More Excuses
"Levi?" Eren asked when he saw that Levi wasn't on the couch where he was previously and the TV was turned off.
"Right here," Levi said walking out of his office. "Everything okay?" He asked referring to the phone call.
"Yeah, just sounded like he was having a bad night," Eren said with a sad face.
"I see," Levi mumbled. "Lila called he said changing the subject.
"How is she," Eren asked looking up.
"Better than you'd think, but she may be putting up a front for Audrey," Levi said.
"Probably," Eren sighed. "What did she call about?" he asked.
"Just to tell us they are doing okay and checking in to see how everyone over here was," Levi said.
"That's sweet of her," Eren said.
"I think she just wanted someone to talk to," Levi said.
"Most likely," Eren nodded.
"Levi," Eren mumbled keeping his head lowered.
"Yeah?" Levi said straightening up and getting a little worried. "Is everything okay?" He asked when Eren didn't speak.
Eren had remained quiet for a few minutes before finally speaking. "I know I should be happy. I have amazing friends, I have an amazing job, I am about to get married to the man I love, but for some reason, I still feel..." Eren sighed not knowing what he was even feeling. "I don't have a reason, and I don't know what's wrong and I don't really know how I feel," Eren whispered closing his eyes.
Levi walked over to him and put a hand on his shoulder. "Hun," he said getting his attention. "That's what depression is at times," he said. "Sometimes it's feeling like shit and not knowing why " he sighed, "and that's okay because you will always get through this feeling," he said before grabbing his hand.
"I know," Eren said.
"Should we go to bed?" he asked.
"I'd like that," Eren mumbled.
Levi nodded and lead Eren to their bedroom. He lead him over to the bed and had Eren sit down. He went and he grabbed some extra blankets and pillows putting them on the bed. He had Eren lay down and he joined him throwing some blankets over them.
Eren snuggled up to Levi and buried his head in his chest. "Thank you," Eren whispered clinging to Levi.
Levi just laid there next to Eren running his fingers through his hair. "Anytime, Eren," he said placing a gentle kiss on his forehead. They just laid there in a calm silence just enjoying the company of the other person.
It's not that Eren felt sad, sad he could work with, at this point he would rather be sad than feel what he was feeling, which was nothing. He felt empty as if someone had punched a giant hole straight through his chest, except he felt no pain from it. He felt as if a weight was sitting on his chest, but he could still breath normally. The feeling of something being wrong but not knowing what that something is was worse than knowing. At least if you know what's wrong you can sometimes fix it, or at least explain it so that others can help, but with this, he couldn't. The longer these empty states lasted the worse it got especially if he didn't talk to anyone about them. Levi on the other hand always tried to make it better, and usually, just the effort alone made Eren feel a better a least a little.
Eventually, Levi suggested they just turn in for the night and Eren agreed. They got up to change their clothes into pajamas but then they returned to the bed. They both closed their eyes clearing their minds. After a little while, they drifted off to sleep and slept peacefully... for the most part.
TJ woke up to another hazy morning. He wanted nothing more than to just lay back down and forget about life, but he turned off his alarm and proceeded to get ready anyway. He quickly got ready and then ran down the stairs. He was going to wait for Thomas out front in case his mom woke up early again. When he had reached the bottom of the stairs his mom was right there already. 'She must be planning something to wake up early two days in a row,' TJ had thought as she looked at him.
"Are you grabbing breakfast?" She asked.
"Yes," He answered. He figured he had extra time so might as well. It looked like she hadn't been counting on that answer. She quietly moved out of his way watching him as he made his way to the kitchen.
He quickly poured a small bowl of cereal eating it as quickly as he could without making it obvious that he was rushing. When he finished he washed his bowl and spoon and put the dishes away. He got a text that said Thomas was outside and he headed for the door, but when he turned the corner his mom was standing there in front of it.
"Let me drive you," this wasn't just a suggestion more of a statement.
TJ knew he had to come up with something. "I have to meet up with a few different people today to walk with them," he said.
"I can pick all of them up," she said insisting that she take him.
'She's definitely planning something,' he couldn't help but think. "They won't all fit in the car. Our car sits 5 including the driver, I'm meeting up with six people," he lied.
His mom stayed quiet her normal glare worsening. She finally moved aside with an angry huff.
"Bye mom," he whispered opening the door.
"Get out of my sight," she growled, "you ungrateful child," she mumbled venomously turning away.
TJ took a deep breath and closed the door making his way to Thomas.
"You okay?" He asked looking at TJ's face.
TJ had looked like he had been slapped in the face, but there was no mark just the pain in his eyes.
"I'm fine," TJ said not looking up from the pavement as they started walking.
"Are you sure?" He asked sliding his hand into TJ's.
