Chapter 14

July 15th, 1960
9:03 a.m.

"Love, hurry up 'm starving!"

I giggled, finishing my eyeliner as I poked my head out around the bathroom door to see George sprawled out dramatically on my bed.

I tiptoed out quietly to the edge of the bed, grinning as I carefully pounced on him.

"Yer trying to scare me are you?" He smirked, lifting his head slightly off the pillow and cocking an eyebrow.

"No..." I quipped, scooting closer to the edge of the bed.

"I won't 'ave it..." he extended his arm, lamely grabbing my wrist.

"I've obviously got to show you whose in charge 'ere..." he joked winking at me, pulling me down on the bed next to him.

"Not more tickling, please! My sides are still sore from yesterday!" I exclaimed dramatically throwing my arm over my eyes.

"Yer cute, Jacqueline..." he chuckled, moving closer beside me as he loosely draped an arm across me.

"Georgie?"

"Yes, my love?"

"Why are you here so early?" I giggled, peeking at him over my arm.

"I must've missed you I suppose..."

"I can't imagine why you would." I giggled, as he scooted closer to me, tightening his grasp around me.

"Mm, don't you miss me when 'm not around?"

I giggled, gently playing with his quiffed hair as I pondered his question.

"Maybe..."

"Yer lying! I know you do!" He exclaimed, playfully jabbing my side.

"Prove it!" I giggled, raising a challenging eyebrow at him.

"I know fer a fact you miss me when 'm gone because about four years ago when I went to holiday camp with me cousins, mum told me that you called everyday I was gone to see if I was back!"

"George that was then, what about the now?" I laughed, remembering the incident he was talking about.

"You 'aven't changed..." he whispered, softly pecking the side of my head.

"How'd you know?"

"I've just got an inkling..." he winked, smiling cheekily as he stood up.

"You hungry yet?"

"It's only like nine fifteen."

"I know but I'm standing 'ere withering away, so get yer shoes on and let's go."

"Fine, let's go." I mumbled, slipping my shoes on and linking arms with George before heading out for an early lunch.

"Let's just go in 'ere, I'll buy you whatever you want."

"Georgie, no! I'll buy my own food." I argued as he opened the door for me with his free hand.

"No girl of mine is gonna buy 'er own stuff when 'm around. 'Specially not you Miss Matthews." He winked, squeezing my hand that he held in his.

"I-I'm one of your girls?" I stuttered, blushing madly, refusing to make eye contact with him.

"Yer me only girl, princess..." he mumbled shyly, blinking as his velvety eyes shone down on me with admiration.

"Do you-" I started only to be interrupted by the loud smacking of lips, and the rapid clicking of a pen.

I glanced up quickly, and low and behold stood Francie Upton. I grimaced, slightly uncomfortable standing in her presence. It wasn't that I hated her, I just really didn't care for her. In school we had never gotten along, no matter how nice I was to her she always had some kind of beef against me.

I glanced back down quickly, the sound of her smacking lips instantly reminding me of a cow chewing it's cud. "Well, well, well, if it isn't little miss perfect..." she spat, glaring at me as she continued her incessant pen clicking.

"Hello, George!" She squealed, grinning widely as she batted her eyelashes at him.

"H-hi Francie..." he stuttered, nervously gripping my hand tighter as she moved closer to him.

"You look cute as a button, but then again you always did!" She winked, reaching up to pat his cheek.

"What are you hanging out with the likes of her for? Don't tell me you're dating her? George, you could do so much better!"

I looked up at George for a split second, the nervousness slowly dissolving from his features as he clenched his jaw.

"Fer yer information-"

"Francie! I'm not paying you to fraternize with the customers, get your ass in gear and do some actual work!" A man, I'm assuming her boss shouted peering out from around a corner.

She nodded, smacking her gum around in her mouth louder if that was even possible.

"Ugh, management is such a pain in the ass." She stated, rolling her eyes as she grabbed a normal menu.

She smirked evilly as she cast her gaze over to me. "Do you want a normal menu? Or should I just get you the kids menu that comes with crayons?"

"I um, which ever is easier for you to get is fine...." I spoke, my voice trembling barely above a whisper.

"So typical of you to not even try to defend yourself, grow a backbone for god sakes." She laughed before casting her gaze back up to George.

"Right this way, Honey." She flirted, winking at him as she flipped her hair over her shoulder and began strutting through the restaurant.

"Jackie, I don't like how she treats you. I know in the past you didn't want me to say anything to her but-"

"Georgie, please don't! She scares the living shit out of me." I whispered, as he raised his eyebrows and nodded.

"Here we are!" Francie motioned to the empty booth, George nodded helping me slid into one side before he slid in across from me.

"What do you want to drink, sugar bear?" She asked, twirling a piece of her blonde hair around her finger as she sat down in the booth next to George.

