CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE: TRYING TO FIX WHAT IS BROKEN

As Five walked towards your room. He had a feeling that you were hiding something. Something had been off with you and is not only because you just lost your daughter. No, there was something else. Surely it wasn't guilt for killing Harlan. The Commission and your mom had beaten the guilt and remorse for any of their work of out the assassin.

Letting out a sigh Five walked into your room before scanning the bookshelf and he smiled as he spotted your favorite book that you use to read in the apocalypse.

He grab it before he opened it and he smiled when he saw a picture of you, him and Sam and another picture of Kayla between the pages.

The sound of footsteps got him to look up to see you.

While looking at you he closed the book but the pictures fell out of the pages which caused him to bend down to pick them up.

"You kept them" he said "Of course" you approached him before taking the pictures and the book from him, put the book back on the shelf while putting the pictures in your inner pocket.

"So what is the deal with you and my dad?" he asked "Are you jealous?" you tilted your head "Unless I have a reason to. You know that, but that's not what I meant. What do you know about this thing called Project Oblivion?" he asked and you looked at him as he move a piece of his hair away from his face.

"Probably about as much as you do. What do you know about it?" you asked "Well, I'm not leaving this room until you tell me the truth about my dad's little suicide mission. I know you're part of it" he said "Did Pogo tell you that?" you asked "He did actually, right after I thought we were okay. I think it's fair you told me the truth, especially if you think our marriage is gonna be save" he said.

"I don't want to fight you but if that's what this conversation will become, so be it" you scoff "I know everything you know about Oblivion" you said "Well, I have a feeling that there is something you are not telling me. And I want to know what it is" he took a step closer to you "So please tell me" he said.

"What are you trying to get at?" you asked "My dad is a madman. He can't be trusted. He have probably got into your head, he is lying to you, manipulating with you, probably making you believe that is going to save us all, but the truth is that he is going to kill us all" he said "With what evidence? Why would I try to kill you, Five?" you asked "You work with him and Reginald can manipulative" he said "I've work for crazy people before, my mom was like Reginald, but that doesn't mean I'm on their side" you said "If you want to assign someone the bad guy, fine, but it shouldn't be your ex-wife, especially if you think our marriage is salvageable" you said.

"Ex-wife" that word hurt him "The divorce papers don't exit anymore. We are still carrying around the wedding rings. We have kissed, had sex, many times. So you're still my wife and I'm still your husband" he said "So you think I'm gonna fucked it up because I work with your dad? Five, that doesn't make any sense" you said.

"You're doing this dirty work. You know I'm beginning to think that I should've listen to my siblings, maybe you are the enemy" he said "How? I don't even know half of the plan. All I know is someone is going to die" you blurted out.

His eyes widened when you mention that someone was going to die.

"I didn't know that. Who's going to die?" he asked "I don't know. Does it really matter?" you asked "Yes" he nodded "I need to know if it one of my siblings, or if it is you" he said "What do you care if it is me?" you asked.

"Because you're my wife Y/n. I'm not going to let the end of everything ruin my chance to be a better man, to fix this, to try and win you back, get that life with you we wanted. I'm ready to fight for you, for us, for our love, are you?" he asked before he took another step closer to you.

"You can't trust my dad" he said.

"You're losing me" you turned around before walking toward the door but then Five blink over to you and grab your wrist.

"Don't leave" he said "Don't tell me what to you, you don't own me. No one does" you rip your arm free from his grip before leaving while Five let out a sigh. How could he fix your broken marriage. If you knew that Oblivion would work, why would you be hoping for everyone's demise, including your own?

No, you would never sacrifice the people you love.

But you would sacrifice yourself for the people you love.

Maybe it was best to let you go but letting you go feels like losing a part of him, the newfound love he had for himself when he first met you. But things are not the same as it used to be and the love he had for himself is now replaced with hurt and disappointment mixed with a tinge of hope, perhaps things could go back to how it was before.

Fuck, Five shook his head, trying to regain control over his body and start to think clearly. This was not who he was. He was not one to give up. He was the second most dangerous assassin the world has ever know. He have survived three apocalypses now, cheated both death and time. He was Five fucking Hargreeves. And the Hargreeves fight for what they love. And he love you, and you were worth fighting for. You were the kind of woman he swore didn't exist and that was why he couldn't let you go.

