Ugh. Popular People ~2~
Piper's POV
It's weird.
We were given an assignment on writing a short story based on an old memory for my English class, but...I don't know what to put.
No, I mean I literally don't know. I can't remember any old memories to use.
I mean, the only exciting thing that's happened to me since I moved to Chicago was during the summer when I tried to fly a kite and it got stuck in a tree, so I had to go all ninja and get it down. But I can't really base a story off of flying kites can I?
Well, unless you've got a super kick-butt kite flying memory, then go for it. I support you. But i'm stuck.
It's been three days since we were given the assignment and I still have no idea what to put. It's due Monday! How the heck am I going to find an exciting memory to base a story on?
I mean, everyone else is halfway done with their stories by now. One guy in my class is writing a short story based on the time he went to Washington DC and had to run from the police because they caught him drinking on the side of the street.
Wonder how the teacher is gonna react to that one.
Yeah, the kids here aren't the best. Like yesterday, my math teacher told me that I was the best student they'd had in years.
I am not that good of a student, so that statement concerns me.
I guess I could just make up some super cool backstory about my grandma actually turning out to be an axe murderer, but I don't really like lieing.
Unless it's about my father.
He's some big time actor for a lot of movies that almost everyone at this school has seen, and I prefer not to draw attention to myself in any way, so just announcing that Tristen McLean is my father? Not the best idea.
"Got a story yet, Piper?"
I looked up and almost died from the smell of too strong vanilla and mint perfume.
I coughed and waved my hand infront of my face.
"Jeez, keep wearing that much makeup and you'll have mosquitos all over you." I said.
"Eww!"
When I could actually breathe, I saw that standing in front of me was my worst nightmare.
Popular People.
Ugh. Someone please. Help me.
Brianna News, Taylor Kinley, Ryan Shurly, and Jessica Henderson, stood in front of me, all with matching smirks and twenty pounds of makeup plastered on their faces.
But the most plasticy one, was Ryan, who was the head of all popularity here at Wayford High.
I swear, she looks so fake, I can't help believing that she was a barbie doll in a past life.
They were all wearing matching black skater skirts, with their various colored t-shirts tucked into the skirt and brown leather boots on their feet.
Their blonde and brown hair was all straightened, and they each wore a pink bracelet, with light brown leather bags hanging from their shoulders.
Ryan leaned down to look over at my blank paper, and smirked.
"Does poor Piper not have anything interesting to write about?" She said with fake sympathy. "Awe, that's too bad. If you were me, you'd have a famous model for a mom to write about." She laughed deviously, and her friends followed.
Brianna pulled out lipgloss and applied a fresh coat to her lips, though I don't know why, her makeup looked fine to me.
"Well, atleast im not a living barbie. And yes, honey, you do look like plastic." I smiled sweetly.
Her face scrunched up and her cheeks became red with anger.
"Why you-"
The bell rang, and I stuffed my English book and paper into my worn jean bag, and walked out of the classroom before she could finish her sentence.
Saved by the bell, I thought, making my way towards my next class, Science.
I manuvered around the hundreds of kids piling through the hallway, trying to get to class on time.
I finally saw past the herd of people and walked straight into my Science class, taught by Mr. Daymen.
As usual, the classroom was empty, well except for two people.
A girl with long brown hair that was braided down her back and a tall boy with blonde hair and a small scar on his lip.
The boy's name is Jason, and the girl is Reyna.
They sat next to each other, talking and laughing, and I spotted them holding hands under the table.
I sighed.
I'd always kindof liked Jason, though i'm not sure why.
Yeah, he was cute and he seemed like a really nice guy, but something just drew me to him, like we shared some kind of history, but I couldn't recall ever meeting him before I came here.
Reyna definitly didn't like me that much, I could tell. I would sometimes catch her giving me looks whenever she caught me staring at Jason, but other than that, I don't really think she's a bad person.
I tried not to look at them as I walked past, making my way to the table in the back. I was the only one that sat there, so I immediatly spread my stuff out on the table, and pulled out last nights homework, a worksheet on Topography Vocabulary terms, and checked them over.
Not that I was the smartest person, but I liked to try sometimes.
I looked up briefly and saw that Jason was looking over at me. Reyna wasn't there, she must have left for something and- my eyes met his sky blue ones, and a shiver ran down my spine. I looked away reluctantly, and tried to focus on my homework.
Oh god.
"Uh, hello?"
I looked up to see Jason standing infront of my table, looking a little shy. I had to bite my lip to keep from smiling.
"Yeah?" I asked.
Help. Help me. If there is a god out there. Help!
"You're Piper, right?"
I nodded.
"Well, I don't understand one of the terms on the homework, can you help me before we check it?"
I blinked. "Um, yeah. Which term?"
He showed me, and I explained it to him.
"Okay, thanks." He smiled slightly and then walked back to his table, just as Reyna walked in, oblivious to the previous conversation.
Huh. Well, atleast I didn't have to say too many words.
I shrugged and put my pencil down.
The bell for class rang, and Mr. Daymen walked in, a big smile on his face.
"Good Morning! Homework out please! We're doing trivia!"
Half the class, including me, groaned.
Time to fail! Yaaaay! (Note the sarcasm.)
~After lunch~
I was still hungry since I dont eat much at lunch, the cafeteria food isn't too great, but I managed to get through math without passing out from lack of food.
When we got to go back to our lockers, I quickly grabbed the granola bar that I had forgotten to eat for breakfast, and downed it quickly.
Ahh. Much better.
After the rest of my classes, I grabbed my bookbag and swung it over my shoulder. I'd finished all of my homework ahead of time, so no books for me to carry home.
I was about to close my locker when suddenly, a burst of pain ran through my skull, and I grabbed my head.
Quick images flashed behind my eyes, and I saw a boy with curly hair, a cabin, and a giant turtle, and then the images stopped and was left there to wonder what had just happened to my brain.
I stood there, still holding my head even though the pain was gone, and tried to contemplate what had happened.
Okay so, I was just standing here when-
"Piper?" I heard a concerned voice ask next to me, and I looked up, afraid it would be Ryan and her gang, but it was only Jason.
"Jeez. Don't scare me like that." I said, calming my heartbeat.
He smiled. "Sorry, you just didn't look so good."
"Just a headache." I responded, pretending to fiddle through my math book.
"Oh, well, see ya then." He turned around and I watched him walk away.
Reyna appeared next to him as they turned the corner.
I sighed, and shut my locker.
This was going to be a long week.