"Just water thank you..."

She giggled, nodding as she wrote down exactly what he said before glaring over at me.

"What about you?"

"Water is ok..."

"Would you like it in a sippy-cup?" She snarled, as I shook my head looking away from her.

"Too bad..." she turned on her heel, heading back towards the kitchen.

"Princess, at least let me say something..." George cooed softly, sliding out of his side of the booth and joining me on my side.

"George please...we'll probably never see her after this." I pleaded nervously, as he kissed my cheek.

"Alright, but 'm not making any promises." He whispered, wrapping an arm around my shoulders as Francie returned with our drinks, instantly scowling at the fact George had migrated over to my side of the booth.

"Do you know what you want to eat or do you need a few more minutes, Romeo?" She asked, reaching out and brushing her fingertips through George's hair.

This earned instant distaste from George, causing him to reach up and smack her hand away. She giggled, trailing her perfectly manicured nail down his cheek.

"Could you sod off?" He mumbled, narrowing his eyes at her.

"Oh, you don't mean that..."

He snorted, rolling his eyes as he continued scanning the menu. "What do you want, love?"

"I'll just have a basket of chips if that's ok..."

"If that's what you want, darling..." he winked, kissing my cheek before looking over at an irritated Francie.

"Two baskets of chips please..." he spoke quietly avoiding all eye contact with her as he handed her the menus.

"I'll get them right out! Fresh outta the fryer, baby." Francie drawled, bending down to whisper the last part in his ear.

"Thank you..." he replied, pulling away from her quickly, causing her to laugh and wink at him.

"You're so cute, George..." she giggled, placing a sloppy kiss on his cheek before walking off.

"Bitch..." I muttered tightly wadding up the edge of table cloth in my fist, watching as George attempted to wipe her bright red lipstick stain off his cheek.

"What was that, princess?" He asked raising a eyebrow at me.

"Nothing, here let me help you."

He nodded, watching as I took a paper napkin and dipped it into my water glass. I giggled, gently reaching up to wipe the annoying red stain off his cheek.

"You've got the softest touch..." he muttered closing his eyes, reaching up to hold my hand against his cheek.

"Georgie..." I giggled, butterflies erupting in my stomach as I glanced at his face, eyes close and smiling widely.

"Yes, Love?" He opened his gorgeous velvet brown eyes, which bored directly into mine, pulling my hand down to his lips.

"You're making my stomach feel fluttery again..."

He smirked, leaving one last kiss on my hand before opening his mouth to speak.

"Y'know you make me stomach do the same thing, especially when-"

"Here we are! Two orders of chips for the cutest boy I've ever seen." Francie cheered, setting down the baskets of salty, golden brown chips in front of George.

"Thanks..." he mumbled, sliding one of the baskets over in front of me with a wink.

"Can I get you anything else? Refill on your water? Mustard? A night filled with-"

"Look, 'm not really interested in what you 'ave to offer me...'m quite content like I am right now." He informed her causing her to nod and giggle before bending down and whispering something in his ear.

He blushed, nervously jerking his head away from her and scooting over closer to me.

"Like I said, let me know..." she winked, heading back to the front of the restaurant to seat a family that just came in.

I watched in awe, as she sashayed her petite figure across the room, her blonde hair bouncing with every step she took. I grimaced, feeling a bit jealous at her interactions with George. She was much prettier than I was and if she wanted George she could most certainly have him.

I scowled looking down into the basket of chips in front of me, only looking up when I felt George place his hand on my knee.

"What's wrong, darling?" He asked, lightly squeezing my leg as he shoved another salty chip into his mouth.

"Nothing..." I lied, smiling slightly when he narrowed his eyes at me.

"Y'know you shouldn't lie...especially not to me, tell me what's wrong." He whispered, patting my leg as he leaned his forehead against mine causing me to blush furiously, my breath catching in my throat.

"S-she's so perfect, I can't even begin to compete with her."

His eyebrows knit together, as his eyes scanned mine rapidly. "What's this nonsense yer talking?"

"Francie, she's absolutely gorgeous and I can't compete with her. She's never liked me and I don't understand why...I've never done anything to her." I complained, as George narrowed his eyes at me, his forehead still pressed against mine.

"I can tell you exactly why she doesn't like you..." he muttered, placing a gentle kiss on my nose making me shudder violently.

"You know why she doesn't?"

He grinned, nodding scooting closer towards me, forcing me to scoot backwards until my back was pressed against the wall.

"Jealousy, she's jealous of you, love. Yer easily more gorgeous than she could ever dream of being, and you're so sweet." He muttered, his breath ghosting across my face as his eyes wandered down to my lips.

"Y-you're just saying that because you're my friend." I stammered, biting my lip nervously feeling my cheeks turn crimson.

