’m sorry! Are you alright?” You asked.

“Just a bump, nothing to worry about….”

He cut himself off staring at you in shock and disbelief. You gave him an odd look.

“Sir, are you alright?” You asked again.

He didnt seem to hear you to focused on something that was in his hand. He had found your watch and was staring at it with interest. He picked it up off the ground and you watched him wearily.

“Where did you get this?” He asked.

“I don’t know, I’ve had it forever.” You said confused.

“What do you mean you don’t know?” He asked.

You gave him an irritated look snatching your watch back.

“I mean I don’t know, what do you care?”

You started to walk away again and he hurried after you.

“Have you opened it?”

“What? No.”

You started walking faster, hoping to get away from the strange man. You heard him run to catch up with you.

“Y/N! Wait!”

You stopped so fast he nearly ran into you. You whirled around to face him and he stepped back.

“How do you know my name?” You demanded.

He grabbed your hand that held the watch and you frowned. For a second you thought he might answer but then he dropped your hand and smiled.

“Come on, I want to show you something!”

He started walking away and you watched him confused.

“What? I’m not going to follow you!” You called after him.

He turned to look at you, giving you a knowing smiling

“Sure you will.” He smirked.

You looked after him with an incredulous expression. Did he honestly think you would follow him? You turned having every intention to continue to the post office.

'He must be mad…. although…'

You let out a frustrated sigh and ran after the strange man. You turned the corner just in time to see him disappear into an blue police box.

"What the-”

You walked around the box slowly, there was something so familiar about it, so comforting. Once you stood in front of the door you slowy grasped the handle. You pushed the door open, eyes widening when you saw what was inside. You stood frozen in the doorway, absolutely convinced you were dreaming.

“Well come on, don’t just stand there!”

You couldn’t help but smile, you walked in, closing the door behind you. He watched you with a smile as you walked around eyes shining with curiosity.

“Alright, just who are you? You can’t be from earth, not with something this amazing” You said.

“Im the Doctor.”

You raised an eyebrow and walked around the console.

“Just the Doctor?”

“Just the Doctor.” He chuckled.

You nodded and leaned against the railing, you narrowed your eyes.

“Alright space boy-”

He seemed almost proud when you said that.

“Space boy? So you know I’m not human then, you are brilliant.”

You ignored that and continued questioning him.

“How do you know my name?”

He walked up to you taking your watch from your coat pocket.

“Hey!”

“So this watch then, had it forever have you?”

It was an obvious change of subject. You crossed your arms suddenly on guard.

“Yeah, so?”

“Forever is an awfully long time, but you can’t remember where you got it? Now that seems a bit strange doesnt it?”

You shifted nervously and watched him closely.

“What about it?”

“You’ve had it all this time and you’ve never opened it? Why’s that?”

You backed away from him, suddenly feelings very overwhelmed.

“I-I don’t know…”

He tossed it back to you and you quickly caught it. You heard the hushed whispers from it and the Doctor stood behind you. He saw the conflict in your eyes.

“It’s calling to you, telling you to open it, isn’t it? Well gone on then.”

You looked at him, skeptically and turned to face him.

“Why do you want me to open it so badly?”

“Cause you’ve got questions you can’t find the answer to and there in that watch.” He said.

“In my watch? How can they be in a watch?” You asked growing frustrated.

“Y/N, I know you don’t have any reason to trust me, but you need to open that watch.”

You stared at him a moment and he grabbed your hands.

“I promise you, all the answers you need are in this watch.”

You ran your fingers over the smooth metal and hesitated before you pressed the button. The watch opened and golden light floated out of it. You inhaled sharply as it surrounded you. You dropped the watch stumbling back as you felt lightheaded.

“Y/N, I think you should sit down.”

“You… your… your my dad!”

Your vision blurred as you grabbed the railing.

“Y/N-”

“I’m not even human!”

Your heart raced and you felt your chest tightening. Flashes of memories, memories of you, memories of him. They seemed so far out of reach though, not clear.

“I’m not… I can’t…”

Your head, it hurt so bad the more the memories returned. Your eyes rolled back and the Doctor quickly caught you when you collapsed. He watched you worriedly before carrying to your bedroom. He paced your room for two hours before you finally started to show signs of waking up. He ran to your side, brushing hair from your eyes.

“Y/N, wake up. Come on, open your eyes.”

You heard the voice but it sounded so far away and distorted. You tried to open your eyes but you were so tired. You just wanted to sleep. Why were you sleeping?

“Y/N. Open your eyes.” The voice said clearer this time.

This time your eyes flew open and you sat up with a gasp. The Doctor jumped back as you nearly headbutted him. Your eyes looked around quickly and you panicked slightly. This was your bedroom, you knew it, your bedroom on the TARDIS. You knew it was but it seemed so strange for some reason.

“It’s ok Y/N, you’re ok, just breath.”

The Doctor grabbed your shoulders and you looked at him, almost ashamed. You knew him, knew who he was but at the same time you didnt.

“Dad?”

He looked relieved and pulled you in a hug.

“My little girl.”

You pulled back and he looked concerned at you, when you suddenly grabbed your head in pain.

“My head it hurts…” You groaned.

“Let me see.”

He pulled your hands away, pulling out his sonic scanning you. He frowned as he looked at it.

“Its your memories, your body is under stress, you it’s trying to block out some of your memories. Might not be anything serious, hopefully.”

You gave him a dry look and raised an eyebrow. You knew when said hopefully it tended to be more serious then he let on.

“Rule One, the Doctor lies beside, I feel like I’m dying and I’m pretty sure WebMD probably agrees with me.” You joked flinching at the pain.

A sharp pain made you grab your head again, curling into a ball. The Doctor rubbed your back soothingly.

“I hardly think now is the time to be making jokes Y/N. Let’s see what we can do about that nasty headache.” He said.

You immediately flinched away from his touch and put a hand up.

“No, I’d rather you not root around in my memories. It tends to hurt when I’ve got a headache.” You said firmly.

He raised an eyebrow and gave you a look that was very clearly saying 'I’m your father and you need to listen to me.

“Are you pulling the dad card on me?”

“I haven’t even said anything!” He protested.

“Oh I know that look you’re giving me! Don’t try to deny it!”

The two of you glared at each other before bursting out into laughter. However once the pain in your head returned, both yours and his laughter ceased immediately.

“You’re right I was giving you that look, but you are going to let me help you right? I suppose a coma is a much better solution if not.” The Doctor raised an eyebrow.

You fell silent, weighing your options. You knew he was right and nodded slowly, the Doctor placed his fingers on your temples.

“Alright, deep breath Y/N. This isn’t going to be very fun. And I am so sorry.”

And he was right, you screamed and you screamed and it broke his hearts. You couldn’t even tell how long he was rooting around in your memories, all you knew was the immense amount of relief you felt when he finally pulled his hands away. The Doctor held your shoulders, watching you carefully.

“Y/N? How’s your head? Any aches? Any pain? Any foggy memories?”

You gave him a pointed look, which silenced his rambling.

“Dad, I love you, really I do, but you need to breath between sentences.” You laughed.

He relaxed, it seemed you were ok. You wrapped your arms around him smiling happily. He hugged you back tightly, like he was afraid if he let go you’d disappear.

“Really, I’m ok Dad, I’m not going anywhere.” You promised.
