(#18) Guess what day is today...

You watched as Stephen ate his breakfast, your head leaning on your hands as you watched him intently. He cut another piece of his pancakes, taking it to his mouth and closing his eyes for a moment as he enjoyed the flavor. You sighed slightly, turning away from him as you rubbed your eyes and faced him once again, sitting in front of him.
"Hey Stephen" You started off hesitantly, smiling at him even though you felt somewhat crushed on the inside. Five years, the time you both have been married and he has forgotten your anniversary every single time. You were the one to remind him those four times, but you were getting tired of it. You felt he didn't care about it.
He looked up from his pancakes, humming in response as he continued chewing. You waited for him patiently, your gaze fixed on your hands which were set on your lap. He soon swallowed and wiped his mouth, taking a sip of his tea. "Yes (Y/N)?" He asked you.
"Guess what day is today Stephen!" You exclaimed enthusiastically, trying to make him remember that today was a special day for you both. Or at least it was for you...
He seemed slightly taken back by the question, taking a moment to think of it since he saw how excited you were. Was it your birthday? No... he clearly remembers it was on April... or May? He stayed still for a moment before he replied. "Uh... today is Tuesday?" He answered.
You mentally sighed as you merely nodded in response. "Yeah, I guess today is Tuesday..." You answered, your smile not as enthusiastic and your figure slightly slouched from sadness and disappointment. You decided to shake it off and ask him later. Maybe he will remember by that time.
You waited until he finished his breakfast. He stood up, grabbed his things and went to the training grounds for his session with Ancient One. You picked up his plate and set it on the sink, sighing as your smile became a frown. Not even a kiss he gave you before going out to train everyday. It made you wonder if sometimes you were just annoying him.
You spent the day doing what had become your daily routine. Wash the dishes, take a shower and fix the always messy bed of you both as always each morning. Your sessions were not until six, so you had plenty of time which you spent in reading or watching them train.
Around two, you set your book down, seeing it was time for Stephen's free hour, which also meant it was time for lunch. You hurried to the kitchen, seeing him already there and with a spoonful of mashed potatoes in his mouth, his attention directed intently on his sorcery book.
You walked in silently, opening the cupboard and taking a glass and filling it with water. You set it down in front of him, expecting to at least receive a thank you.
He didn't say a thing.
You sat down in front of him, leaning your head on your hand as you watched him for a moment. Stephen could sometimes be forgetting. And you knew what you would be involved in ever since you met him. Coping with his forgetting ways and huge ego was really challenging, but sometimes it was so worth for you.
Maybe you were just overreacting. It is just an anniversary... But what if it is not because of that? What if he is just getting tired of you and you are merely distracting him when he can be by his own?
Before those thoughts could go further, you were snapped out into reality as you shook your head, still refusing what could be the truth to all of this. As you focused on what was happening, you noticed Stephen was looking at you as he took a sip of his water.
You took the opportunity to ask him again. "Guess what day is today." You spoke, this time less enthusiastically and you smile a bit forced. He furrowed his eyebrows, his brain trying to think of what important event there was to celebrate. He shrugged when yet he had nothing in mind. "Today starts another month?" He asked, taking a different direction in his answer.
You merely nodded yet once again, slouching on your seat as you watched him go back to eating. "Yeah... I guess you could say that." You replied with a tired tone.
No response from him.
You decided to just ask him to do something fun that night, even though he still didn't remember it was your anniversary. You thought for a moment, pondering on the options at hand for you to do. "Stephen. I was wondering if you wo-"
"(Y/N)" He interrupted you as he sighed, setting his fork down. "I have things to do. I am studying this book right now and I can't concentrate if you keep interrupting me. I would be grateful if you could give me time to study." He replied in a stern tone, immediately returning to his book with furrowed eyebrows.
You merely stared back at him in shock and... sadness. So you were right after all. You were just a distraction. Your presence was keeping him from concentrating on sorcery and training. Your gaze lowered down to the floor as you stood up and left the kitchen silently, heading back to your shared room with your head hung low. Ancient one walked by, noticing how down you looked. Before she told you anthing, you were already inside, the door closed and a tense silence invading the atmosphere.
She sighed as she realized what was happening. Days ago you had talked to her about what you would possibly be doing for your anniversary. That is if Stephen remembered and would want to go out to celebrate. She waited patiently outside your room, knowing what was happening by just seeing your expression.