You are someone he always look up to make him happy everyday. And to see you smile, because your smile is enough to light up his world. In his eyes you're just so perfect. You're a beacon of strength and your resilience inspires him. Your kindness and compassion shine brightly making the world a better place. Your laughter is like music to his ears and your presence is a source of endless joy. He cherish every moment with you and he want to be by your side through all the ups and downs. You're the one who makes life more meaningful and beautiful. Leaving you is simple not an option, for you are the missing piece that completes the puzzle of his life.

Letting out another sigh Five follow you out to the hallway and over to another room.

"This use to be Kayla's room when she stayed here" you said and he let out a sigh as he looked around while silence took over.

"You said you didn't want to fight" you finally broke the silence "I didn't but you weren't going to tell me anything and you probably still won't. I want to know that everyone is going to be safe and no one will die, especially you" he said and you turned to look at him.

"If trapping the Kugelblitz works, we should all survive. I can't promise everyone will live if it doesn't work" you explain.

"I'm sorry for attacking you like that" he walked closer to you before grabbing your hand.

"Listen, I really want to fight for our marriage, I want us to start over, try again" he said.

It's funny 'cause I've always dreamed of me and you
Now here we are
Staring at the stars

"I just don't think I can go through all of that again" you said "As much as you think it was Y/n/n. Loving you wasn't one sided. Because I gave you every part of me and I loved you with everything I had" he said "But you left out the part of being present. You fell in love with this idea of who we could be, but you never have any love who we were and when you left, it didn't feel any different, because you were never there to begin with" you said "I'm sorry I couldn't keep my promise, Love" he looked down.

You just broke my heart
Even though you promised you'd never do that from the start
But I guess we can only make it so far

"I thought by leaving you would be best for us, but I was wrong okay. I was wrong. And I'm so sorry I never fought more for you. I'm so sorry for leaving you behind, I'm sorry for not being there for you, I'm sorry for causing you so much pain" he said.

'Cause time wasn't in our favor
This isn't goodbye, this is simply see you later

You smiled softly and look at the floor but Five raised your chin up "I was really serious about building that gorgeous house with a big yard. That house you talk about that day. I was really looking forward to it" he said "The house on the hill, where you could see the sea or the countryside?" you asked and he smiled "A big white house with blue shutters and room overlooking in the sea so you can write. The designer kitchen and the basement and piles of clothes in your closet. I'd be there waiting every time the world hurt you. A big old porch that can rap the entire house. Where we can drink tea or coffee and watch the sun go down. You could come back home and just smile" he said and you smiled over that he could still remember it even after all those years. It was something you told him back in the apocalypse.

"There is a person in everyone's life who can't be replace. And in my life, you're that person. I made mistakes but I'll try my best to win back your heart and turn things around because you deserve the world and I'm willing to give you more. I'm not afraid of anything because I know you're the person I want to be with whenever" he said.

"Five I don't know what to say" you said "You know, there was before you, and there was during you...for some reason I never thought there would be--an after you, but there it was, and I was in it, it felt like forever until I knew I had to fight for you some more. I knew I couldn't be in it forever, I knew I couldn't leave you" he said and you let out a sigh.

"I know I messed up, but missing you has been coming in waves, and Y/n today, I'm drowning" he said. 

Can't fall in love, when I found the one
How am I supposed to move on
When you're never really too far gone?

"Why did you signed those papers?" you asked "I thought you stop loving me" he said "I never stop loving you, I never fell out of love for you, but I couldn't take it anymore. I know that you blame me for Sam's death. You were never there for me after that. You left me in a black empty hole. I was in the deepest painful hole and when you left you took the last light and my rock with you. When you left, the least part of my happiness left too. So that's why I wanted a divorce. I was a mess and I didn't want to drag you down with me" you said.

The memories won't go away
I feel pain every time I hear your name
But I always think of you the same

"No" he shook his head lightly "You wouldn't have brought me down with you. And yeah we were both a mess after losing our kids" he put his finger on your chin before lifted your head so you were looking at him.

'Cause time wasn't in our favor

"I'm sorry about that. I really am. It is painful for me and broke me. I'm so sorry I didn't try enough" he said.

"I remove myself from your life because I think you would be happier without me, have a better future" you said "Don't you understand Y/n/n, as long as I had you. I had a future. As long as I had you I was happy" he said and you looked at him.

"Do you still hate me?" he asked "Something in me is overpowering my hate for you, and it's driving me really crazy" you said.

"You still love me?" he asked "It's too late now" you said "Is it?" he took a step closer to you.

