No. Stephen wasn't really fond of children. Much less of a baby. He never really planned on having children, it never fit in his mind he would be seen as a father figure. And it still was the case. He still was single. And even though he did love Christine, he knew he couldn't bring her in his life.

He never asked for it. He never asked for the most important thing in his life to be taken away from him so abruptly, leaving him clueless, not knowing what to do with his life. He still did not know what he would do, even if he had already be chosen to be the next Sorcerer Supreme. He did miss saving lives, using what he knew in medicine to help people through their own obstacles, help them back into the world with newfound hope.

But what if he lost his own hope?

Of course, he did save lives, in a very different and much more complicated way. He had been forced to disappear from his mundane life, having to live in a world where apparently sorcery existed and he was to be the leader of all of them. He still sometimes stayed awake, staring at the plain colored ceiling of his room, wondering why he had been chosen to live like this?

To cure his arrogance? To save lives? See more of the much unexplored world that was his home? Why was he there in the first place? It had been a miracle he had made it alive from that car crash. What if he was already dead and all of this was some sort of hallucination?

As the warning bell echoed around the sanctum, alerting every single one of the sorcerers habiting in Kamar-Taj, he couldn't help but feel a sick sensation at the pit of his stomach. The only thing he was sure is that something was going to go terribly wrong, and damn he hoped he would be able to do something to stop it from happening.

He snatched his ring from his bedside table, getting his cloak and running out of his chambers without even bothering to close the door behind him. The once peaceful sacntum had turned into a mess of running sorcerers, everyone getting ready, ready to fight whatever was out there.

As he was about to take off to head to battle, he couldn't help but stop in his tracks, eyes fixing on a lonely figure, standing so lost in between all the chaos. She was definitely beautiful, he couldn't deny that even under the circumstances. But what had made him stop so suddenly was when he caught sight of her hand holding protectively her protruding belly.

She was obviously pregnant. Now, under normal circumstances he would've run off, keep on with his plan in mind. But there was just something about her, the way she looked so helplessly, almost as if she wanted to help everyone even if it meant risking her child's life. Many questions roamed his mind, one of them topping them all. Where was her partner?

Without wasting a second, he started pushing through the crowd, having to shove aside a couple of the panicking sorcerers, shouting over the commotion to Just keep calm and not act stupidly! And soon enough he was standing right in front of her, hand getting a hold of her free hand, getting her out from her distant gaze.

"Where is your partner?!" He shouted over the annoyingly loud noise. The woman's gaze lowered, slowly shaking her head. He didn't need her to shout it to understand what she had mouthed to him. Dead. He was dead and she was going to be a single mother.

He silently let go of her, face dawned with realization. Her eyes met his and he suddenly realized she wasn't so unlike him. She was just as lost as he was. He had also lost important people in his life to understand how hard it was to get up every day and get through with his day without wanting to drown in the sorrow he felt. He couldn't imagine what it was to loose the love of your life, and worse when you were just building up your family. Expecting a child that would never meet his father.

He wasn't even allowed to say another word when the remaining sorcerers on the training grounds were suddenly thrown back. The warning bell of Kamar-Taj had turned into a distant buzzing as he was thrown backwards, his instincts kicking in as he embraced her without hesitation, landing on his back with a loud thump but being able to at least cushion her fall.

It had all happened so quickly yet he saw everything in slow motion. How some of the sorcerers were pinned to death by the huge debris from the East flight. How some were already standing up and aiding those around them, heading to battle as soon as possible. How some didn't even move, remaining still with open and a far away look.

His breath was knocked out of his lungs from the harsh impact, head collisioning with the concrete floor below him like a ton of bricks. He didn't let go of the woman, one of his arms holding her close by the shoulders and the other just below her womb. She did land safely much to his relief, and by the looks of it, her child was safe.

Disoriented and shocked, he helped her up, gathering her in his arms as he started running with newfound adrenaline, heading through one of the portals that lead to the London sanctum, where the youngest and new sorcerers were being sheltered.

"You'll be safe here" He said, or so he thought since he could barely listen to his own thoughts. He did remember the woman holding his hands in hers as she mouthed some words of pure gratitude, getting a small smile despite how tough everything seemed at the moment.

