Chapter 14
Chapter 14
He misses Clarke. And it's true that she is right inside the drop ship, but the girl inside is not the girl he remembers. He knows it's unfair of him to be frustrated, but he wants his old Clarke back.
He realizes early on that he has to take out the man--or is it a woman?--that was inside Clarke's head. He begins planning immediately, and one day, as they are eating breakfast together, Bellamy tells Clarke what he wants to do.
"I'm going to get your memories back, Griffin," he tells her.
Clarke grins, and there are tears in her eyes. Bellamy remembers his earlier words, and they come rushing back to him.
Don't cry, princess. I'm going to slay your demons for you.
"Is that even possible?" Clarke asks. "Didn't they take them to study?"
Bellamy shake his head. "Doesn't matter," he gruffly proclaims. "I'll get them back."
The smile on Clarke's face is worth every ache in his chest.
---
He wakes early the next morning, and dresses when the sun is still low in the sky. Bellamy slips out of his tent without a sound and goes to sit by the dying fire.
The sky is as dark as velvet, but rosy and golden threads slowly weave their way into what may as well be a tapestry. When the sun at last greets the day, Bellamy stands and walks to Miller's tent.
"It's time," he tells his friend. "Spread the word."
Miller nods solemnly, pulling his shirt on within two seconds. Quickly, he grabs his beanie, placing it haphazardly on his head and follows Bellamy out the tent.
Within thirty minutes, the whole camp stands in the center of the camp. Something flutters in Bellamy's chest then. Because it was supposed to be a volunteer mission.
Everyone volunteered.
All of a sudden, a strong, surprised voice comes from the drop ship. "Bellamy? What's going on?"
"What do you think, Griffin?" He responds, his throat tightening.
From here, Bellamy can see the tears in her eyes. "Don't leave me here alone," she says. "I'm coming with you."
Silence settles over the camp, and people step aside, letting Bellamy make his way to Clarke. When he's a few feet in front of her he stops. And then he shakes his head. "I can't allow that."
Clarke blinks the tears from her eyes. "That's your problem, isn't it? It doesn't matter if you let me or not. I'm coming."
Bellamy wants to scream at her. Doesn't she understand he's doing this for her? Doesn't she understand that all he wants is to protect her? And then he sighs, because really, Clarke is as stubborn as ever. "I'll get you a gun," he says at last.
He does, and somehow she knows how to hold it.
"Let's move out," Bellamy orders, keeping Clarke close by his side.
And this time, for the first time in a month, Clarke almost looks as though she is herself.
AN: So I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I know that it was a bit of a filler chapter, but it was necessary.
I feel like a bunch of my readers are ghost readers. I would love some feedback, constructive criticism, or suggestions.
As always, thanks for reading! :)
