Tradition

The day went by fast and it was almost halfway through the day. Thomas was about to leave despite wanting to stay he saw how tired Ash was and decided it was unfair to make her stay. She wouldn't mind staying, but he's the reason she didn't get much sleep in the first place and he could start to feel his exhaustion set in too.

When he had heard that TJ was in the hospital early this morning he didn't know what to do. Even though Alex said he was fine he was still not sure how accurate that information was. He was having a panic attack and needed to calm down since his breathing had gotten so bad to the point of him almost passing out from lack of oxygen.

He had gone into his sister's room and woke her up. She was really worried since he was so worked up and she didn't even know what about until about an hour later when she finally managed to calm him down. When she found out she could see why he was so worked up. She had stayed up with him and got his mind off of it until visiting hours started and they could head over there.

They were about to head out TJ was a little sad that Thomas was leaving, but he wanted him to go home and get some rest. Thomas had leaned over and given TJ kiss telling him to call him if he needed anything at all. He also reminded him that he wanted to talk to him more privately when he got out of the hospital. He hugged Alex, Levi, and Eren goodbye and as did Ash. They said their goodbyes and headed out of the room Thomas stopping in the doorway and looking back at TJ as he did. He gave him a smile before disappearing around the corner.

Levi had pulled out the clothes and handed them to everyone so they can go to the bathroom to change. When Eren and Alex got back from changing Levi pulled out a board game that he had slipped into the bag and held it up asking if anyone would like to pass the time.

"Sorry," Eren read the games name, laughing to himself. "I'm having deja vu," he said rolling his eyes.

"Tradition," Levi joked.

"Please," Eren said shaking his head, "let's not make any of this tradition," Eren laughed.

The kids looked at them confused. Levi caught them staring and let out a laugh. "One of the times Eren was hospitalized we play this game to pass the time," Levi smiled.

"Oh," Alex said understanding, "did you win?" She asked Eren giggling as she did at his annoyed stare directed at Levi's 'tradition' comment.

Eren looked back to Alex and softened his stare, "Actually," he thought, "I don't remember who won," Eren said with a shrug, "but I do remember what colors everyone was," Eren smiled before snapping out of the memory.

"Well," Alex started looking between Eren, Levi, and TJ, "you wanna play?" She asked with a smile. Anything was better than sitting and staring at a wall for another couple hours.

"Yeah okay," Eren said complacently as he sat down in a chair next to TJ. Levi smiled and did the same.

TJ sat up in the bed and pulled the table over so they could put the game board on it. Alex sat on the bed across from TJ and crossed her legs.

Levi opened the box and set up the game bored asking everyone what colors they want to be. After everyone got their colors they started to play.

As they were playing. The doctor walked by the room that was now filled with a bit of laughter. She listened in and heard them joke around and play a little board game. She smiled thinking to herself, 'those two might not be their parents, but I've never seen two people better fit for the job.' She listened a little while longer smiling to herself before deciding she would check back in later she didn't want to interrupt their game.

They played three games. The first one went by fast the second one was a decent sized game, but the last one seemed to have gone on forever.

They decided to take a break from playing. TJ had looked tired and they all thought it was a good idea for him to get some rest. His sister sat down in the chair next to him as he drifted off to sleep, she ended up letting out a yawn and leaning her head over and falling asleep in a weird position. Most of her body was curled up in the chair aside for her hair which laid on the bed.

As they sat there a sudden realization hit Eren. Eren leaned over to Levi. "We're in the hospital," Eren whispered to him.

"Yeah," Levi looked at him a little confused, "are you just figuring this out now?" Levi asked.

"No," Eren said rolling his eyes, "what I mean is we are at the same hospital as my dad," he said.

"Oh," Levi replied "If you want I can keep an eye on these two for awhile if you want to sneak away and see him," Levi smiled.

"I don't know," Eren mumbled. He really didn't want to leave the kids but then again they were asleep so if he was going to do it it should be now right?

"They'll be fine," Levi said gesturing towards the kids.

"I know that it's just," Eren sighed, "I don't know I can't bring myself to leave them," he shrugged.

"Well," Levi said leaning back, "it's your choice," he said waiting for Eren to decided. He already knew what Eren was going to choose.

After a couple minutes of quiet hesitation and though Eren stood up. "Okay, I think I'm going to go," he said and he looked at the time, "I'll try to be back in about an hour," Eren said before walking to the doorway.

