Lunch Time
They made it back to their classroom just before the bell rang and the student's started to change classes.
The next two classes were a breeze, they all seemed to follow the same pattern as the first. The students would come in and would be told the expectations, a few students would be sent to Erwin to add their name to the seemingly never ending list on the whiteboard. None of them returned to Levi's class they all just stayed in the principal's office as they looked at the list of names that students before them had wrote. The rest of the class would take roll and then they would do introductions.
Eren had been watching the students closely but none of them stood out as much as the boy in the first class. Tate just had a sort of vibe to him, maybe it was because he was exactly like Eren when he was his age.
Lunch being a few minutes away Eren shifted his position in the chair being uncomfortable for sitting so long. His on the first day was to watch the students and listen to their introductions. His job is to help the teachers with whatever they needed and the students too.
He watched as each class Levi genuinely listened to every student speak and share out what they wanted to say. Eren had done so too but just stealing a glance at Levi he could tell that Levi cared a lot more about these "messy kids" then he would ever show.
The last two kids finished telling their share outs and Levi dismissed the class a minute early to lunch.
After all of the students left he made sure they all knew where they were supposed to pick up their lunches. The school wasn't all that big and the cafeteria only had room for a line of students to go through to pick of their food. No matter how many times they tried to solve the issue there just wasn't enough funds to remodel the cafeteria. The students adjusted really fast and ate either around the several picnic tables around the campus or in teachers rooms.
Most of the teachers left their doors open in order to let students know that it was okay to eat lunch in their rooms, the only time they closed the door was if there was a meeting going on or if the teachers had other business to take care of.
Levi used to close his door back when Eren came in his room to eat lunch and for tutoring. Doing so didn't really make a difference because at the time Eren was the only one brave enough to walk into Levi's room during lunch. Ever since Eren graduated not a single kid had eaten lunch in Levi's class, it was mostly him and Hanji the student were too afraid of him or just outright hated him.
So the shocked expression that came over his face a few minutes into lunch when two students walked in almost felt like he was dreaming. He struggled to hold back the smile that slipped onto his face.
TJ and Alex had poked their heads in the room. "Mr. Rivaille sir, would you mind if we ate in here with you two?" Alex had asked as her brother kept behind her with his head low.
"By all means, you're welcome to come in," Levi said with a nod of his head.
Alex nodded and gave him a smile, "Thank you, sir." They both sat down at a desk towards the back corner of the room and began unpacking their home-brought lunches.
Eren had gone to the back of the room and got his chair from behind his desk and bringing it up to Levi's desk. "So what's for lunch?" He asked sitting next to him.
"I don't really know Hanji told me she would be supplying lunch today," Levi said waiting for her with his ears covered. Eren was about to ask what he was doing but not a moment later his question was answered.
"Hey, guys!" The familiar screech echoed throughout the room making the kids on the back jump. Hanji entered the room with a bright smile and a familiar bag.
"I brought Scouts." She said happily raising the bag slightly. Her eyes darted over to the kids in the corner and she let out a little squeal. "There are actually people eating in your room, that hasn't happened since Eren went here." She chimed happily.
"Well if you keep screeching like a banshee they might decide to leave," Levi said rubbing his temples not expecting her to be that loud.
"Oops, my bad." She said with a cheeky smile rubbing her neck, I was a little excited to see you guys." She said before walking up to them and setting the food down and pulling up and extra chair.
"Thanks Hanji for the food," Eren said smiling when she handed him his plate.
"It was nothing, sorry I was a little late I had to drop off Erwin's food." She said before opening up her food and stuffing her mouth.
The kids in the back watched curiously as the strict teacher, the kind teacher, and the hyper teacher all sat and ate together like one big family.
Throughout lunch, Eren would glance over to the kids to check up on them and see if they were comfortable in the environment. One of the times he looked over he had noticed Alex playing with TJ's long black hair. She was braiding it. He watched as TJ didn't even bat an eyelash and let his younger sister do what she wanted. He even asked if she could put his hair in a bun after she finished with the braid to which she happily agreed to.
Eren hadn't realized how long the boy's hair was sooner because of his hood, but it went down a little past his shoulder blades.
Eren smiled remembering how he and his sister used to do stuff like that when they were children before their mother passed. He turned back to Levi who was staring at him.
"What?" Eren asked confused about what was happening, 'I must have been daydreaming.' He thought.