"Jacqueline!" He exclaimed a bit loudly, causing people surrounding us to shoot us odd looks.

"'Ave I ever lied to you? In all our years of friendship, when 'ave I ever lied to you?" He asked, pulling away from me slightly bringing his gaze back up to my eyes.

I sat there mesmerized by the beautiful brown orbs that looked at me for a second before opening my mouth to speak,

"You told me Neil in third grade didn't like me back, and also that you didn't have any cute band mates!"

He shook his head, chuckling lightly as he licked his lips, "Yer never going to let the Neil thing go are you?"

"Maybe I will if you play your cards right..." I winked as he scooted back towards me.

"And believe me when I tell you yer absolutely gorgeous...and 'm not the only one who thinks that. So, perk up and eat yer chips before I dive into 'em." He whispered, causing me to giggle shyly as he smiled down at me, gently planting kisses from my temple to my jaw.

He laughed, picking up one of the salty, golden brown chips and forcing it into my mouth.

"I expect you to eat this whole basket!" He joked, giving my hand a small squeeze.  I laughed, blushing as he watched me eat.

"Did you pick out a movie?"

"Psycho!" He exclaimed, grinning as Francie brought him the check and he paid her before she winked.

"Come back soon, George!" She waved as he gripped my hand tugging me out the door.

"Georgie! I asked you not to pick a scary one..." I pouted, blinking as I exchanged glances with him.

"Come with me to this, and I'll take you out again tomorrow because lunch today didn't go exactly as I'd planned it."

"But George..." I started, only to have him flash me a grin that exposed his fangs.

"Deal?"

"Fine, but I get to pay for everything tomorrow!"

"Absolutely not! I told you earlier me girl isn't gonna pay fer stuff!" He huffed, throwing his arm loosely around my shoulders as he attempted to look intimidating.

"You're so sweet to me, George..." I giggled, wrapping an arm around his waist as we walked towards the theater.

"Only because I love you..." He grinned, kissing the top of my head.

1:13 p.m.

"Oh god, George I-" I bit down on my lip to silence myself, watching in horror as the woman in the movie was stabbed repeatedly in the shower.

"C'mere..." he whispered, laughing as he motioned for me to lean into his chest.

I obliged almost immediately, nearly pouncing on him, burying my face into his neck to avoid looking at the screen.

"Is that better?" He whispered, smirking against my ear as I nodded leaving my head down.

"George, I'm beginning to think you only pick these movies because you like to see me scared." I whispered, looking at his profile.

"Yer almost correct." He smirked, wrapping an arm around my waist.

I giggled, scooting closer to him and resting my head on his shoulder. I soon yawned, growing drowsy as I furiously blinked my eyes in an attempt to stay awake.

"Go ahead and take a nap my sweet, I'll wake you up when the movie ends..." He soothed, gently stroking my hair as he laid a tender kiss on my forehead.

"Promise?"

"Absolutely, my darling love..." He winked, as I nodded cuddling into him as I allowed myself to drift off into a peaceful sleep.

Just as he'd promised when the movie ended he gently woke me up and we walked out of the theater to his house to get his guitar, and then headed to practice.

"Georgie, where's practice at today?"

"Paul's house..."

I nodded, attempting to fix stray pieces of my hair in a nearby car window.

"What're you doin' love?" He paused, turning to watch me as I fixed my hair.

"If Paulie's there I've got to make sure I look nice!"

He scoffed, rolling his eyes as he tugged on my arm with his free hand. "You look beautiful..."

"But Paul might not-"

"Forget about 'im until we get there!" He whined, pulling me along closely beside him.

We walked in silence for the remainder of the way, George sighed deeply before knocking on the door and then reaching down to grab my hand.

I blushed, as he smiled over at me lightly squeezing my hand as the hinges on the door squealed.

"Well isn't this a pleasant surprise! If it isn't George and his lovely little girlfriend Jacqueline from America!" John squealed, mocking delight as he moved out of the doorway allowing us entrance into the house.

"Shut up, Lennon." George muttered, shooting John a glare as Paul came down the stairs.

"'Ello, gorgeous!" Paul greeted me, picking me up off the floor and spinning me around causing me to squeal and wrap my arms tightly around his neck.

He chuckled, kissing my lips gently before setting me back down onto the ground. "Mm, how was yer day so far?" He questioned, wrapping his arm around my waist tightly and guiding me to the sofa that sat in his living room, and was cluttered with instruments.

"Pretty good, George took me out for lunch and then we went to a movie."

Paul nodded, licking his lips before sitting down and pulling me onto his lap.

"I see, don't tell me you've got dinner plans fer tonight though because I intend to take you out." He smirked, moving his hand up to adjust the necklace he had given me that adorned my neck.

"Really?" I whispered, as he nodded flashing me a grin before George and John joined us in the living room.

