Taehyung and Sri returned to his apartment, the atmosphere heavy with unease. Their hideout had been compromised after the attack, and the weight of the situation lingered in the air. Seokjin and Yoongi had dropped by during their off days, creating an unusual tension that always seemed to fill the space when Taehyung was absent.
"She is cute," Yoongi remarked, a rare smile gracing his lips as he sprawled on the couch, his eyes glued to a picture of Taesoo that Taehyung had sent him.
Taehyung couldn't help but faintly smile back. The image of his daughter seemed to lighten even the grumpy Min Yoongi's mood. "She is the cutest," he replied, pride swelling in his chest.
"Taehyung... the assemblyman will be ready for the operation very soon. I hope you'll be able to handle it since you know..." Seokjin trailed off, his concern evident.
Taehyung nodded, biting his lip. Emotions were something he had learned to manage as a doctor, but this was different. He hoped with every ounce of his being that Taesoo would be rescued before the operation took place.
Their conversation was interrupted when Sri entered, placing coffee mugs in front of each of them, except for Taehyung, who preferred tea. Seokjin eyed the drinks suspiciously for a moment before Sri assured him, "It's not spiked."
The oldest doctor rolled his eyes and took a sip of his coffee. "I never said it was."
"Sure," she replied, a sarcastic smile on her face as she settled into the seat beside her husband.
Taehyung sat in silence for a moment, his gaze distant as he lost himself in thought. He flinched when Sri placed her hands over his. "Hey?" she called softly. The doctor hummed in response, snapping back to reality. "What are you thinking?"
"About our next move. Now that we have a hostage, how can we track the gang?" His eyes were fixed on the ripples in his cup, lost in contemplation. He periodically wetted his lips by licking them, a habit he had developed since childhood.
"I think it's time for me to visit Commissioner Hoseok," Sri stated, her voice steady but determined.
Taehyung's grip on the cup tightened at her words. "Are you sure this will go as planned?"
Sri fell silent, the weight of her decision settling heavily in the room. It seemed like the easiest path forward, but she knew it carried risks. While there was another option she could consider, she preferred to save that for last, if nothing worked. "Do you have a better option?" she pressed, meeting his gaze with resolve.
The doctor searched for words but found none. With a defeated sigh, he finally replied, "Fine. I'll go with you."
"No." Seokjin interjected suddenly, a tone of authority in his voice. Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, expecting an explanation. "You two can't go together. Knowing the circumstances and with you living with a wanted woman... things might get messed up. Just avoid visiting the police station together," he clarified, his gaze unwavering.
"He's right," Yoongi chimed in, his voice steady as he leaned back on the couch.
Taehyung understood the implication behind Seokjin's words, the unspoken dangers that loomed over them. "But she can't go there alone," he protested, concern flooding his voice.
"She won't go alone." Seokjin eyed Yoongi and that's when the latter knew trouble awaited him. "Yoongi will be going with her."
The night's sleep had slipped away from Hoseok, leaving him restless and anxious. It was the third consecutive day that someone had inexplicably dropped unconscious criminals in front of the police station, and despite their efforts, nobody had caught sight of this mysterious figure. A truck driver they apprehended had claimed ignorance, stating that someone had dumped the unconscious men into his truck at night, leaving him none the wiser.
Name: Jung Hoseok
Profession: Commissioner of Korean Police
Likes: Honesty and Justice, loving husband and a caring father.
Dislikes: Injustice and people who goes against the law.
As the stars twinkled brightly against the dark sky, the clock struck seven, prompting Hoseok to finally rise from his desk, ready to return home to his wife and kids. He locked the drawer containing confidential documents, tucking the key into his pocket.
Just as he was about to get into his car, his phone rang. Initially thinking it was Arshu, he was surprised to see Yoongi's name flashing on the screen. "Hey, doc!" he greeted cheerfully. Ever since the Titans incident, Hoseok had formed a close friendship with Seokjin and Yoongi, often hanging out and sharing drinks together.
"Hey." Yoongi's voice came through, curt and serious. "Can we meet?"
"N-now?" Hoseok checked his watch, surprised by the urgency.
"Yes. I have something to discuss." Yoongi sounded hesitant, and there were faint disturbances in the background that raised alarm bells in Hoseok's mind.
"Is everything okay? Are you in trouble?" Hoseok asked, concern creeping into his tone.
"No, no. I'm fine... it's just—We'll talk in person."
"Okay. Let's meet at our usual café in ten." He ended the call and climbed into his car. Checking his shotgun, he felt a sense of satisfaction at seeing it fully loaded. He fastened his seatbelt and drove off, unwilling to take any risks.
Jung Hoseok settled at an empty table in the café, anticipation tingling in the air as he waited for Yoongi to arrive. True to his word, Yoongi appeared about ten minutes later, scanning the room until he spotted Hoseok. "Hey!! Here!!" he exclaimed, his voice too loud for the serene atmosphere, drawing judgmental glances from nearby patrons. Who would have guessed this boisterous man was a commissioner?
Yoongi sighed, feeling the weight of exhaustion settle on his shoulders. It was going to be a long night; first, he had to contend with a stubborn woman, and now this hyperactive officer. He walked over to Hoseok, deliberately ignoring his overzealous greeting. When Hoseok jumped up for a hug, Yoongi pushed him away. "Maintain distance."
Hoseok pouted, glancing away. "You never acknowledge my greetings. I sacrificed family time to meet you, and this is how I get treated?"
"Okay, okay, now cut it with your drama and talk about the matter, shall we?" Yoongi urged, trying to regain some professionalism.
Instantly, the playful officer switched gears, getting serious. "What is it?"
"You'll see." Yoongi placed a phone call, instructing the person on the other end to come in. A moment later, a woman entered the café, her face concealed beneath a scarf and oversized sunglasses, even though it was nighttime.
Hoseok's jaw dropped as the woman took a seat next to Yoongi. "Don't tell me you got married or, worse, she's pregnant because you forgot to take protection!" he exclaimed, his voice incredulous.
Yoongi's cheeks flushed red with embarrassment as he slammed his forehead against the table. "It's nothing like that!"
Hoseok's mischievous grin faded as the woman revealed her face. "You?!" he exclaimed, his hand instinctively gripping the gun tucked into his waist behind his suit. "What are you doing here?" His playful demeanor vanished, replaced by an angry glare.
Sri looked down momentarily, then locked her icy gaze with his. A small, knowing smile crept onto her lips. "We meet again, officer."
"What the hell is this?! You were supposed to be dead!" Hoseok's voice rose, his pulse quickening. The woman who haunted the nightmares of many in Korea sat before him, smirking. "Yoongi, are you siding with a criminal now?!"
"Long story short, I'm compelled. And no, I am not a hostage," Yoongi replied, his tone defensive.
"Gods didn't like me in heaven, so here I am," She chuckled, hiding her face behind her scarf once more. She could hear Yoongi mumbling, 'as if you will ever go to heaven,' but she chose to ignore him for now; she could deal with the doctor later.
"What do you want?" Hoseok rasped, his eyes narrowing dangerously.
"I need help."
