Driving
Author's note~ Something was wrong with the song anyways I fixed it now~Lawliet TJ
Eren had proceeded forward before turning at the street in front of him. "I'm not an idiot," Eren mumbled to himself as he drove away. "I'm smarter than that." He repeated once more. "I made them a promise." He whispered to himself in a more serious tone.
He drove for a little while before stopping out front of the cemetery. He knew the gates would be closed, but his brain had insisted that he drove there anyways.
He sat outside the cemetery for a little while. All he thought about was his mom and the memories of her. He smiled and laughed at all their happy memories. He felt the sadness eat at him slightly, but he pushed it away with a smile. "I love you, mom." He said before starting his car and hooking up his iPod for background noise.
Press Play (don't worry about me)
He looked through his music for a moment before realizing he didn't care what song came on. He shrugged and pressed shuffle and felt tears prick at his eyes when the song came on, but he fought back the tears driving away. He couldn't help but feel the song speak to him in more ways than one. He drove around aimlessly as the song played in the background.
He hadn't realized that he was crying until he went to wipe away the blurriness in his vision. He hadn't really gotten a chance to visit his mom because of how busy he had been the week before. Any time he visited his mom he had always told her what had been going on, he would talk to her as if she was next to him, but even though she wasn't Eren knew she would still be listening.
After the tears started they didn't stop. Eren had to pull over so he wouldn't crash his car from crying so much. He didn't know why he was crying at first. He tried to think of what he was feeling at the moment to see what was bothering him, was he angry, was he sad? No. He didn't feel either. He didn't feel anything. He felt empty. There was nothing, no emotion, no thoughts, just a black hole where his heart should have been. It hurt.
"Depression," Eren mumbled out realizing what was causing his tears. "It's a bitch." He said with a sigh before turning on his car. He didn't plan out where he was going, but his subconscious knew exactly where to take him.
He drove for a while before reaching his destination. "How did I end up here," Eren thought looking at the familiar house. He shrugged and turned off his car. Taking another look at the house he noticed the lights were on, was she still awake? He got out and approached the house with his head lowered from shame.
He went to knock on the door but it flew open before he got the chance.
"EREN!" she said frantic before throwing her arms around him.
"Hey, Hanji." He said a little shocked but keeping his hair in his eyes to hide the obvious tears.
She pushed him away for a moment, "I'm so glad you're safe. You had us worried to death. Why the hell did you leave the house at two in the morning, without your phone for that matter! What the hell were you thinking!" Hanji yelled almost scolding him before noticing the tears. Her face softened and she hugged him again. "Eren?" She asked in a concerned voice.
"Sorry," Eren said with a shaky voice. "I didn't mean to make you worry." He said wiping his eyes.
"Come in Eren, let's talk in the house it's cold out here." She said gently leading him in.
Eren noticed she was in a jacket in shoes, 'was she going out to look for me?'
"I should call Levi and tell him you're safe." She said reaching for her phone.
"Don't," Eren begged which made Hanji turn around and stop what she was doing. "If you call him then he'll come over here. I just want to talk with you alone, I promise I'll head back home afterward." He said honestly.
"Okay," Hanji said with a nod. She took his hand and lead him to the living room where they had sat a few hours before. "Alright kiddo, what's wrong?"
"That's the thing, I don't know," Eren said looking at her as more tears streamed down his face. "I don't feel anything, and it hurts." Eren squeezing his eyes closed to try and stop the tears.
"Honey," Hanji said cupping his face gently. "Look at me." She pleaded.
Eren opened his eyes and looked into hers.
"It's okay to not know, it just means you've been holding your emotions back for too long.
Eren nodded knowing that she was right, god knows how long Eren has been trying to hold back his depression. It was all finally surfacing from years of pushing it away and bottling it up, he had thought he had beaten it, in reality, he ignored it and it grew, festering into something he could no longer handle.
'I did this to myself,' Eren thought.
"It's okay, though, It's good to let it out it helps," Hanji said before pulling Eren into a hug.
He just cried into her shoulder as she held onto him like his mother used to. He felt as peace slowly but surely came over him. He focused on anything other than his thoughts. Her calm breathing as she rubbed his back. The sound of her phone vibrating on the table in the other room. The clock ticking. The dogs scratching at the bedroom door wanting to come out and say hi to Eren. Doing so had calmed him down so that when he wiped away the tears they were gone for good.
Hanji placed a gentle kiss on Eren's head before bringing his head up to look at her. "Feel better?" She asked caressing his cheek riding the last tears that Eren had missed.
Eren nodded and gave her a worn out smile. "Thank you." He said hugging her close.
"Anytime kiddo." She said ruffling his hair. "You know I'm always here." She said with a bright smile.
"I should probably head back home, Levi is probably flipping his shit," Eren said with a playful look of regret. "Oops." He mumbled.
"Yeah, he sounded as if he was losing it on the phone." She said with a shrug. She walked him out the house and back to his car. "Drive safe okay." She said with a serious look.
"I will, thanks, Hanji." He waited for her to get in the house before driving back to his own. He hurried slightly not wanting Levi to worry any longer. He just wanted to crawl back into bed and cuddle with the one he loved.
He had arrived at the house fairly quickly which was made easier by the lack of traffic.
He pulled into the driveway and shut off the car knowing when he walked through the doors he would have to do a little explaining. He sighed and walked up to the door and found that it was unlocked. He took a deep breath before twisting the knob knowing that Levi was probably just beyond the door waiting scared that Eren had done something reckless.
He opened the door and poked his head in to see Levi sitting on the couch with his phone in his hand.
