Pulling is just taking filters and stuff from off the internet, like taking images and adding them to your edits/graphics. It's a really slow process and it will take along time to master what images blend/mesh well together unless you have a good eye. 

It is very hard to find what you like if you decide to use pulling. Also depending where you found these images, you might need to cite your sources for copyright purposes. If you decide to make your edits by scratch, which involves an even more patient process. Which involves a lot of shading, editing, blending, filters, and others to achieve your goal. 

I think pulling is fun since I am a patient person, and I like to make my work look as efficient as possible. I do a little bit of pulling and carry the rest on from scratch. If you have a trained eye, things like this will come very easy to you. 

If you do decide to work from scratch, I do recommend getting to play around a bit with the app/apps you will use. Everything starts with the apps, defiantly. Just keep testing, and after a while your work will look amazing.