"Jackie said she'd go out to dinner with me tonight..." Paul announced, shooting George a cheeky smile as he shuffled over to the chair across from Paul and I.

"Is that so?" John pressed, looking over at George who stared darkly at a beaming Paul.

"Mhm, didn't you?"

"Yeah..." I giggled, gasping as Paul slid his hand from my side down into my lap.

"Are you guys about ready?" George asked impatiently as he continued to glare over at Paul.

"Pete and Stu haven't arrived yet, they should be here soon." John spoke, as George nodded.

"Let me show you something upstairs fer a second?" Paul whispered patting my legs signaling me to stand up, as he followed close behind.

"Where are you going?" George grabbed my hand as we passed by him.

"Paulie wanted to show me something upstairs..."

He rolled his eyes, as John started cackling causing everyone to all look over in his direction.

"Watch out fer the trouser snake! I heard it runs rampant in Paulie's room." John shouted, as Paul shook his head and pulled me along behind him.

"He's about to slip yer little girly the hot beef injection, you better watch out Geo she'll be all over 'im after the deed 'as been done!" John guffawed quite loudly, as we could hear him clear in Paul's room.

"Well, now that we're up 'ere..." he blushed, seeming to lose all his charm for a second as he blushed furiously.

"Hey, Paulie what's wrong?" I cooed, moving towards him to snake my arms around his middle and rest my chin on his chest.

"Nothing, I just...nevermind." He stuttered shyly, as I reached up and touched the side of his face.

I nodded, as he wound his arms around me pulling me tightly against him.

"Good..." he murmured, leaning down and pressing a kiss to my lips. I hummed happily, allowing him to slide his hand up to cup the side of my face to deepen the kiss.

"Mm, I could never get tired of yer lips..." he mumbled, pulling away but leaving his forehead rested against mine.

"Really?"

"Completely honest..." he breathed, his breath fanning my face causing my cheeks to flush slightly.

"Paulie! The others are 'ere so haul yer ass down 'ere!" John shouted, causing us to both laugh, Paul shot me a wink and we both headed down the stairs hand in hand.

"We'll continue later?" He asked, wiggling his perfectly shaped eyebrows at me causing me to laugh.

"If you'd like..."

"Y'know I'd much rather continue right now." He paused, grasping my hips tightly, looking up at me from his place on the stair below me.

"But-"

"Paul, get yer quickie finished up and let's go!" John bellowed again, his statement making my cheeks grow hot.

"Shut yer ass!" Paul yelled back, lightly pecking my cheek before we continued down the stairs.

"Don't worry about 'im and what he says..." Paul soothed noticing my still flushed cheeks.

I nodded, following close behind him and sitting next to him on the sofa exchanging glances with George.

"What the hell?" He mouthed, glaring at me slightly as I shot him a confused look. John chuckled as he watched the actions between George and I, winking at me cheekily.

George shook his head, casting his dark gaze from me over to Paul where it remained for the rest of the practice.

5:05 p.m.

"Jackie, why don't you just stay 'ere with me for a little bit? and then we'll head out for dinner." Paul whispered, I nodded blushing as he lightly nipped my earlobe.

"Ready to go?" George asked, glaring over at Paul before softening his gaze and fixing it on me.

"Um, if it's alright Paul asked me to stick around here with him for a bit."

"Ok, I mean if-if that's what you want." He muttered sadly, opening his guitar case with his foot and laying his guitar in it.

"I'll see you later, right?" I asked as he snapped the latches down on his guitar case hurriedly.

"You still want me to sneak over?" He grinned slightly, his eyes making their way up to my face.

"Of course...I mean, only if you'd like too." I smiled, looking away from him momentarily as Paul snaked his arms around my waist and pulled me so that my back was flush against his chest.

"Are you going to be ready to go in a bit?"

"Yeah, as soon as you're ready." I smiled, as Paul placed a kiss on the corner of my mouth.

"It should only be a few minutes, love..." he winked, nodding at him I cast my gaze back over to a distraught George.

"Guess I'll just leave you two, to go about yer business then." He muttered, grabbing his guitar and heading for the door.

"Georgie, wait..." I grinned, lightly grabbing at his elbow causing him to turn around quickly.

"Did you change yer mind about going out with 'im?" He smiled hopefully, before I shook my head.

"No, I just wanted to say thank you for today..."

"Oh, of course! Do you want to go out and stuff again tomorrow? we can go to the park." He smiled hopefully, leaning against the wall next to the door.

"If you want to."

"Gear! I'll see you later tonight then alright?" He whispered, leaning in to kiss my cheek before Paul appeared in the hallway.

"Bye, George..." I blushed, watching him wink and head out the door.

"Are you ready, my darling?" Paul asked, walking up behind me and gently squeezing my sides.

"Most definitely...." I grinned, as he spun my around and gently kissed me before we headed out the door.
