Something's Wrong

Alex sat up jolting out of a nightmare. She tried taking a few deep breaths trying to calm herself down. After she got her breathing under control she looked to the side of her to see if she accidentally woke up her brother, but when she looked beside her she just saw an empty space in the bed. She could see it was still dark outside, but she checked the time anyway. "It's only 4 am," she said before looking back to the empty spot next to her. She was a little confused about where TJ could be.

She had this bad feeling set in her chest like she could feel something was wrong. She wasn't sure if the feeling had come from the nightmare or seeing the empty space next to her. She threw the blankets off of her shivering a little as the cold air hit her legs and she stood up making her way quietly out of the room. She opened the door and saw light underneath the bathroom door.

She let out a sigh of relief and lightly knocked on the door. "TJ, are you there?" She asked. She just needed to see him, after the nightmare she had she wanted to see him, he was always able to calm her down after a nightmare. She waited for a response but after a few moments when there was nothing but a dreading silence. She knocked again. "TJ?" She asked a little more concerned than before.

She tried the doorknob and when it turned she could felt as her heart pounded in her chest and the knot in her stomach grew bigger. "TJ," she said again, "I'm coming in," she warned before turning the knob and opening the door.

Eren and Levi awoke to a loud scream and they jumped up and scrambled out of the bed before flinging the door open and running down the hallway Alex who was frozen in the doorway of the bathroom. Eren and Levi ran up to where she stood and saw what she saw.

When Alex had opened the door she saw her brother laying on the floor in an unnatural position, and he looked unusually still. She saw the pills on the floor and she heard a screaming that she could only assume was coming from her.

Levi turned on his feet back to his room grabbing his phone and calling an ambulance. Eren quickly kneeled down next to TJ and checked his pulse and felt a ping of hope when he felt a heartbeat. He put his hand in front of TJ's nose and mouth and when he felt a bit of air hit his hand he took a breath. Levi reappeared and was on the phone telling them medics what happened and his status. "He's breathing," Eren told Levi who immediately repeated it.

The ambulance was there within a few minutes they ran up to the bathroom and checked on TJ. While they were getting him on the gurney they all quickly threw on their shoes. They started rushing TJ out of the house on the gurney and on the way out Levi quickly grabbed three jackets off the coat rack since he and Eren were shirtless and in sweats. The spare jacket was for Alex who was in short shorts and a tank top. Eren and Levi managed to slip on the jackets, but Alex had gotten in the ambulance before they could hand her the extra one so Levi held onto it. They all were able to ride in the ambulance with him which was a rare thing, but the EMT's let it slide since they all seemed pretty panicked.

The ambulance was quiet and Alex held TJ's hand sitting next to Eren who was also sitting in the back, Levi was told to ride up front in the passenger's seat since one EMT had to be back with the patient. Eren had his arms wrapped around Alex as she just stared at her brother in fear of what may happen.

They reached the hospital and TJ was rushed into the emergency room while they were left in the waiting room. Alex was frozen standing in the middle of the room staring at her hand that was previously holding her brothers'.

Eren walked up to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. She looked up at him as if she was in a daze before everything hit at once. This was real. This was really happening. Everything she had witnessed finally set in and tears stung at her eyes and she threw her arms around Eren as the tears started streaming down her face.

Eren wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly rubbing her back. He shot a look over to Levi with his eyes glazed over from a layer of tears that threatened to spill any minute. Levi walked over to them and hugged them both as a shaky breath escaped his lips.

"Is he going to die?" Alex asked looking up at Eren wanting a reassuring answer. She had asked a question that Eren didn't know the answer too and he just looked down at her. He made the mistake of looking into her eyes and that was it he could no longer hold back the tears. Her eyes were so worried, and her voice held actual pain.

"I don't know," Eren whispered as tears streamed down his cheeks.

Alex felt her knees give out and she fell to the floor her knees hitting the tile with a thud as her body shook from the tears. Eren and Levi kneeled down with her and wrapped their arms around her. They just sat there. They didn't know what else to do, there was nothing they could do but wait.

Levi's tears had been silent, Alex didn't even realize he was crying until she saw that the back of his hand was wet from where he was wiping at his eyes. Eren, she could tell was crying because every once in a while his breathing would hitch and his breaths would shake. She, on the other hand, had been sobbing hard and everyone could tell she was crying.

After about an hour of kneeling there with nothing but tears and worry coming from the three, they finally started to calm down a little. They had managed to stop crying. Levi because he was trying to be strong for the other two. Eren because he had taken a few breaths trying to control it so he could help Alex better. Alex, on the other hand, had stopped because she had run out of tears. She still felt the urge to cry, but when she tried nothing came out. She felt empty.

The room went silent aside from the murmur of the TV there to distract guests. After a little while, Levi had asked Alex for her phone. She didn't even care why he wanted it she handed it over without a word.

He opened it and looked through the few contacts she had and clicked on the number he was looking for. He stood up and walked away from the two for a moment. He leaned up against the wall for some support. "Is this Mr. Jackson?" Levi asked hearing the man's voice that was raspy from sleep.

"Yes?" Peter said sitting up in bed a little worried since a man was on his daughter's phone asking for him.

"TJ's at the hospital," he told him and Peter froze his voice vanished. Levi gave him the address to the hospital and gave him his number so that he could contact him for any more information and then hung up without another word.

Peter was left sitting there staring at his phone confused for a moment before the news sunk in and he jumped up throwing on some clothes and heading out the door.

Levi removed the phone from his ear and took a deep shaky breath to calm himself down before heading back into the room. He glanced at them before walking back over to them. Alex was leaning up against Eren's chest as Eren had got her to sit on the floor instead of kneeling on her knees that looked bruised from where they harshly hit the tile. She had her arms wrapped around her legs as she kept her knees tucked close to her chest. Eren refused to leave her side and kept his arms around her rubbing her back as he did. His legs were open and out to the sides as she sat in the middle.

Levi sat back down on the floor next to them and handed Alex back her phone. She held it for a minute before setting it on the floor next to her. Levi noticed she was shivering and handed her the jacket realizing he had forgotten to give it to her. She gratefully put it on. It was huge on her since it was one of Eren's, but she didn't seem to care. She put the phone in the jacket pocket and leaned back up against Eren and Levi sat behind her next to Eren.

She saw him sitting there and reached out a hand to him and Levi took her hand and held it giving it a little squeeze to let her know he's there for her.

They seemed to be waiting forever and their nerves stood on edge. They couldn't tell if how long it was taking for them to get any information was a good thing or a bad thing. They hoped it was good because no one came out to tell them that he had passed away, but nobody came to tell them that he was going to be okay.

Levi looked up as someone else entered the waiting room and saw it was Peter. He saw Alex and ran up to them. "What happened?" he asked frantically trying to get some news on his son's condition, or why he was there in the first place.

Levi gave Alex's hand a squeeze before letting it go letting her know he'd be right back. He gestured to the hallway a little bit away from the other two trying to not remind Alex of the horrible image she had witnessed. "Suicide attempt," Levi whispered. "He took some pills in the medicine cabinet," he explained.

"Why would he," Peter started to ask as his breathing shook.

"I think it has something to do with what happened between him and his mother today," Levi said before shaking his head, "but that's not important right now," he said looking up at him, "what's important is that we remain hopeful. No one has told us anything yet, but that means he's still alive," Levi told him.

"Okay," Peter nodded he took a bunch of deep breaths and sat down in a chair next to where they were sitting on the floor. Levi went back to where he was sitting and Alex reached her hand back out for Levi's. Levi noticed as she fiddled with something in her other hand. That's when he saw that she was holding TJ's phone.
