Returning to School
TJ and Alex had come down the stairs a little while later to get help on a few questions they had missed. Levi and Eren helped them finish their homework before they put it away and set their backpacks by the door so they wouldn't forget them in the morning. They all stayed up for a little while longer before deciding to head to bed still tired from the two long nights at the hospital and the unusual time they slept throughout the day.
"Are you sure you're ready to go back to school tomorrow?" Alex asked sitting on the bed. They had already gotten ready for bed they were just waiting to crawl into bed, but TJ could tell Alex had a few things to say before they did.
"Are you?" TJ asked making sure that she was okay with going back.
"I only needed a day to readjust, but I knew you needed more than that. I knew you needed time," she sighed. "I can see that you still need some time to think about some things, and it's okay to take more time you don't have to rush back into things to try and forget everything."
"I don't need more time I just need to get back into things because if I don't now- well if I don't now I never will," TJ said a little frustrated before plopping down on the floor pulling his knees up to his chest. He leaned his arms on them and propped his head up. "I know things will never go back to the way they were before, and quite frankly I don't want them too, but still our lives were flipped upside down. You know that I've never been a fan of change. I'm trying to get used to them, but I need a familiar environment to go to in order to help things along. I'm not ready to go back, but at this point, I think it's my only option to readjust," TJ said with a sigh.
Alex stood up and sat down on the floor next to him. "Well if there's anything I can do to help things along then let me know okay?" She said giving him a smile.
"I will," he nodded. "Are you going to tell me what's bugging you now?" TJ said calling her out.
"That obvious?" She asked.
"Extremely."
"Well," she sighed, "I've always been able to read you. Hell, I've been able to figure out what you were thinking before you had even figured it out half the time," she slouched over propping her head on her hands her elbows leaning on her knees that were crossed under her.
"Yeah?" TJ said unphase. He already knew all this. "So?"
"So," she said exaggerating it, "I wasn't able to read your emotions the other night, and I know that you said that you won't ever do that again, but I still can't help but worry. I mean how can I trust myself to know when something's wrong when I wasn't able to tell when it really mattered," She said letting out another frustrated sigh. "I just want to make sure you're okay, but I keep doubting myself now and I'm worried. I'm worried that, I'm not saying there will be, but if there was a next time... how would I know?" She said looking TJ in the eyes.
"You'll know before I'll know," TJ said, "there won't be a next time, but in this what if scenario, I trust that you would know. Even if you didn't I would talk to you before doing anything stupid," TJ nodded. "You can't beat yourself up about my stupid mistake," TJ said wrapping his arms around his sister. "You asked if there was anything you could do to help me readjust. Right?"
"Yeah?" She said looking up at him hoping there was something she could do, anything to make up for her mistake.
"Forgive yourself," he whispered holding her tight.
Alex hadn't expected that neither had she expected the tears that began streaming down her face.
"Do you really think that they will be okay going back to school?" Levi asked rolling over in the bed turning on his bedside light.
Eren was still wide awake and sat up when Levi turned on the light. "I'm sure they would tell us if they needed more time, after what just happened I think they need something familiar, something stable. In their case the only thing that hasn't changed in the last week has been school," Eren said thinking about it from their point of view.
"Yeah, I guess," Levi sighed. "I'm still worried," Levi mumbled. "I know what he said, but I still can't help but be cautious."
"I understand," he said scooting over. "We have to trust him," Eren said reassuring Levi, "if we don't then we might end up just pushing him away," Eren said remembering how much he hated how Mikasa used to get to close even after Eren had promised something. How she double checked everything he did. He felt humiliated, like a child always having to be watched. "He needs to know we care, but also that we aren't going to use that as an excuse to overstep his boundaries," Eren said grabbing Levi's hand.
"Okay," Levi nodded. "I'll trust your judgment on this," Levi said cuddling up next to Eren. Levi turned off his light and they went to bed.
In the morning Eren was the first one up. He got up and started getting ready for the day. After getting dressed he went downstairs and opened Levi's computer looking over the lesson plan so he would be able to help the students as best as he could.
"Not so easy just jumping back into it is it?" Levi asked wrapping his arms around Eren's back putting his head on his shoulder.
"Actually it's not that hard," Eren shrugged reading the last bit of the lesson plan before closing the computer. "Should we wake the kids?" Eren asked.
"They're already up," Levi said, "Well TJ's up. Alex, on the other hand, TJ still is trying to get her out of bed," Levi laughed.
"Those two are like night and day at times," Eren laughed. "One wakes up early, one would sleep for a day straight if given the chance. One is an introvert, and the other an extrovert," Eren laughed.
"One's a boy, and the other a girl," Alex added with a yawn coming down the stairs. "Aside from that I think we have a lot in common," Alex laughed, "Like me and TJ both like dudes," she laughed.
TJ's cheeks reddened as he laughed at her joke. "I mean it's not that girls aren't attractive they just aren't my cup of tea," he shrugged.
"Oh, girls can be really attractive," Alex chimed in in agreement, "I mean I'm straight, but hey there are some girls who I'd totally go gay for," she laughed.
"Really?" TJ asked kinda surprised.
"I guess you can say, I'm straight, but shit happens," She laughed. "I mean come on spaghetti is straight till things turn steamy, and I love me my spaghetti," She said.
"Actually I've once heard you identify as bi-curious," TJ said raising his eyebrow.
"It's possible," she nodded, "You can even say I am bi, but just have more of a preference for guys," she shrugged. "I mean it would make sense," she laughed, "the list of girls I would go gay for is quite higher than most peoples," she smiled.
"Well, alrighty then," Eren said with a smile as he tried not to laugh at some of the comments that were being said. Levi, on the other hand, had disappeared into the kitchen laughing so hard he had to leave the room.
They all sat down and had breakfast before grabbing their things and heading to the school. The car ride went by faster than expected and they pulled up to the school. They seemed to be some of the first people there, which was usual. There was only one other car already in the parking lot, Erwin's.