The rest of the battle was a blur, but he did promise himself that he would see her again, make sure she hadn't suffered any severe damages despite having held her during the fall. But he didn't expect to be notified she had gone into labour as soon as he stepped through the London portal.

He had ignored his sprained ankle, letting the cloak wander off as he ran through the halls and down the corridor, hearing her cries of pain echoing around the whereas silent building. He never thought he would be experiencing the birth of a baby, but it was the least he could do to give the woman some sort of comfort, even if she didn't know him.

But it wasn't until he was just right outside the door that he realized those weren't cries of pain from giving birth. It sounded so broken and desperate, the lack of a baby's cry making him suspect what he was hoping it was just him being wrong. He wanted to be so wrong once in his life, hands trembling as he grasped onto the doorknob and twisted it, pushing the door open as he walked in the room silently.

But he wasn't wrong. There wasn't a squirming newborn baby in the woman's arms neither joy in her eyes. She was sitting up against the headboard, holding a bundle of blankets close to her as she cried in agony, shaking her head as she kept repeating the words No. No! No!

The doctor was standing silently aside, trying to provide some sort of comfort to her as he rubbed her back soothingly. But nothing could really help the aching heart of a mother who just lost her child, without having the opportunity to even meet them. He silently shut the door behind him, having to look away for a moment from the distraught woman.

Her cries didn't cease soon, and despite the doctor's protest, she wasn't letting go of her baby, of the child of her deceased partner. The only reminder of what she had lost just months ago. She didn't care the bloodstained sheets that stuck to her legs nor the fact that her daughter or son hadn't made it through.

Stephen had taken a seat besides her, hesitantly wrapping his arm around her shoulders. But much to his surprise she did welcome the embrace, chest heaving rapidly as she still shook her head, refusing to let go of the bundle. He knew no words were needed as she burried her face on the crook of his neck, gradually letting go of the unmoving bundle. The doctor soon was allowed to take them away, leaving the room and leaving them silently.

"I-I just wanted to see my baby opening their eyes. T-To hold my finger with their little hands a-and seeing the world around them."

But her tears never seemed to stop. She was crying now silently, shaking in his hold as she clung onto his shirt, not willing to let go any time soon. And Stephen made sure she was at ease, letting exhaustion take her away for a couple of hourse. And he still held her, even though it had been a while since she had fallen asleep.

It was difficult finding her around the sanctum. He knew she would frequent the library, the barely habited kitchen from Kamar-Taj, and sometimes in her own room or so he was told. He knew she needed some time alone, but that didn't keep him from watching her afar.

And when she thought she was alone, her calm expression soon would morph into sorrow and helplesness. He would see her wrap her arms around now her disappearing bump, sobbing silently before she burried her head in her palms, shaking slightly as she tried to stop the cascading tears, rubbing hastily at her puffy red eyes. But no matter what she did, she couldn't stop.

Around the eleventh day of watching her cry silently, he decided to step out from the shadows to talk to her, offer her his company, even if it meant that there would be no talking. Everyone needs to know someone is by their side when they feel like the world hates them.

As soon as he stepped in, he slipped, not having noticed one of the newbies had been mopping around the library, giving it a shiny yet dangerous surface to walk on. He shouted in surprise, making her turn around and look at him only to see him trying to regain his balance on the slippery floor only to loose it as he couldn't find steadiness.

He ran straight into a shelf, falling back on his butt as several books hit him on the head, followed by a splash of water on his head as another sorcerer had slipped and turned over the bucket of water.

Soaking from head to toe and with a confused expression he met your eyes only to see her hands covering her mouth as she tried to stiffle a small laugh from escaping. His eyes lit up seeing her reaction, seeing a book about to fall on top of him and transforming it into glitter before gravity made its effect.

As the shiny glitter flaked on top of him, he faced her again, a small smile forming on his face when she was laughing. He couldn't ignore how his heart skipped a beat seeing the woman smiling, happy she had been distracted from mourning by some goof fall he had.

And he knew he would do anything to see her smile again, even if it meant he had to fall infinite times to get a laugh from her. She was a kind woman that deserved the world to be gifted to her.
