Chapter Seven

Meilin huffed. Rollan had still not returned from his walk after 3 hours, and she was getting a little worried. If the birdyboy did get back, she was sure he'd get her greatest punch. She looked out the window, frowning when she didn't see Rollan's familiar face. With a sigh, Meilin stood up and walked over to the kitchen, grabbing an apple when there was nothing else to eat. The Zhongese girl sat down on the bed, eating quietly. The silence was almost unsettling. She was almost waiting for one of Rollan's horrible puns. Meilin stood up, walking outside and peering down the streets. No sign of him. Meilin sat down again, picking up a book and reading. Part of her wanted to just get up and find him, but the other half remained patient. When she heard a knock on the door, she practically bounced up from her spot and put down the apple and book, opening the door. There Rollan stood, a boy with a blue sweater behind him. Meilin definitely didn't know him.
"What took you so long?" She asked.
"Meilin," Rollan inhaled a little, grabbing Meilin's shoulders. "You need to come with me. Right now. Like, right this moment."
"Why? Who's that?" Meilin pointed with her chin at the boy behind her boyfriend.
"That's Devin. Er, a friend of mine." Rollan responded.
Devin snorted. "Not exactly a friend."
"For the sake of the moment, let's say you are-"
"Rollan," Meilin sighed. "I'm not going with you. I don't know what's going to happen and I need some relaxing time."
Rollan bit his lip. "Meilin," he begged. "Remember that time when it was really hot in the house and you altered the temperature to cooler without using anything?"
"Yes."
"That's because we have powers."
"You're an idiot, Rollan."
"He's telling the truth," Devin suddenly stood up straight instead of leaning against the brick wall. "He has weather. You have air."
"Ridiculous. Where are your minds?" Meilin snapped.
"Reminding myself that girls are scary." Devin flinched.
Rollan sighed. "Please, Meilin? You're probably safer with us, too."
"He has a point." Devin shrugged.
Meilin crossed her arms and closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she huffed. "Fine."
Rollan grinned, grabbing her sleeve. "Letsa go." He said in an Italian accent.

Meilin stopped, staring at the group in front of her. One had a flame started on her hand. She was Niloan. One had blue jay wings. He was from Stetriol. There was also two more Euran kids.
"That's Dawson, water," Rollan pointed to all the kids as he introduced them. "That's Conor, nature, that's Abeke, fire, you already know Devin, and that's-"
"I can introduce myself." The Stetriol boy said quickly. "I'm Shane."
Meilin nodded, taking her eyes off of his wings, instead spotting Devin's. Mockingbird.
"Right. I'm Meilin. Apparently my power is air." She watched as Devin threw his sweater at a tree before nestling in beside Shane, cuddling up. Shane threw his arm around Devin's shoulders, hugging the Euran boy close. "You two seem touchy."
"They're gay." Dawson mumbled, his face in a book.
Meilin settled down beside Rollan, staring at the circle. "What do you guys really do?"
"Anything a normal human being would do. But our main source of entertainment is Devin and Shane." Conor responded, smiling warmly at Meilin. Meilin had to admit she thought of Conor like a friend already.
Devin rolled his eyes. "Seriously. I did 4 laps."
"Maybe 2." Dawson snickered.
"Fight me." Devin huffed.
"You two are stupid." Abeke laughed.
"Rude. I'm one of the smartest in this group." Dawson sniffed. "Appreciate me."
"I wouldn't do that in a million years-"
Dawson punched Devin on the shoulder before he could fully finish his sentence. Meilin put a hand over her mouth to stop her from laughing. "Brothers?"
"Yup. You'd think they weren't." Rollan replied, smirking.
Shane had to officially protect Devin from Dawson's slaps. "SUNNY BOY." Devin shrieked.
Meilin soon realized these weren't just kids brought together by powers. They were kids brought together because of a strong rope securing their friendship. She smiled a little bit, admiring them. She even looked at Devin and Shane, who seemed to be more than friends. Some were stupid, but some were smart too. Perhaps it wasn't so bad.
