A Glimpse Of Darkened Eyes

A/N: Hello my dear readers!

This is a request from nxrsyxkxrxh where the reader is a surgeon as well and accepts to date Stephen but it ends with Stephen cheated on Y/N.

It has two ends as it was requested. ( One good, one sad)

Hope you enjoy.

The human body is made of thousands of connections with which you fell in love. Medicine was your second language, and as you led the surgery, saving the life of a young man, a smile tugged at your lips.

You were a neurosurgeon, along with Doctor Strange and even if his ego was driving you to the edge sometimes, you learnt to realise how gifted he was with his perfect stable hands.

So of course, you knew Christine. She was a good friend, even a best friend. You could talk about medicine for hours and Stephen often liked to take part in the conversation and shared his point of view. You hated it, how he would impose his idea and not let go until eventually, it led to a rebellious argument which Christine put an end quite often. You didn't know why, but you hated him with your guts. He always managed to make you feel uncomfortable, on edge and sick in your belly. Nonetheless, love has many forms and you were quite unaware with that, as he was as well.

One day he approached you, leaning against the wall after you got out of surgery :

« Y/N, how did it go? »

You smiled gently at him.

« Pretty good actually, he's gonna be okay. »

He nodded.

« Good. Good. »

You tilted your head to the side.

« What can I do for you, Stephen ? Need a hand for a surgery or a new DJ in your OR? »

He chuckled at your statement.

« No, nothing like that. I was wondering if you 'd like to go to that new restaurant with me. »

You blinked several times. You knew Stephen was popular with girls in the hospital and you had sworn to yourself you were not going to be one of the broken hearts he had torn apart after a lustful night. You weren't denying he was quite attractive with his sharp cheekbones, his square jaw, his chiselled features and mostly his breathtaking blue eyes which often managed to make girls swooned at him.

So you hesitated a bit, nibbling your lip.

« It's just a dinner. I don't want to rush you into anything. It's just we know each other for a while now. You're a great surgeon and I thought we could get to know more about each other outside the work compartment. Ease the thing between the two of us, which will hopefully not lead to an argument or a fight. »

You realised where he was going and you nodded.

« Fine. Pick me up at seven. Don't be late, Doctor. »

With these last words, or rather orders, you spun around and left, getting ready for another surgery while your mind was on the « Oh my god, he asked me out ! » mode.

*

This dinner was the first of many more, a strong relationship blooming between the two of you. Even Christine noticed the difference with your eyes shining brighter, a smile always plastered on your face and your confidence boosted by Stephen's ego. Your rebellious and short temper was gone and the beautiful woman inside of you had blossomed, beaming with love.

Except everything has an end and you found out in the worst way.

As you walked peacefully through the hospital's corridors, on your way to leave and get into your comfy blankets after a heavy day at work, something caught your attention.

A noise, a moaning noise.

What struck you what the name moaned, a very specific name you knew all too well.

Stephen.

You froze dead in your tracks, a wave of horror falling over your shoulders as you realised what was truly going on. You didn't need to calculate the probabilities, you knew. You could feel it in your bones: the dagger of betrayal.

However, as the proverb says: you need to see it to believe it.

So you forced yourself to open the door of the Strange's office. All your assumptions about Doctor Strange came back in full force, all the doubts that had burdened your heart about being in a relationship with him resurfaced like the giant wave splashing in your face.

You thought he was better than that, inaccurate to all the rumours but they were unfortunately right and you had the vivid proof in front of your eyes: Stephen cheating on you with another woman in his office.

Like the snap of a thread, your heart broke, love turned into nothing but a deep disgust of the man you once loved. You never said you were exclusive, but when you date someone, opening your heart about your previous relationship and almost saying the « L » word, it means something right?

Well, not for Strange as you saw his lustful eyes fixed on the young intern, lost in bliss.

Nevertheless, he glanced the ajar door whereas he was certain it was closed and as his steely eyes raised up he locked eyes with yours. He immediately let go of the girl and tried to cover himself but you spun around without a round while he screamed your name and tried to apologise. However, all these noises fell on deaf ears. It was over.

Forever.

No one should play with a young girl's heart, it should be treated right, taken care with all the kindness of the world as when it is given, it can be given back in one piece. That day, a piece of your heart was broken, shattered in the blood of betrayal.

