A Little into Lila's Past
Lila was the first one to speak, "Eren," She said trying to pull air out of her emptied lungs. She didn't know what to say or what she was going to do she stood there with her mouth slightly opened with no words coming out.
Eren just stood there staring at her. He didn't know what to say either and his voice had vanished entirely. His body moved and he hadn't even realized that he walked up to Lila until he wrapped his arms around her. He knew why he did it but he didn't even feel his feet move.
She looked surprised by the action. She didn't even realize she was shaking until Eren hugged her comforting her.
"We should probably change the subject," he whispered. "Too many bad memories, for both of us," he finally said.
She nodded and when she had calmed down he let go. They stood their silently processing the information they had just learned until Lila snapped out of her thoughts at the sound of someone calling her.
"Mom?" Audrey had said as she woke up in the unfamiliar place not remembering where she was at first. When she sat up she looked at Jean and remembered.
"You want me to go get her?" Levi asked.
"Levi!" She smiled realizing he was there. She jumped off the bed and ran over to give him a hug. "When did you get here?" She asked happily.
"A little while ago," he said with a smile which caused Jean's mouth to fall to the floor.
'Levi being nice? Levi good with kids?' "I must have hit my head harder than I thought," Jean mumbled.
"Yes, baby?" Lila asked coming back into the room.
"Oh, I was just wondering where you went," Audrey said.
"I was in the hall way talking with Eren," She said clearing her mind of their conversation to try and act like that horrid news didn't just come up.
"Aarons here too?" She asked with a smile.
"Right here," he said coming back in the room with a friendly smile.
She ran over and gave him a hug.
"What are you guys doing here?" She asked looking back and forth between her two new best friends.
"Well I left my phone in here when I was visiting Jean earlier, but when we walked in we got a wonderful surprise," Eren said with a kind smile as he knelt down to talk to the little girl.
"What was the surprise?" Audrey asked tilting her head to the side in confusion.
"Well running into you and your mother of course," Eren said patting her head as she giggled happily.
Lila smiled watching them and walked over and took a seat next to Levi who had just grabbed Eren's phone from the table he had left it on earlier. "He would lose his head if it wasn't attached to him," Levi laughed showing her the phone.
Lila smiled. "Oh, believe me, I know what that's like," Lila said looking at her daughter. "I hope she'll grow out of it," Lila laughed a little.
"I'm still praying that Eren will too," Levi laughed with her. When they looked up Eren was glaring at Levi and Audrey had her arms crossed and was tapping her foot looking at her mom.
Eren rolled his eyes and looked over at Jean who was talking with Marco and they were in their own little world. Eren thought they looked so in love whenever he saw them together, he just hoped they realized it too because whenever they are near each other there were just hearts radiating off of them. Anyone could see the love they held for each other with a single glance in their direction.
Audrey tapped Eren's arm causing him to look at her. "Yes?" He asked looking down.
"They look happy," she said with a smile, "like a picture taken from one of my fairy tale books," she said with a smiled noticing how they looked at each other.
"Yeah," Eren said with a smile, "they're gunna be together until the end," Eren said.
"Lila," Levi said changing the subject with a more serious tone. "I know things are going to be hard and I don't want you to have to go through anything alone. I want you to know we will help you through this okay?" Levi said with sincerity in his voice.
"Thank you," Lila smiled.
Levi struggled slightly with the cast but wrote down all of their names with their phone numbers next to them, including Jean's and Marco's. "Call any of us if you need to you don't have to struggle through this alone." He said again.
She gave him a smiled and a quick hug. "I will," she said with a small nod.
"Good," Levi said a little relieved she was doing better than he expected for someone who had just lost their husband.
Lila, on the other hand, was used to losing people. She grew up in a neighborhood where drive-bys were as common as a sunny day during summer. Not to mention people overdosing from drugs or killed execution style in an ally by a rival gang. Growing up she dealt with lose as much as a normal kid dealt with the common cold. Every few months she would hear that another one of her friends had kicked the bucket, another neighbor, another family member. She was used to the concept of death so by now it had been second nature to cry for a day and then move on the next. She hated it, all the death in her life all the blood she had witnessed, all for what? Strips of paper that are kept in wallets. Feuds that no one knows who started them or why. Or even people just in it for the hell of it.
She hated the blood shed, yet all of her childhood was spent secretly wishing that she would be the next one with a bullet in her skull while walking on the sidewalk just so she could get away from all the pain. If not her she wished it upon Deber, even her mother. She wished that one day someone would come to the door and say they're dead, you're free, but that day never came.
Did she regret wishing their deaths? At first yes. She's my mother she would tell herself. I'm supposed to love her. But then she realized, no, I don't. I don't owe her anything. Sure she brought me into this world, but that gives her no excuse for the things she's done. She had no right to treat me the way she did, and I don't have to sit by and take it I am allowed to defend myself. Even after this revelation she still found it hard to stop caring about her mom. She still loved her even though her mom didn't feel the same. The one time she stood up for herself is the day she finally left that place, but even now she often still wonders about her mom how she's doing where she's at, but she will never ever go looking for her.
"Anyways, I should be getting her home," Lila said looking at Audrey who started to yawn again, "she has school in the morning."
"Yeah, we are probably going to be heading home soon," Levi said, "We have school tomorrow too," he said and Lila gave him a funny look at first before realizing.
"Oh," she said, "you guys are teachers," she smiled thinking it made sense since they were so good with kids. "What grade do you teach?"
"Right now we are teaching freshmen, but so far I've taught every grade level in high school. Eren, on the other hand, this is his first year," Levi said pointing over to Eren who was still entertaining Audrey.
"Ah, I see," she said, "What school?" she asked.
"Titan high," Levi replied.
"Oh, I heard that high school is a good one, if in the years down the road you guys still work there I'll have to enroll Audrey," she smiled.
"We would be happy to have her," Levi said with a grin.
They said their goodbyes and Lila promised she would call saying she was going to need all the help she could get. Audrey ran around and hugged everyone saying her goodbyes a little sad to go, but her mom assured her she would see them again.
After Eren and Levi talked to Jean and Marco for a little while they left and began to head home.
