Never Have I Ever
Right before class started Levi leaned over to Eren and told him that he was going to show off. "You have to translate." He said smugly.
Before Eren could decline Levi walked up and greeted the class in french. "Bonjour classe. Comment allez-vous tous?."
Levi's question was met with silent and confused stares. Levi smirked and looked back at Eren for him to translate.
"He used to be my french teacher and he is trying to show off at the moment," Eren explained to the bewildered kids. "He says good morning how are you," Eren said looking back at Levi as if to beg him to stop.
"Correct," Levi said turning back in front of the class. "So does anyone want to share how their first day of school went or how your nights were?" Levi asked looking around dropping the french. He had embarrassed Eren enough.
Someone had raised their hand not to answer Levi's question but to ask one of their own. "I actually have a question," the girl said looking down at the floor waiting for the approval from the intimidating teacher to proceed.
"Yes?" Levi asked already knowing the question.
"How many other languages do you know?" She asked twiddling her fingers.
"Well as of right now I know six different languages fluently," Levi said proudly.
The whole class froze and stared at him with awe. "What are they?" The girl said asking a follow-up question.
"Well, there's English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, American sign language, and Italian." Levi just listed off the several different languages he knew. "I'm still working on Russian and German." He shrugged.
"Mr. Jaeger over there knows 3 languages himself," Levi said pointing at Eren proudly knowing he had taught him all three languages. Whether it was teaching him more about the language he had already known or just the language in general.
"I wouldn't say I'm a fluent speaker in all three, though. I think the only one I can confidently say I am fluent in is English." Eren said awkwardly laughing off the classes stares. He never really liked being the center of attention.
"Which languages do you know?" Someone else had asked him.
"Oh, um, well I know English, French, and American sign language," Eren stated plainly.
"Where did you both learn all these languages and why did you learn so many?" Another kid had asked.
"Well, My mom decided to only speak french until I was around five and around five is when I started learning English while also still studying french. After that in school, I took Spanish. On the side, I taught myself Portuguese and Italian since they were kinda similar to Spanish. I taught myself sign language after meeting a student who was partially deaf my first year here. They had to move schools so they could learn better so to keep that from happening again I taught myself sign language so I would be able to teach better." Levi explained as simply as possible.
The class shifted their focus back to Eren for his explanation."I learned from Mr. Rivaille. I took French here and English here with him. Later I asked him to teach me sign language so I would be able to help deaf people." Eren said with a shrug.
The students looked star struck. Most of them had only known one language at most two. The thought never crossed their mind that they can learn so many different languages, fluently at that.
"Anyways, it's time to start class. Since it's still the first week of school I don't really feel like teaching just yet so how about we play a little game." Levi said in his usual monotone voice. "I want the class to get into a big circle." He instructed.
This request was met with some mental groans and some eye rolls. Once the class was in the circle they waited for further instruction.
Levi passed around the personal whiteboards to everyone along with a marker and a rag to erase with. "Everyone write your name in a corner and a 50 in the middle on your whiteboards," Levi said as him and Eren did the same, but they used their last names.
Eren remembered doing this a few times back when he was in Levi's class. Levi had free days occasionally and would use them either as a study hall or to get to know his students more.
"I'm sure most if not all of you have heard of the game never have I ever," Levi stated leaning up against his desk. "Someone will say something that they have never done and if you have done it then you will drop down a number. If you get to zero you are out. After you are out if you still want to play along you can go into the negatives. I have a few rules. No attacking people, no getting too personal. Also, lets at least try and keep it PG-13. No talk about drugs or sex that's all I ask." Levi said with a groan knowing that there will be at least one person who won't follow the rules.
"Alright, who wants to start," Eren asked looking around the group of teenagers.
After a minute of straight silence Alex volunteer. "I guess I can start." She smiled with a nervous hint to it. "Never have I ever..." she hesitated for a moment thinking of something she had never done. "Failed a test," She finished.
There was a hesitance in the room from everyone aside from the teachers. Eren and Levi shamelessly erased the 50 and wrote 49 in its place. Most of the class followed in their place but some of the students looked towards the teachers of an explanation.
When they noticed the blank stares at them Levi just shrugged and answered with one word. "Math," He said with a groan and a half smile. To which Eren nodded in agreement.
TJ was next to Alex and knew he had to go next. He felt everyone staring at him and his breathing got shallow. He was about to have an anxiety attack until Alex caught his hand calming him down. She gave his hand a comforting squeeze and her calming eyes met his stressed ones. 'Breath,' she mouthed to him. He took a deep breath and said the first thing that came to mind.
"Never have I ever been in a fight." He whispered looking down.
"Fist fight or verbal?" Eren asked before shrugging, "Never mind it doesn't matter he said as he wiped the number away and replaced it with a smaller one.
Levi proudly erased his with a smirk and wrote a 48 on his whiteboard. Alex was close behind him. A few other kids followed not as many kids as they would have thought, but of course, Thomas was one of them. The kids once again looked to their teachers for an explanation. Levi just shrugged it off, but Eren looked down fearing they weren't the best examples. The kids didn't really get an explanation to this question.
Levi was the next one who had to say a never have I ever and he laughed as he stated his. "Never have I ever lost a fight." He stated plainly watching as the students who previously stated they were in fights had hung their heads and went down yet another point. Alex stayed the same, but Eren had gone down a point, and so did Thomas.
Eren was next to ask a question he thought for a moment before plainly saying "never have I accidentally sent someone to the hospital." Eren said this looking Levi dead in the eyes challenging him.
"I thought I said no attacking people," Levi mumbled as he erased the number going smaller once more.
The class looked at Levi in shock until they watched as Alex erased her whiteboard as well. The class awaited an answer from the both of them. "Oops." Was all Alex had said before letting out a nervous laugh with a shrug.
"Shit happens," was Levi's response to the stares. "Next person," he said hoping to change the subject.
