Life is Good
"What did I do to deserve that?" Thomas asked with a smile as TJ pulled away from the kiss.
"For saying we are going to have a happy life," TJ said, "I was just proving your point," he smiled.
"Do you mind doing it again?" Thomas asked. Levi cleared his throat to remind them that they are still at school, but he let them do whatever as he went back to cleaning.
Eventually students started coming in and taking their seats. Class started, and the students seemed pleased to have their normal teachers back. The classes went by fast, and lunchtime came around quicker than usual. Levi and Eren took a seat behind Levi's desk as they waited for their little group to assemble. The first one to come in was Hanji who they could hear coming from down the hall. Not far behind her we're the three kids who plopped down in the chairs closest to the desk.
Hanji had sat on top of Levi's desk crossing her legs as she filled them in on everything they missed. Eren was listening as she spoke, but Levi had let his thoughts wander as he pretended to care about the newest drama.
When Hanji had finished TJ had noticed his boredom and spoke up, "How were your classes today?" He asked hoping to strike up a conversation.
It was obvious that the kids had gotten a lot more comfortable being around Levi and Eren, or just the adults in general. Instead of sitting in the back of the room they sat in the front, they didn't shy away instead they joined into the conversations. Even TJ who was the one who ended up shying away the most had actually started conversations with them now asking how their classes went.
For the first time in a while everything was going great, life wasn't perfect, but would it ever really be? It was all going good and everyone seemed to notice how things were different but in the best kind of way.
Erwin smiled before reeling his thoughts back in and stepping into the class after standing in the doorway listening to the happy voices coming from everyone in the room.
Erwin looked around the room and saw Thomas who didn't even seem fazed by prior events, rather he looked like he had dropped a huge weight he had been dragging around. Next his eyes drifted over to Alex and TJ who were laughing at Levi's story of how a kid in his class earlier was sent to Erwin's office after forgetting he had no shirt under his jacket and taking it off in the middle of class. They looked happy despite everything they had gone through throughout the past week.
He came in the room a little more. He looked at Hanji who gave him a smile waving at him noticing as he entered the room. He looked at Levi who instead of holding his normal bored serious expression was actually smiling and laughing, his normal defensive walls had been torn down at least for the minute. Lastly he looked to Eren who he could tell was doing so much better than he was before. The light in his eyes that had previously varnished burned brighter than ever before. His smile looked genuine and was contagious.
Erwin walked over to them with a smile and sat down. "He swore he just forgot to put one on," Erwin added to Levi's story.
"Yeah," Levi laughed, "But how the hell do you forget to put a shirt on before coming to school?" Levi asked.
"How did he remember to put the jacket on, but not the shirt?" Alex asked and they all paused thinking about her question before laughing at the accuracy of it.
Lunch ended and everyone went back to their jobs, or to their classes. The rest of the day flew by with everyone's good moods intact. When they got home the kids went to their room to work on their homework, and Eren and Levi stayed downstairs sitting on the couch.
Levi noticed Eren had his sketchbook in his lap as they watched one of their shows. That was normal, but what wasn't normal is that they had been sitting there for 10 minutes and Eren's page was still blank. He noticed that Eren was fiddling with the pencil in his hand as he seemed lost in thought. "What's wrong?" Levi asked picking up on the signs.
"Nothing," Eren mumbled before picking his head up and looking at Levi, "I just don't trust it," Eren said plainly.
"Your sketchbook?" Levi asked confused.
"Huh?" Eren asked before seeing the sketchbook still in his lap. "No no no," Eren said setting it on the coffee table in front of him. "Life is great," Eren said before following it with, "I don't trust it."
"Why?" Levi asked moving to face Eren.
"Whenever life is good something happens and changes it back to the normally scheduled shittiness," Eren mumbled.
"Eren," Levi said scooting closer to him, "don't think about stuff like that. Enjoy the happy times, don't dwell on the bad times. If you spend all of the happy times waiting for something bad to happen, then you end up with nothing but a negative attitude," Levi said speaking from experience. "Just enjoy what's happening now instead of worrying about something that might not even happen," Levi said placing a hand on Eren's cheek.
Eren smiled, "sorry, I guess I was being a little pessimistic," Eren shrugged.
"That's usually my job," Levi joked. "Anyways, why don't we make this moment even happier," Levi said leaning in and placing a kiss on Eren's lips.
"Ew," Alex said from the stairs as she came down to place her backpack by the door. TJ was right behind her with red cheeks too embarrassed to look at Eren and Levi.
