A Furnace
Thursday 4th, Spring
Your POV
Waking up on the 4th day, I walk outside and I'm met with Clint the town Blacksmith. He stands there awkwardly, his hand stuck in a knocking position. Glancing at his fist he lowers it and hums gently.
"Uh... Hi there. Good morning, I noticed you've been breaking some rocks open and finding ore. That's good!"
He coughs slightly.
"If you want to get the most out of the ores you find, you'll need a furnace. Just so happens I had an extra set of blueprints lying around. Here, I want you to have them."
He hands me the blueprints and I smile and nod. "Thank you, this is going to come in handy."
"The furnace allows you to smelt metal bars. The bars can be good for crafting, construction, and tool upgrades. When you've smelted a few copper bars, consider having me upgrade one of your tools. It can make your work a lot easier."
Watching him glance down the path back towards town he gives a slight nod while I roll the blueprint up.
"Well, okay. I'm heading home. Take it easy."
Waving slightly I nod as he walks off. Stepping out onto my porch I open the blueprint again and look at the ingredients I would need. A whopping 20 copper ore, and 25 stone. Committing it to memory, I hum gently. Glancing down the road, I notice the mailbox having a new letter. Walking over to it and opening the letter, I smile gently.
The Joja Corp had cleared the large landslide that they apparently weren't the reason for it happening out by the mine entrance. Rubbing my chin for a moment I wonder if it's supposed to be out by Robin's. Putting the letter away and taking care of the few plants on my farm, I make my way into town. Grabbing any forage-ables and going to the mine.
Getting inside, there's a guy with a cape, white hair, and an eye patch. Hearing him hum to himself i stop towards the entrance to the cave, not wanting to interrupt whatever he was doing. It looks like he was just staring into a big hole.
"I was just peering down this old mine shaft, its been abandoned for decades."
Getting curious of the older man, I walk over to listen to him better and see what he's looking into better.
"Still there's probably good ore down there. But a dark place undisturbed for so long... I'm afraid ore isn't the only thing you'll find... Here take this. You might need this."
Looking at him as he pulls out an old, rusted, and chipped sword. Tilting my head, he holds it out to me, taking the hilt I hold it up and look at it. Smiling gently before looking at him.
"Thank you, you didn't have to give me this."
He hums gently. "If you're going to go exploring for ores, or stone. you'll need something to defend yourself."
Nodding I put it into my backpack and look back at the strange man with the eyepatch.
"Name's Marlon by the way, I run the adventurer's guild right outside. I'll keep my eye on you. Prove yourself and I might think about making you a member."
With that he leaves the cave, hearing a ding on my phone I pull it out of my pocket and look at the newest quest. Reach the fifth floor of the mines. Putting it away I hum before shrugging and going down the ladder I reach the first floor. Seeing nothing but rocks, I walk around them before I start breaking them.
Breaking a few open and grabbing the stones and putting them into my pocket for later, finding a little bit of coal and some geodes too before another ladder appears. Putting the pickaxe away I make my way to the next floor. Hearing this odd squishing noise, I turn around in time to see this green sticky thing with a face coming at me.
"What in the..?"
Dodging it, it turns to get me again grabbing the new sword that I was given, I slice at it. Destroying the slime I look at the slime ball if left behind. Walking over and touching the small ball and realizing it doesn't hurt, just sticks to me a lot. Picking up the small ball and putting it into my pocket I turn and start looking for the next ladder, breaking any rocks for ore and stone in the process.
Heading down to the next couple of levels, I watch as a giant bug goes by me. Dodging it as it came back at me, but wasn't trying to attack me. I hum before looking at it and hitting it with my sword. Watching some pink wriggling guts come out and splat on the floor I shudder gently. Kneeling next to it and poking it slightly, I shrug and pick it up. Might be good for fishing later.
Getting to the fifth floor I sigh gently, hearing a ding behind me as the elevator was active now. Looking around for a moment before checking my phone, the original quest being traded for one where I have to kill 10 slimes to get into the guild. Checking my watch I sigh as it's already 21:00. Yawning gently and stretching I go to the elevator to leave the mine. Getting to the main floor I walk home and grab some of the new things I've gathered and putting them into the shipping bin. Walking inside I put my stuff down before getting into bed. It's been a long day of breaking rocks, and killing slimes. Tomorrow I'll head back and get those 10 slimes so I can get into the guild, and check that out.
According to Wattpad this book is like 2 years old, this was the last part I had prewritten as of 2022. Hopefully I'll remember to write some more for this but we'll see. My memory is shit