"Yeah," TJ said as he took another breath before looking up at Thomas and smiling, "I'm okay now," he said and they walked along fingers intertwined.
When Thomas thought they were far enough from the house he leaned in and gave TJ a kiss on the cheek. "I'm glad," he said and TJ smiled at him.
Whenever TJ was with Thomas he felt at peace he felt as all his worries slipped away and all he was left with was this calm serenity. He gave Thomas's hand a light squeeze and when Thomas went to look at him he leaned in and kissed him really quickly.
Thomas was a caught off guard but went with it anyway. He smiled and giggled against TJ's lips and TJ pulled away and giggled too. "You're so cute," Thomas said and they both continued walking to schools with bright new smiles on their face.
The person watching them from the car had anything but on their face.
"Don't get me wrong I love this job," Eren said yawning as he pulled up at the school, "but waking up early has never been my specialty," he mumbled wiping at his eyes once more.
"That's why I love the weekends," Levi said getting out of the car as they started walking towards the school building.
"What I wouldn't give to sleep in today," Eren said as they walked through the halls.
"Why don't you take a nap in my chair while I get the room ready," Levi suggested, "I'll wake you up before class starts," he told him as he handed him the keys to unlock the door.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Yup," he smiled, "and I'll make sure Hanji leaves you alone," he laughed knowing she would probably do something weird to him while Eren was sleeping.
"Alright," Eren smiled, "I guess I will, just make sure to wake me before the students come in."
"I will." They entered the room and Levi ushered Eren over to the chair and had him sit down. "Get some rest," he told him before getting the classroom ready.
Eren quickly dozed off and Levi looked up to see him sleeping peacefully. He smiled and continued with setting up the room for the day ahead of them.
Thomas and TJ had made it to the class and walked in. They saw Eren was asleep in the chair and Levi was sitting next to him in a different chair glaring at Hanji who sat on Levi's desk smiling a big smile while looking at Eren.
"Hello," Thomas said quietly announcing their presence.
"Sup," Hanji said turning to the two boys. "Look how cute Eren is when he sleeps," Hanji said pointing only to get whacked upside the head by Levi.
"Stop being creepy four eyes," he whispered in an annoyed tone.
"I can't help it he looks so cute," she said with a little squeal.
"I swear Hanji if you wake him up I will kick your face in, stop being so loud," He hissed.
TJ just let out a little giggle before taking a seat next to Thomas. They kept their voices down while they spoke so that Eren could sleep.
Levi looked at Eren he had bags under his eyes which was surprising since they had gone to bed early last night. 'His depression is really eating at him,' Levi thought. 'He must have woke up a few times last night.'
Alex finally arrived and she smiled when she saw Eren asleep. "Guess it's not just the students who get tired," she whispered to herself. 'He looks peaceful like that,' she thought before taking a seat next to her brother.
She turned to TJ and remembered what she wanted to talk to him about. "Hey did something happen between you and mom this morning?" She asked.
"Yeah, kinda, why?" He asked frowning wondering how she knew in the first place.
"She was being an even bigger bitch than normal," she huffed.
"Sorry," TJ said knowing that he had caused that. He didn't know how much longer his lies would keep working, but he knew no matter what he couldn't let her go through with her plan... whatever it may be.
"What happened?" She asked a little curious.
"She's been trying to insist that she drive me to school," TJ said.
"Okay," Alex said still thinking about his answer, "what's so bad about that, I mean I know she's a pain to be around but still?" She finally asked.
"She wants to take me, and my friends," he said being more clear.
"Oh," she said, "she must be up to something," Alex said quickly.
"That's why I keep saying no and lying to her," he admitted, "hence her being extra "bitchy" this morning."
"Yeah, do not let her get her way," Alex warned, "It won't end well."
"I know, I'm trying," TJ said desperately. He was running out of excuses to give her. If he kept using the same excuse she would eventually find a way around it.
"Knowing her she won't give up this easily, maybe tomorrow Thomas can have Ash take him straight to school and you can get a ride from her and tell her that Thomas is getting rides from Ash from now on," she suggested.
"She would see Thomas eventually," TJ added.
"You can tell her that Ash had to work that day then," Thomas chimed in giving a suggestion.
"Yeah maybe," he said thinking about it. "It wouldn't hurt to try," TJ said with a shrug.
Eventually class was about to start and the seats were almost completely filled with students. And Levi nudged Eren waking him up. When Eren woke up to see an almost full class he glared at Levi, "You were supposed to wake me up before the students came," he whispered a little embarrassed.
"I know, but you looked so peaceful, and you really needed sleep," he whispered back before watching the last few students trickle in.
"Alright class is starting quiet down," Levi said a few minutes later.