"What she meant to say is sorry to interrupt," TJ said before turning on his heels to head back up the stairs.
"TJ come back," Levi called laughing, "that's not what I meant," Levi said mentally facepalming himself.
When TJ finally did come back down the stairs Levi had gone to the kitchen to go cook some food for dinner.
They all ate quietly thinking about how the day went today. Things seemed to be back to normal. Well as normal as it could be. Nevertheless, TJ finally felt the feeling come over him, as he looked at the new family in front of him, that everything is going to be okay. He could tell when he looked at Alex that she already had that feeling come over her, and that is why she was so happy despite what had happened. TJ let a little smile play onto his face. 'I'm going to be okay,' he thought to himself.
The weeks started to go by and like Levi had said, when they all focused on the positives the negatives had a harder time breaking into their lives. Everyone seemed to be happy and life was going great for everyone. Molbit had even come back to town and paid a visit. He met the kids, and they got along great, it helped that Molbit came bearing gifts after Eren and Levi told him about them.
Jean and Marco finally picked a date for their wedding. It was two months after Eren and Levi's and they had already started the planning. Eren was asked to be Jean's best man while Armin was asked to be Marco's. Armin was so excited and kept calling Eren to plan there wedding while also helping Eren plan his own at the same time.
Mikasa had dropped by a few times and Ere had eventually convinced her to go and see their father. It was awkward, but after he apologized all he talked about was Eren and the things he had been told and Mikasa could see that the man in front of her wasn't the same man from their childhood. She didn't go back, but she lost some of her hatred for the man. Grisha was just happy to see her, and he knew she wouldn't forgive him, but he didn't care he still was going to tell her how proud he was of both Mikasa and Eren. Eren had told him that Mikasa and Annie had got together and he congratulated her on finding love.
Annie had actually called Eren asking if they could meet and talk. When Eren met with her he found out that she was going to propose to Mikasa but she needed help with it. When she actually did propose of course Mikasa said yes.
Hanji and Erwin had been hanging out at Levi's more and more often helping them with the wedding plans as the wedding drew closer and closer.
Eren had visited his father more and more frequently and at first he kept his guard raised, but eventually he dropped it and when he did he noticed his father was more open. Eren would never forget what his father had done to him, but on his most recent visit he mustered up all of the strength he had and decided to do the hardest thing of all, and when he said those four words all the built-up hatred he had been harboring throughout the years had vanished. "Dad I forgive you," he had told him with a smile and tears.
His dad had hugged him as tight as he could, which wasn't very tight at all since his condition had severely worsened. "Thank you," his dad said with tears in his eyes. When Eren went to leave his dad looked him in the eyes, "I love you, son. Never forget that," he told him.
"I love you to dad," Eren had said back, and he meant it. He had witnessed his father change right in front of his eyes. This man wasn't the same one from his childhood, instead, he was more caring and loving.
Even Layla and Audrey were starting to readjust. Layla, though she still missed her husband had finally started to move on instead of holding onto her grief. Levi helped her through it as best as he could. Audrey, despite being young, fully understood what had happened and was able to move past it. She was very open about her emotions and if she got sad she would tell her mom flat out "I'm sad," and from there they would talk about the happy memories with her father. Layla would make sure that Audrey never forgot him.
Things were going great in all aspects of life and the wedding was closer than ever. Eren had almost started stressing about how close the wedding was. "Three days," he said excitedly hugging Levi as they were going over the last minute wedding details.
The kids were added into the wedding a few weeks back with Alex standing on Levi's side as a grooms woman and TJ on Eren's side as a groomsman. Thomas had been appointed ring bearer, and Audrey was made flower girl.
Things were perfect, that was until the phone started to ring and that call came through.
Author's note~ This book is finally coming to an end. There will be a couple more chapters (I don't have an exact number), but there will be a third book. However, this book will only be a couple of chapters long (no more than 20, if it even has that many, and this time I mean it XD). It will show what happens around 8 years after this book ends. It's my final farewell to this serious that I have dedicated close to four years of my life too. Also sorry about the major time skip, but I've had that since the beginning knowing that I would not be able to fill in three months there time worth of material. If I tried it would have been nothing but boring fillers. Anyways thank you all for reading and supporting the story, please tune in for the last couple of chapters. After this series I had planned to do another Ereri book, but I might also try out some other anime pairings. Sorry for the long author's note.