"Five, one of the reason I fell in love with you was because you loved me when I couldn't even love myself. And even after everything I had said and done, you are still with me, you are still defending me, you still have my back, you still love me, why?" you asked "Because I do. And I can't help it, it is my love for you that is overpowering any other feelings" he smiled.

"Maybe we are just on different path" you said "You're wrong about us being on different path. We are not on different path. You're my path. And you're always going to be my path" you looked at him.

"I promise you, I'll be better and if I'm not, I want you to kill me yourself, because I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing I'd let you down a second time. I promise I will not hurt you again" he said before wrapping one of his fingers around yours.

"Ever since I laid eyes on you, I knew I couldn't hurt you. And you keep proving me out every single day. Everything I've done after was to protect you. I'm so sorry. Please give me a second chance, I promise I will never fucked this up again, I promise I will never hurt you or leave you. Just please give me a second chance to show you how much I regret what I have done, give me a chance to show you how much I love you, and how sorry I am"

"Please forgive me" he said "Okay" you said "Do you forgive me or what do you mean by 'okay'?" he asked "Okay as I'll think about it" you said "Real thinking or just waiting a bit for rejecting me?" he asked "Real thinking" you said "You know if you already know the answer then just say it" he said. You looked at him in silence.

"'Cause it seems like you already have the answer" he said "Maybe I already have an answer in mind, but I will think about it" you said "Is there at least a chance for a positive answer?" he asked and you nodded slightly in silence.

"Well, thank you for even thinking about it" he said with a smile.

"But maybe it might take time" you said "It's fine. I will wait forever if I had to" he said.

Five caught a glimpse of your smile flashing on your lips. You rested your head on his shoulder and wrapped your arms around his neck, saying nothing.

He place a gentle kiss on his wife's forehead before letting you go, he moved a stand out of your hair out of your face while a small smile appeared on his lips.

He then wrapped his arms around you before he started spinning around slowly like you and him use to do both back in the apocalypse and The Commission which caused you to smile as you just enjoy the moment.

You both have missed this. It took you both back to the moment you have just gotten married in the apocalypse, and you were doing this under the apocalypse sky, as the stars was shininng bright, it both made you get that deeply in love feeling.

Five want to grow old with you. He want to move to the ocean or countryside. He was planning on buying you a house like that you talk about, lying on a hill where you could see the ocean or close to the forest, he knew how much yu loved that. And he was gonna give you that dream house, even if he have to build it himself. He would support you through your career you choose. He would watch you sleep on slow morning and see you woke up in the middle of the night. Your lives was there now. And he only wished that you, as long as the rest of his family would accept it sooner.

Five would make sure that nothing would ever happen to you again. 

Because if there was one thing he would not do again it would be to lose so much of life. He was never going to lose you again.

You smiled as you felt Five's arm and love, after losing Kayla you thought you didn't had anyone anymore, but you did.

You had Five, your best friend, your other half to a completed self, your husband, the father of your dead kids, your savior, your rock, your happiness, your light . You was never on your own becauaes Five was always there. He was there one way or another. In photos, memories, family, footprints and forgotten dust that rubbed off of your old souls.

He was always there.

Five had always been a lone person. Depending on books, logic and reason to live. He had that for a while, but then you appeared and he was twisted and turned. Logic wasn't found. Reasons gone from his mine. Books became unbelievable.

How could Five Hargreeves ever be loved?

He was a pragmatic, semi-narcissistic, arrogant archer that show his arrow the moment he could even if it would come back to stab him.

He didn't understand when he was met with kindness from a complete stranger. He understood less when you would wrap your arms around him and tell him that you loved him. He couldn't find a line or glimmer of logic when it came to you listening to his ramblings and staring at him with your Y/e/c eyes like he was the entire world.

He didn't deserve that.

Did he?

How could he ever be loved in that manner?

But you were there. You stayed. Loyal to the end. Trust you would have his heels in your hands before he even attempted. And he wouldn't dare.

He loved you. He loves you.

He'd put his bow and arrow down the moment you appeared even if he would be taken out in the process. He'd taken any wound in order for you to come out alive. If it was him or you, it was you.

Every single time.

Five Hargreeves would never believe he deserved you and you would never believe you deserved him.

Never.

But he had you and you had him.

And if this was the end, you would hold each other until the last breath was exhaled.

Diego was sitting up on the second floor, looking at the paintings that was hanging on the wall when Lila walked over to him.