Her suspicions were correct when she saw you walking out with a suitcase in hand, the door left open. "I'll be going Ancient One. You are the only one knowing where I am going." You spoke, clutching the suitcase in hand as you sighed.
Ancient One merely nodded, walking to you and giving you a tight hug. "I know Stephen is really forgetful, and he sometimes has said things that have hurt you. But I guess you are right, you need to give him time to realize what he has done and try to solve them himself. Just remember he has a huge ego and pride. It will be difficult for him to accept what he has done. I'll try to visit (Y/N)" She finished off, letting go of you.
You smiled slightly at her, nodding as you turned away and started walking down the hall. Ancient One watched as you disappeared through a portal. And yet Stephen didn't realize this until later.
**(four months later)**
"Tell me where she is please Ancient One." Stephen practically pleaded, which was a really rare sight to encounter. Ancient One remained seated, taking a sip of her tea as she flipped the page of her book, her gaze staying fixed to it and paying no attention at all to him.
Stephen sighed as he plopped down next fo her, his hands on his knees as he stared at the wall, pondering on the past four months. He hadn't notice you were gone until it was nighttime. He was already in bed, his eyes were closing, but they soon snapped open when he realized something was missing on the space next to him.
At first he had thought you were still training or at the library since you loved to read. But when he woke up the next morning without you in the kitchen or anywhere else, he started becoming worried. He asked Mordo where you were, only getting a shrug from him. He asked Ancient One where you were, only getting a shrug from her too.
He had sat down for the next days and pondered what was wrong, why were you gone and what could possibly be the reason? Was it having to do with you asking what day it was that day? Or was it because he had left the room in a mess? Or was it because-
His eyes soon widened as platters as he realized what he had done. Oh what he had done! Seeing this, Ancient One hummed in response, nodding at him as if she had read his thoughts.
He almost slapped himself right there. How could he not realize what had gone wrong for you wanting to leave the temple and go wherever you where now! He had been a real douchebag towards you, not mentioning he had forgotten your anniversary, your fifth anniversary! And not only that... He had acted so unloving towards you.
He turned to Ancient One, an expression of realization on his face as he set his hands on her shoulders, barely getting a reaction from her. "Please" He started with wide eyes. "Please tell me where (Y/N) is. I need to see her" He said with urgency and hope.
She closed her book, setting it down on the table as she thought for a moment. She watched Stephen for a moment, as if analizing what where his plans. "She is in Richmond, on her Aunt's house."
Stephen didn't waste any time as he jumped to his feet and ran out to a clear space, opening up a portal, keeping in mind the place you where in. The bright orange sparks soon opened up the portal to Richmond, the familiar land to you appearing right in front of Stephen.
He ran in, startling several people in the way at the sudden appearance of a man throuh a portal. Before they could look further into the portal, it closed, leaving them more confused than ever. Stephen looked around, seeing the many houses that where around. He let out a sigh of frustration as he started knocking on every door, asking for you or if they knew where you were.
He received no repsonse in every visit, wveyrone thought he was a weird or crazed man from the bleeding cut on his cheek, which he had made from an old man who threw a knife at his face and telling him to stop his witchery.
He was loosing hope, only a few houses left to give a try. As he reached yet another house, he froze in spot at the sight in front of him. He saw you in the garden of one of those houses. You were there, taking care of some plants that he supposed belonged to her aunt's house.
His eyes lit up as he started running towards you, his footsteps being loud and alerting anyone of his presence. You looked up in time to see him wrapping his arms around you and bringing you into a tight hug as he regained his breath.
"(Y/N), my (Y/N), I can't believe I found you. I am so sorry for being a total douchebag for so long. I forgot your anniversary and I treated you in such an ungrateful way. Please please forgive me and come back home, I miss you sleeping besides me every night. I miss the kisses you give me on the least expected times, I miss your smile so much. I miss you my love." He spoke quickly, his grip on you never decreasing in strength.
Your mouth was wide open and tears brimmed at the corners of your eyes as you stared at him for a moment. You couldn't help but hug him back, your head laying on his chest as you closed your eyes, a smile appearing on your face as you listened to his steady and rythmic heartbeat.
"Of course I'll go home Stephen." You replied softly, the widest smile ever seen of Stephen appearing as he laughed happily and kissed you with so much love.
