Testing Dust

POV: Mike

After Tim and I had gotten back from looking at the Blackhawk crash we headed back to our lab with some stones I found, I realized that they appeared to have a powdered form and a solid form, I decided to make them into arrows while Tim made them into bullets, we grabbed some watermelons, dead pigs and bottle of water so we could shoot them to see what happens to the targets when shot with the arrows. We took the watermelons to stimulate the human skull, I used the red stone, when it hit the watermelon it burst into flames. “Hey Tim, Ya see that?” I asked. “What did you do?” he asked looking at the watermelon. “Member the weird stones we found near the crash site?” I asked, “Yea what about ‘em?” he asked, “Well,” I started, “I turned the red ones into arrows and I’m testin’ how they work, ‘ere’s a chance we can use them as weapons, albeit crude, but effective, look’s like the red ones create fire, seems right up yer ally, I’m ‘bout ta test the blues.” “OK,” Tim replied, “Try not to burn the place down.” As he said that he laughed. So I readied a blue arrow and prepared it for testing, when I shot the watermelon, I didn’t see any damage on the outside, so I moved on the the bottles of water. I fired the red arrow first, when it hit the bottle it made a loud pop. “What was that!?!?!” Tim asked, ducking and grabbing his pistol. “I shot a bottle a water with the red arrow, guarantee ya ‘sa fire rock.” I replied. “Bout to test the blue, still don’t know what it does.” “Well let me help so I don’t think we are being attacked.” He replied, giving me help working. I then used the blue and shot at the water bottle, and it froze. “Well, didn’t ‘spect that.” I said looking at the bottle, “Hey Tim, han’ me the watermelon that ain’t on fire.” When he handed me the watermelon I noticed that it was frozen solid. We then tested the arrows on the pigs, they basically worked as I expected them to, the blue froze the pig and the red cooked it.

“Hey tim,” I started, “Let’s head back to where we found the stones, I bet ya we can find more types.” “Ok, let’s get looking.” Tim replied. “Hey Tracy, call Dan I’ma tell ‘im somethin’.” “Michael, Daniel’s comms are off right now, I will leave him a message.” Tracy replied. “Ok fine, tell ‘im that I’ve discovered that the stones can be used as some form of weapon, I’ll see if I can make it inta ammo, I think was workin’ on that earlier, but Tim an’ I are headin’ out to look for different colors, maybe we can reverse make them, if there’s some way you can get info on it we’d enjoy the ‘elp” I said, sending the message to Dan. Tim and I took a Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche to the crash site, but our Comanche had stealth updates to keep it hidden when parked. Tim and I walked around for awhile until I got a phone call from Dan. “Hey Mike, I got your message, I’ve learned a few things about the stones, they are called dust, they can be mined, refined, and turned into energy and weapons, and it comes in multiple types, apparently the Schnee family is one of the largest dealers in dust on this planet. I have also learned that it is called Remnant.” Dan said. “Well that’s good ta know, Tim and I’ve found some more dust stones, I think there’s an old quarry round ‘ere somewhere.” I replied, “We’re gonna keep searchin’ then we’ll head back. Anything new happen other than getting information?” ‘Yea.” Dan replied in a sad manner. “I’ve been invited to learn at a high school, again. Upside is that it is a great way to get some information about the area.” “Well, good luck, keep yer GPA up.” I joked finding a quarry and keeping note of the coordinates, “Hey Tim, I found the quarry, also the stones are called Dust, and I was right, there ‘re more types than the two we’ve found. We can head back and test ‘em out to see what we can make with ‘em, maybe mix some types and make stuff that’s new.” As I said that I called for a small mining crew to start mining for dust, while Tim and left for the flagship and to work in the lab on the dust.

When we got back I took some dust, crushed it with a hammer, but the dust in ziplock bags and tried to mix them to make a new type, while Tim looked at the molecular level of the dust particles. As I mixed the fire, ice and purple, which I learned was gravity based, it crushed everything I shot kind of making tiny black holes that dissipated instantly, and when I shot the targets, nothing happened, so I grabbed a live pig and shot it on the deck of the flagship, when I shot the pig it started to move at an extreme speed but it could stop and turn on a dime, I saw the pig run to the edge of the flagship then it slowed down and tried to stop but it fell off and I grabbed it’s body and performed an autopsy, “Hey Tim, check this out.” I said, as he walked over, “I saw this li’ piggy run ‘cross the main deck in maybe 10 seconds, tell me, does the heart look like it was over used? Er rather beatin’ at a higher rate?” “No,” Tim replied, “what do you think happened?” “Well maybe the pig had time slow around it, I’ma test it on myself and see if it works, I know it is dangerous, but I’m stubborn, and ya know I won’t listen.” I replied with a twinkle in my eye “I’ll get the first aid kit.” Tim said as we walked onto the deck, I took the dust and threw it on the ground, when it hit, I didn’t feel different, so I looked at my watch and noticed that time had stopped I grabbed a bullet from my side and I threw it and I noticed that since it left my hand it moved at an extremely low speed, maybe 100 times slower, I then started to walk around and I was able to quickly traverse the deck. It then wore off as I returned to Tim, “Are you out of breath yet?” He asked “Nope!” I said, “it was time manipulation. This is awesome! I’m definitely keeping these in case of an emergency.”

“Well it looks like you need to get back to work.” I heard from behind me, “Hey Dan, ya need somethin’?” I asked, “Yes,” he replied, “I need some weapons made for me and my team.” “Who’s on yer team? I’ll need to know who they are so I can learn ‘er fighting styles.” “Well,” Dan started, “There’s me, Monty, Dom and Master Chief, the one thing I request is that the weapons are both ranged and can transform into a melee weapon.” “Alrighty then,” I replied while thinking, “I’ll see what I can do, I’m thinkin’ maybe makin’ everythin’ a sword er a knife, maybe gauntlets fer Dom.” “That will do.” Dan replied, “Contact me when the weapons are done or need testing.” as he left Tim and I returned and started working on the weapons, Tim wrote up the plans and I tested them, specifically the transforming feature. It was the hard part since transforming weapons were uncommon to us