"Sorry about your robot mum" Lila said "She wasn't my real one" Diego said "Okay" she said before she sighed "Sorry I lied to you about Stanley. I miss him too, you know. I liked that little shit and his wonky ears" she said and he looked at her "He deserved better" he said "Yeah, he did" she said and he looked back at the paintings.

"Do you know why I brought him to you?" she asked "Because you're a sociopath?" he said "No. Because I'm a coward" she said and he looked at her "Dropping a kid in your lap and seeing if you're reject us and run felt safer than telling you the truth" she said "Which is?" he asked "I'm pregnant, Diego" she said.

There was a few second of silence before he got up and was about to walk away but she stopped him "Diego" she said, grabbing his arm and turned him around to look at her.

"I'm pregnant" she said again and his eyes widened as he look at her knowing that she was telling the truth.

"I'll pee on whatever stick you want later, but for now, please, can you just..." she said before they both sat down and he sighed.

"My mum put a bullet in my heart. Did you know that?" she asked "Yeah. Five told me. How did you know?" he asked "Infinite Switchboard. I missed your stupid face, so I snuck in to get a glimpse of you. And instead...Thing is, I'm not gonna be very good at this...mother thing. Apples and trees. But I saw you with Stan, and you're a good dad" she said "What do you want from me, Lila?" he asked "Okay. Truth? I think you should run from me" she said and chuckled "I, um...I think I'm a bloody mess. And I think that someone who's...who never had a family is in no position to ask for one. But that's what I want. With you" she said.

There was a few second silence before he spoke up "Can I think about it?" he asked and she chuckled "Yeah. Of course" she said and he sighed.

Ben, Chris and Fei was sitting in the living room in front of the fire place.

"I'm glad we made peace. It all worked out" Ben said as he poured some champagne in Fei's glass "Yeah" she said as she leaned back and Ben put the champagne bottle on the floor next to him.

"But we're definitely killing them in the morning, right?" Fei asked and Chris said something "And Chris has dibs on knife boy" Fei said.

"No one is killing anyone" Ben said "Why not?" Fei asked and Ben looked at her "We followed your plan, merged the families, saved the world. We don't need them anymore" Fei said "I'm not done yet" Ben said "Done what?" Fei asked "That's between me and Dad" Ben said before taking a sip of his champagne glass and Fei leaned forward in her chair "You made a deal with Dad?" she asked "Maybe" he said before he put his glass down on the floor.

"Fine. I'm done" Fei said as she got up "Sit down" Ben ordered "No. We don't recognize your authority anymore. You're a terrible leader with no loyalty to anyone but yourself" she said "You don't speak for Christopher" Ben said and Christopher said something causing Ben to get up "Really, dude?" he asked him and Fei let out a small laugh.

"I'm Number One. You'll do as I say when I say it" Ben said to her "Not anymore" Fei said before she looked at Chris "Here's to a new life without this dickhead" she said before she cheered her glass on Christopher and drank the glass empty.

But then the sound of energy fluctuating was heard and Chris started to shaking violently causing Fei and Ben to walk slowly closer to him.

"Christopher, what's wrong?" Fei asked but Christopher just kept shaking more as cracks appeared on him.

"Back away, Fei" Ben said "Chris, it's going to be okay" Fei said as she stepped closer to him while Ben took some step backwards "Fei!" he shouted "I'm going to help you. Just--" Fei said but then Christopher exploded and Fei let out a dying screams as The Kugelblitz pulled her in while Ben was knock to the floor.

Another shockwave pulsing was heard as the whole Academy started shaking before collapsing.

A minute earlier

You and Five was laying in a bed, his arm wrapped around you and you had your head on his chest while he was slowly and gently stroking his hand down your hair as your fingers was interwining.

Both of you laying peacefully, just enjoy each other's company.

"I have missed this" you said "Me too" he lay a kiss on the top of your head while you snuggled more into his embrace before closing your eyes.    

But suddenly there was an explosion sound coming from the living room which caused you and Five to quickly sit up before running out of the living room and down the stairs as the whole Academy was shaking violent and it was slowly collapsing.

"We have to get out of here" you said as Five spotted Ben laying unconscious on the floor in the living room while the Kugelblitz got bigger and bigger, closing in on him.

"Wait. Ben!" Five said before he looked and you "Get out of here. I will get Ben, just go" he said "I'm not leaving without you" you said "Yes you are. Just go" Five said and you nodded before running out of the Academy while Five blinked into the living room, grabbing Ben and he reach to blink away before they could get hit by the Kugelblitz.

The whole Academy was suck into the Kugelblitz together with other buildings next to it.
