New Girl ~1~

Percy's POV:

Do you ever get that feeling like you've forgotten something important? Well I do, everyday. It's like the memories were just erased from my mind and now I don't have any access to them, like someone just took them out of my brain and locked them away in a safe with a very complicated combination that I can't unlock.

Maybe i'm just going insane, I don't know, but at night these faded memories always leave me wondering if i'm living the life I was meant to live.

Maybe that sounds stupid, but I don't care, it's the truth.

Also, if you are wondering, no, I'm pretty sure I don't have Amnesia. I asked my mom to take me to an office a month ago, and they confirmed that there was no sign of Amnesia or any head trauma that could have caused my forgetfulness.

My mom just says that it's my dreams mixing in with my personal life, but I don't think that's it.

Maybe I don't always get a full picture of a memory, but it's like I can feel that it happened.

By the way, my name is Percy Jackson. I'm seventeen years old and I live in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, ya know where all that cool... battle... stuff happened.

Yeah....

Anyway, today was monday, possibly the worst day in the history of days, and we got a new girl at the small little highschool here.

I only saw her once, in my English class, and she seemed nice enough, though something about her just...I don't know, I can't explain it.

This all probably sounds weird to you, so I'll talk about something else...like...the weather.

Well, today it is slightly cloudy with a chance of meatballs...okay, sorry I tried. I could never be a weatherman especially with my ADHD and Dyslexia. I'd probably be jumping up and down slightly while trying to read that little screen of words they give you, all while pointing blindly at various spaces on a green screen.

It would sound something like this...

"Tobays, i mean today's wither, i mean weather! Is um *squints eyes* slightly cuddly, no! Cloudy! With a 5 no 50% chance of wayne...wait! Crap, no! Rain! Uhh..."

Yup, I would be the best of the best in that department.

But seriously, I think something is seriously wrong with me. At night I have these nightmares of monsters and this horrible place where everything was red and it seemed to be living, there's also usually a person with me in these dreams...I think it's a girl, but I'm not sure.

I paced my bedroom, which was painted blue (my favorite color,) and thought.

Okay.

Why am I seeing these pictures in my head?

Why do I think they are forgotten memories?

If they are memories, why would I have forgotten them?

These three questions ran through my mind, over and over again, as if I repeated them, I would actually find an answer.

"Okay me. I know you gotta brain in there somewhere, so think."

I eventually stopped pacing when my brain was fried from thinking and also when my mom came upstairs, asking me why I was pacing and asking me to stop.

My mom is awesome, she's never yelled at me or gotten mad at me, even though I bet she wants to sometimes.

Later that night I was in a very deep and important conversation with myself in my room.

'But I don't like chocolate milk!' I thought.

'Okay, okay. But here me out. What if it was blue chocolate milk? Eh? Ehhh?'

'Hmm...maybe i'd like it a little better...wait! No! I'm not supposed to give in, ahh!'

'Mwahahahahahahaha!'

'I am evil.'

'Yes I am, thank you very much.'

'HOLY BLUE PANCAKES!'

'WHAT?'

'WHAT IF WE COULD BE BLUE?'

'You mean like a smurf?'

'YES.'

'OMG I"M A GENIUS!'

'LETS GO TAKE A BATH IN BLUE DYE AND BECOME A SMURF!'

'YAAAAY!!!!!'

'Wait.'

'Aww :( what?'

'How would we get a job if we were blue?? Imagine walking into an office in a tuxedo and then everyones just like HOLY CRAP WE CAN'T HIRE A SMURF!?'

'Hey! Don't be Smurf Racist. Not cool man.'

'Okay, okay...hey! A dolphin!'

'Where?'

'Over there! *sticks sign on back when turns around* Tee hee.'

'Crap you put a sign on my back again, didn't you?'

'Nooooooo...'

'I'll get you for this!'

'You can't because i'm you!'

'...I hate it when i'm smart.'

"Percy?" My mom knocked on the door and I shook myself out of my conversation with myself.

"Yeah?"

"You going to sleep? You have that big test tomorrow, don't you?" She asked, smiling.

"It's not that big of a test. And it's only in Math..."

My mom gave me a look and I sighed.

"Yeah, okay. I'll study a little then go to sleep."

"Thank you." She walked in and gave me a hug. "Well, i'm beat. Goodnight."

"Night." I said as she walked out, closing the door behind her.

I sighed again and grabbed my blue bookbag, fishing out my math book, and opening to the pages that had the information on them.

"Alright. We can do this, brain. Let's get studying."

.......The next morning

Bleep! Bleep! Bleep! Beep!

"UNICORN MONSTER PLEASE DON"T EAT ME!" I sat up fast, hugging my pillow for dear life.

I looked over, seeing it was only my alarm and groaned.

"Really? You had to go off, right when the Unicorn was about to bite my head off?" Jeez. Scare me half to death, why don't ya.

"Percy!" My mom called from the kitchen downstairs. "I'm made blue pancakes for breakfast! Hurry up before they get cold!"

"Ooh! Coming!" I jumped out of bed, changing into a random blue t-shirt and jeans, then walking down the stairs and into the kitchen.

My mom was sitting at the table, ready for the day.

"Morning Percy. Did you sleep good?"

I nodded.

"How about the studying? Think you're ready for today?"

Crap.

Was the first thought that popped into my mind. I remember staring at the math book for about five seconds then I jumped into bed and was out.

"Uh, yeah. Maybe." I mumbled, and my mom smiled slightly. I knew that she knows that I didn't study, but she doesn't say anything.