Two Endings :

To Move On ( Sad one)

You ran out of the hospital, tears streaking down your cheeks while Stephen hurried after you. You ignored him as best as you could but his yells drew attention, especially when Christine stepped out of the corridor and stopped Stephen.

She didn't need to be an oracle to know what happened. Your crying form and the dishevelled Stephen and the horror plastered on his face were enough clues to realise what happened to the couple.

So Christine stepped out and stopped Stephen.

« Leave her alone. »

And Stephen watched you leave the hospital's doors, his world falling apart as he realised he had lost you for good.

« What did I do ? » he muttered to himself as Christine softly patted his shoulder.

« You broke her heart, Stephen. » Christine stated, frowning at the neurosurgeon.

He called your name one last time and he saw your body freeze, turning slowly to him.

You were boiling with thousand feelings: pain, betrayal, broken love, but mostly sadness. You walked back to him until you were face to face with the man who cheated on you and stated in front of the whole hospital :

« How dare you ?! I give you my heart and you just tore it apart like a piece of garbage. You think you can play with me like that? »

He shook his head, trying to say something but you were having none of it.

« That I'm just another trophy to your list of girls you had in bed? »

« No, of course not. I ... »

You cut him off again.

« Or is it because you're the famous neurosurgeon,  so you can have any girl you want? Guess what ? You can't! »

At each word, you got angrier and angrier until you stated darkly :

« You and I are over ! Go back to your little intern play in your office if I am not enough for the ' famous Doctor Strange'! And if you talk to me again, I'll cut your tongue off! »

With that, you spun around and left, brokenhearted but relieved to have to lash out your feelings.

And for Stephen, it was the most humiliated day of his life as he knew he had lost you for good.

To Reunite with Love :

Love cannot be explained.

You would think it is better to leave the person who hurt you that much while in fact, it is the pain of leaving that is the worst. Staying would ignite the spark of hope but what is hope going to do if he fell straight back to his own demons? Yes, you hadn't seen him in months, but he still lived in a very tiny part of your heart. You heard about his accident, you even thought about going to see him but your fresh wounded heart was too fragile. And you knew that if you had to see him, you'd had to deal with his pain and yours, and you knew you couldn't. It was too soon.

That is why when he managed to call out your name in his strange blue outfit while bleeding out, and dragged you into an inhabited room of the hospital, you doubted his words :

« I'm so sorry, Y/N. She was nothing to me, you are... »

You cut him off. Your doctor mode activated and you forgot you were Y/N the young girl who dreamt to find her true love, you were now the talented Doctor Y/N.

« Don't do this now. Let me heal you. Then you'll talk. »

He immediately stayed quiet, his steely eyes pleading you to take him back. As he passed out from the pain, you admired him for a moment, the needle hanging in the air until he appeared in a ghostly form out of nowhere and almost gave you a heart attack.

« There, » he said, and illuminated the injured part of his body. A small smile reached his lips as he saw you put the needle in the flesh and removed the too much amount of blood. He recognised the gifted surgeon you were and why he fell for you.

This moment was cut short as he had to fight one of Kaecilius' minions while you maintained him alive.

Focussed on your job, you ignored the environment and gave all your attention to your so kissable patient.

Once everything returned to normal and Stephen woke up, you took a deep breath and announced :

« I am willing to give you another chance. »

As soon as these words left your lips, a smile enlightened his lips.

« But, if you cheat on me again, if I have the slightest doubt that you are not committed to us. It's over. For good. »

He grabbed your hands in his and muttered genuinely :

« The moment I lost you, I realised I lost my heart as well. After the accident, even if you didn't come to see me, which I don't blame you, each time I had a hard time, do you know what I thought about? Do you know what my motivation was? »

You shook your head.

« It was you. I thought about your perfect smile, your loving eyes and your voice encouraging me when I was feeling down. It helped me get over the end of my career. So hear me when I say this, I promise I will never hurt you again. I am yours. »

Tears threatened to fall as he added :

« Will you take me back, please? »

So you did what you wanted to do for months, you kissed the life out of him, conveying all the love, the fear, the pain in your kiss as you felt him brought you closer.

And you thought that perhaps, it could work now.

A/N: So what did you think? Not too emotionnal?
