Awkwardness

Levi began walking up the stairs and Eren could hear the footsteps drawing closer as Levi turned the corner to head into the bedroom. "Eren?" Levi asked softly looking for the boy.

Eren had mastered how to cover up tears rather quickly and was able to do it in the three minutes that he had. He opened the door of the bathroom and greeted Levi with a fake smile. "Hey, how was your day?" He asked.

Eren remained in the doorway of the bathroom he couldn't get his legs to move no matter how much he begged them too, but they refused to listen almost as if they were fastened to the floor.

Levi, on the other hand, was just barely a few feet from the entryway of the bedroom.

"It was alright," Levi said with a shrug. "Hanji was worried for you and she says she hopes you feel better soon," Levi said delivering the message that she had said to him every five minutes. "So how are you feeling?" Levi asked seeing that there was still some bags under Eren's eyes, but they weren't as bad as when he saw him this morning.

"I'm doing much better, I guess I really just needed to sleep in for once," Eren gave a light chuckle with a shrug.

There was no denying it there was a sort of awkwardness to the atmosphere around them. Both parties had recognized it. Levi couldn't quite put his finger on what was so damn weird between them, but Eren had known what it was all along. Before Levi could ask about the awkwardness. Eren spoke up noticing that Levi was wearing gloves which were kinda odd.

"What's with the gloves Eren questioned stepping forward out of the bathroom doorway. He was finally able to get his legs to move, but they only managed to go a few steps before fixating to the floor once again.

"Oh," Levi looked down forgetting he was wearing them. He slipped them off and exposed the huge bruise that was on his hand from the previous night when he punched the wall. "I didn't want to scare the students," Levi laughed with a sheepish grin. "Hanji wasn't so easy to fool though she called me out on it instantly," Levi said rubbing the back of his neck.

The bruise had looked worse than it did the day prior. It was a darkish purple that had looked somewhat blackish. Around the edges it looked a gross shade of yellow and greenish blue it was swollen and his knuckles had scabs on them from where the skin and broken from the force of his punch.

Eren laughed, "sounds like something she'd do," he said. He couldn't take his eyes away from Levi's hand though. It looked as if it really was broken.

"Your hand," Eren asked again, "are you sure it's not broken?" Eren asked worried about him. It had looked like he was babying it as it was.

"I'll be fine," Levi said waving his good hand with a slight shake of his head.

'Why should I care,' Eren finally thought. Sure he really did still care about Levi and it was taking everything he had to fight walking over to him and insisting on him getting medical treatment. 'If he wants to be reckless that's his problem,' Eren thought as his eyes were still glued to his bruise, his subconscious betraying his thoughts.

The awkwardness in the atmosphere wasn't as prominent, but still lingered in the air like a rotten egg that had already been removed, but the smell still stuck around.

"Anyways, I'm kinda hungry," Levi said, "and I'm assuming you never ate anything?" Levi said with an accusing look.

"Guilty," Eren said raising his hands up by his face as if he was surrendering to a police officer.

Levi shook his head, "well, I kinda feel like Chinese food, how about you?" He asked looking at Eren hoping he would agree.

"Sounds good," Eren said complacently.

Chinese food and scouts were Levi's go to places when he was too lazy to cook. They had eaten there several times before. The first few times they ate food from the Chinese food place had been special since Levi had special fortunes made, but he only really did that at the beginning of their relationship. He had run out of things to put on the cookies since what he wanted to say would never fit. There is still one thing special about their fortunes, they have never been wrong before.

Eren loved reading their fortune because it's as if they were magical like they actually predicted the future. It seemed like a silly thing to think, but Eren swore this was not just a silly superstition. With the hundreds of times they ate there and each time they were correct it was too much to just be a coincidence.

They walked down stairs and Levi picked up the phone to call in for a delivery. Eren had left him to it and went to set up the table. He let out a shiver and realized that the air had kicked on. He thought of his jacket that he left on the bed for tonight when he left.

"Levi," Eren said trying not to interrupt him too much.

Levi looked up and nodded signaling for Eren to speak.

"I'll be right back, I'm going to go grab my jacket it's a little cold in here," Eren said.

Levi nodded and went back to the phone call finishing the order and waiting for the total.

Eren had ran up the stairs and made his way to the guest bedroom. He slowly opened the door and saw his jacket on the bed. He sighed and put it on pulling it over his head. He quietly exited the room and went to head back down stairs. He saw that Levi was off the phone now and at the counter looking through something which Eren could only assume was his wallet.

"I called in for a delivery," Levi said turning around hearing Eren walk back down the stairs. "I don't really want to drive to get it," Levi laughed with a shrug.

Eren shook his head, "you really are lazy today," Eren said with a light chuckle before going back to finish setting up the table.

Eren finished up with the table and plopped down on the couch. Levi plopped down next to him and leaned his head on Eren's shoulder.

Eren had to fight the urge to push him off. 'Why is he still acting like he cares,' Eren thought to himself before wrapping his arm around him. He just had to make it through tonight. He had to keep pretending, but he couldn't let himself get comfortable. If he got comfortable it would be all the more painful to leave it would make things harder.

He was waiting, waiting for Levi to break the news to him. Levi always seemed to break the bad news over food, whether he thought it lightened the blow, or made the issue seem not as bad as it is. Eren could never figure it out. He figured he probably chose the Chinese food so they could eat at home and avoid making a scene in public.

After a little while in his thoughts, Eren found himself saved by the bell. "Foods here," Eren said upon hearing the doorbell.

Levi got up and answered the door giving the delivery man the money and a tip.
