"The Writer"
"... we call him, 'The Writer'" the mayor said, suddenly turning serious. "Why? Is it because he writes stuff?" Dobb asked. "Exactly! He writes. This is his library. He wrote everysingle book that you see in this library... apart from one." the mayor said mysteriously.
Dobb always seemed to get excited in the face of mystery, "Which one?!" he asked with absolutely no patience. "The diary of course." the mayor answered. "Alice's diary was kept in this library?" Dobb asked, again. "Yes. The girl who wrote this seemed to have a very strong imagination... so strong that even 'The Writer' feared her."
"So 'The Writer' had strong imagination too... but doesn't it seem like he was more like jealous rather than afraid?" Dobb said. "Who knows... we don't know much about him either."
They kept talking as they continued to look around in the books. "What I know is merely a legend about him." the mayor said, "And the legend says that, he is actually the soul of a doll maker who loved to write short stories. But died in a fire that suddenly formed in his shop while trying to melt something. That is why he looks absolutely black."
"What about the diary?" Dobb asked. "The diary you say... 'The Writer' took the diary of the girl when he also stole something that was similar to you. A dull? dell? dall? dill?-", "The Doll?" Dobb said with a tired expression on his face. "Yes, yes. A doll." the mayor continued. "And that doll was Maria!" Dobb shouted with excitement. "Well, I don't really know the name, but anyways. He stole the doll along with her library and came back to Spoohallow."
"Then what happened?" Dobb asked. "Nothing..." the mayor said disappointedly. "Nothing? But why? Something must've happened after that.", "Yes, but, I'm afraid the rest has been removed from my memory." the mayor said. "What?! How is that even possible?!" Dobb shouted. "It doesn't matter how it happened. Our objective right now is to find the diary." the mayor said as he continued to look on the shelves.
"Dobb, can I look at that page once again?", "Okay, but what if you try to run away with it?" Dobb said, trying to refuse him.
"Even so, you can get rid of me any second you want." The mayor had a point so Dobb decided to trust him and gave him the page. The mayor took the page and started to examine it. He smelled it, read it and observed it. The page smelled like something, "It smells like soil..." the mayor mumbled.
He thought quietly for a while, "Soil... from a graveyard! Dobb let's search the graveyard!" Dobb turned to the mayor, trying to figure out why they should search the graveyard, "Why?"
"I just remembered something!" the mayor said. "You did? About what?" Dobb asked. "When he stole the diary and the doll, he hid the diary within the doll and buried it! The page smells like soil and Spoohallow only has soil in the-" and Dobb continued the sentence, "-in the graveyard...! Brilliant mayor! Let's go there quickly!"
"Yes!"