"It's okay to take more time if you want," Levi told him.

"I know," Eren shrugged, "but I'm still a little uncomfortable being in the same room as him. It's just weird, ya know?" Eren asked looking at Levi. "I mean I spent all of my childhood actively trying to get as far away from him as possible, but now I'm taking my time to actually visit the son of a bitch," Eren said before letting out a laugh. "It's actually quite comical when you think about it," Eren said before shaking his head. "Anyways," he sighed turning back towards the door, "I'll be back in a little bit," he said before walking forward.

"Eren," Levi called his name as Eren was about the turn into the hall. Eren stopped and looked back at him. "I love you," Levi told him.

"I love you too Levi," Eren smiled before walking off to his dad's room.

He stopped outside the door taking some deep breaths before finally walking into the room. He paused looking at the bed. "Well that's not right," Eren thought seeing the empty bed and quiet room. He confusingly walked back out of the room and paused for a minute before double checking the room number. He mentally face palmed seeing as he was one room off. "So much for learning how to read," Eren said sarcastically before moving one room down to his dad's actual room. He took another deep breath and walked in this time to the right room.

Grisha looked up at Eren and sat up not expecting him. "You're here," he said stupidly before making a face that said, well that was obvious. "I mean I didn't realize you would be back so soon," he smiled, "it's a pleasant surprise."

"Yeah," Eren said a little distracted.

"Is something wrong?" Grisha asked looking at Eren once more. His hair was unkempt, there were bags under his eyes, and his mind was somewhere else entirely.

"Huh," Eren asked snapping back to where he was, "oh, no. Well, I mean kinda," Eren sighed taking a deep breath and going to sit down in the chair he sat in last time.

"Well, what's bothering you?" He asked.

"The kids that are staying with us," Eren shrugged.

"What's wrong with them?" Grisha asked, "they driving you crazy?"

"I wish that's what it was," Eren shook his head. "Well, the reason I came back so soon was because I was already in the hospital all day today," Eren sighed.

Grisha sat up straight, "are they sick?" He asked a little worried.

"No. One of them tried to kill themselves," Eren mumbled.

"Oh," Grisha whispered, "are they okay?" he asked.

"Yeah, they're both fine now," Eren shrugged, "they're resting," he said. "He regrets what he did, but it's still pretty scary to think I could have lost him," Eren mumbled more talking to himself before snapping back.

"Yeah," Grisha nodded, "that sounds pretty terrifying," he agreed.

Eren talked with him for a little bit. Grisha had asked why he would want to kill himself and Eren explained what his mother did to him and the things she said.

"She sounds like a sociopath," Grisha said.

"That's what the kids are always calling her," Eren shrugged, "they refer to her as a deranged sociopath all the time," Eren said.

"Well, they would be correct," Grisha said, "from my understanding, she shows signs of being one. She sounds manipulative, narcissistic, emotionally detached, reckless, quick to anger, all of those are signs of a sociopath," Grisha said.

"I forgot you used to be a doctor," Eren mumbled to himself.

"That sounds like her," a voice said from the doorway.

Grisha looked up to see a young girl who had been standing in the doorway for who knows how long. Eren had stood up. "Alex, what are you doing here?" He asked, "I thought you were asleep," he said stumbling over his words. "How long were you standing there," he finally asked.

"Long enough to know you think pretty highly of me and TJ," she smiled, "also that you hate my mother as much as I do," she laughed.

Eren smiled, "Dad this is Alex," he said introducing the two, "Alex this is my father, Grisha Jaeger."

"Hello," she said sweetly, "sorry to intrude, Levi told me where you were and I didn't want to stay in the room while he talked to TJ," She shrugged.

"TJ's up?" he asked.

"Yeah, he had a nightmare and Levi's calming him down," she shrugged, "nothing too serious."

Eren could tell she was worried about him, but she knew when to pry and when to give him space so he trusted her judgment. "Well, dad do you mind if she stays in here too?" He asked.

"I don't mind one bit," Grisha smiled.

"Thank you," she said giving him a smile. Alex had put on a fake smile. She knew what this man did to Eren and she was going to hold her tongue to stop from saying all the nasty things she wanted to say to him fot Eren's sake. Eren seemed to be okay, but the second this fool stepped out of line she would put him in his place.