"So, um... is Paul coming back today?" I asked her, sliding into the chair that had a plate of five blue colored pancakes, butter, and syrup in front of it.

My mom nodded, swallowing the last bite of her own pancake. "I'm picking him up from the airport tonight. He should be here when you get home from school."

Paul was my step dad. He and my mom got married...I think a year or two ago? I can't remember exactly...it's fuzzy. But he's a pretty cool guy, I think. And my mom seems to really like him, so i'm happy.

"We got a new girl at school yesterday." I said, because I didn't know what else to talk about. I took a few huge bites of pancake.

My mom looked up. "Yeah? What's her name?"

I realized I didn't actually know it.

"Um, I can't remember. But she seems nice enough."

My mom nodded thoughtfully, though I could see something was bothering her.

"Does she have blonde hair?" She asked.

I blinked. "Yeah...how did you know that?"

She opened her mouth to say something, but just then I heard the bus pull into the bus stop and finished stuffing my mouth with pancakes, ran up stairs to grab my bag, ran back downstairs to put my shoes on, said goodbye to my mom, and then ran out the door.

I don't have to many friends as my high school (By the way, it's called Getty High School. So original, I know,) so I usually sat alone on the bus, and as I walked down the small aisle that was in between the brown leather seats, I saw the new girl, sitting crosslegged in the seat across from my usual one, her bookbag and jacket sprawled across the seat, a large book in her hand.

I tried not to smile as I got into my seat, sitting down and bringing out my IPod. I put in my earbuds and started listening to Green Day, while the bus bounces down the road from the potholes and cracks in the street.

Now I just have an image of a bus bouncing down the road like a frog...man am I strange.

When we finally got to the school, a small brick building with giant white lettering that read, Getty High School, I turned my IPod off and stuffed it into my bag.

I looked over and saw that the new girl was hurriedly putting on her navy blue jacket and swinging her jean bookbag over her shoulder.

Everyone piled out of the bus and made their way inside the school building, meeting up with their friends and laughing.

I made my way to my locker, which was near the Boys' Bathroom and a drinking fountain and was about to open my locker to get my stuff for first period, when I heard shouting and running behind me.

I turned around to see a large girl named Clarisse, pinning a much smaller blonde girl to the brick wall next to the water fountain.

Oh no. I thought.

It was the new girl, and it looked like Clarisse was about to pound her.

"You're dead meat." Clarisse growled, and the blonde girl's eyes narrowed slightly.

"I was just telling you the answer to the question." She said, a tone of anger in her voice.

Crap.

Rule number one about Clarisse:

Don't tell her she's wrong unless you want a dent in your forehead.

"And I'm telling you, that I don't care! Now shut up so I can punch your face in!" Clarisse yelled.

Students had already gathered up behind the water fountain, eagerly waiting for the pretty blonde girl to not look so pretty anymore.

The girls in the huddle were covering their eyes, and the boys were watching closely.

They were probably thinking:

Ooh! Cat fight!

I rolled my eyes and turned my attention back to the problem. Clarisse drew back her hand, about to punch the girl, when a thought suddenly raked across my mind.

I can't let Clarisse hurt her.

I felt a tug in my gut and suddenly the water fountain burst out water all over Clarisse, momentarily blinding her.

Without thinking, I ran up, grabbed the blonde girls wrist and sprinted out of there as fast as I could.

I finally stopped running when the blonde girl tugged on my wrist.

I turned around, only just now realizing the slight shock that had went through my arm when I'd touched her wrist.

"Sorry. It wasn't safe in there."

The girl shook her head.

"I know that but...all I did was show her what the right answer to a question was."

I liked the sound of her voice. It made me instantly calmer.

I looked at her face for the first time and saw that she had stormy gray eyes that seemed to be observing and calculating everything.

Her face was slightly tan, like she goes outside a lot in the summer, which makes since because she also looks pretty active and sporty.

Her blonde hair was bright and curly, and I noticed she was wearing little silver owl earrings.

She was wearing a white t-shirt with a navy blue jacket and jean shorts with white Vanns.

She seemed really smart, and for some reason I found that attractive.

"Yeah, Clarisse hates it when people correct her. What was the question, anyway?"

"A math question. But it was really long college question, so..." She suddenly looked self-conscious. "Everyone kind of thought it was weird that I got it right, but it wasn't even that hard."

"Really? I suck at math. Or anything school related really. But History is kind of cool." I said, and the girl nodded.

"I'm Percy, by the way. Percy Jackson." I lifted my hand for a shake, and she took it, shaking it once.

"I'm Annabeth. Thanks for helping me back there by the way."

I don't know what happened, but as soon as she said her name I felt a pull in my heart, like for some reason that name bothered me. Or like for some reason I knew who she was, but in reality I know nothing about her...

I clamped my eyes shut as the flood of pictures came.

They were too fast for me to actually make out a whole one, but I saw flashes of a cabin, a boat, and several people that I didn't know.

This had been happening so much recently that my mom, Sally Jackson, took me to a doctor who said I needed therapy.

I'd argued with my mom that I wasn't going insane and therefore didn't need therapy, but she still makes me go every Wednesday.

I'd told the therapist that I thought the pictures were old memories that I couldn't remember, but she said that unless I had Amnesia or something, it doesn't make sense that I would forget these things.

I felt someone touch my arm and opened my eyes.

Annabeth, (another pull on my heart,) had her hand reach out and was lightly touching my arm with her fingertips.

"Percy? Are you alright?" She had so much concern in her voice, that I think it even surprised her.

I looked into her gray eyes and said, "Do I know you?"

Then my eyes rolled back in my head, and I blacked out.
