Chapter 14
Meryl arrived at the company early, at 6:30 a.m. She went straight to the front desk to drop off a letter, explaining that she wouldn't be able to come to work that day.
After dropping off the letter, she headed out of the building. As she walked, she tried to put the argument she'd had with Cassie the night before out of her mind.
Cassie had suggested that Meryl ask Tyrson for help, since he was Michelle's father. But Meryl couldn't bring herself to do it. She just couldn't accept any help from him, no matter
"But there's no way I'll ask him for help," Meryl insisted stubbornly. Cassie stared back at her, her eyes blazing with frustration.
"He's her father, and he's loaded! You're struggling, and he's making millions," Cassie yelled, her voice rising in pitch. "How can you not see that he's the answer to all of your problems?"
Meryl could feel her blood beginning to boil. She knew that asking Tyrson for help was out of the question, but Cassie just didn't understand. There was no way she was going to tell him about Michelle.
"Are you out of your mind?" Meryl shot back, her voice rising. "My daughter is not a burden, and I don't appreciate you saying that."
"Of course that's not what I meant," Cassie said, her tone exasperated. "But I just don't understand why you won't tell him about Michelle. He has the means to help you, and he has a right to know about his child."
Meryl's anger bubbled over. "No, he does not have a right to know about my daughter," she snapped. "I made the decision to raise her on my.
"I know you're only trying to help," Meryl said, trying to keep her voice even. "But this isn't a game to me. I don't want anything to do with him, and I'm not going to let him into my daughter's life."
Cassie let out a sigh. "I know you're angry and upset, and I'm not trying to make this harder for you. But I think you're being unfair to both yourself and Michelle. She deserves to know her father, and you deserve to have the support you need."
Tears welled up in Meryl's eyes as she shook her head, trying to compose herself. "I never asked for your opinion on how to live my life," she said, her voice quivering. "I don't need anyone's help to take care of my child. I can do it on my own."
She knew she was being stubborn, but the thought of involving Tyrson in her life made her feel sick to her stomach. Walking away from Cassie, she tried to calm herself down, her heart racing.
Walking for a few minutes, Meryl came across a sign outside a coffee shop that said "Part-time help needed."
A small glimmer of hope fluttered in her chest. This could be the break she needed, the opportunity to get a little extra money to support herself and Michelle.
As she approached the door, she saw that the shop was packed with customers. A old woman was working frantically to keep up with the crowd. Maybe they really did need the help, Meryl thought. Taking a deep breath, she walked inside.

The memory of his argument with Meryl the night before played on a loop in Tyrson's mind as he drove to work. Even though he knew he could be late and no one would question him, he still didn't like the idea of being tardy. He was a hard worker, and he took pride in his job.
Still, he couldn't get Meryl out of his head. He kept replaying their conversation in his mind, trying to figure out where he had gone wrong. He knew he had been harsh, but he just couldn't understand why she was so opposed to accepting his help.
But what's the use of trying to explain himself to her when he knew she would never listen.
He waved the thought aside, when he finally realized he had arrived at coy, he came out of my car and made his way to my office.
"Tyrson sighed and tried to push the thoughts of Meryl out of his mind. He was at work now, and he needed to focus. But as he walked into his office, he was immediately accosted by Julia, one of the female employees who had a habit of hitting on him.
"Tyrson, you're here!" she exclaimed, batting her eyelashes. Tyrson gritted his teeth and yanked her arm, dragging her into his office.
"What is it this time, Julia?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous. "What do you want?"
"You know exactly what I'm talking about!" Tyrson snapped, his anger rising to the surface. "I've told you before to stay out of my personal life. I don't want you meddling in my business."
Julia's face turned pale. "I...I didn't mean to cause any trouble," she stammered, her voice quivering.
Tyrson stared at her, trying to control his temper. "You need to understand that there are some things that are none of your concern," he said, his voice tight with anger.
"Oh really? So are you going to pretend not to know what I'm talking about, for how long will you keep doing this Julia?" Tyrson demanded icily.
Julia smiled and came closer to him with her hands folded around her chest,"you shouldn't be stressing yourself over this" she said with an infuriating smile on her face.
"Well she asked about us and I was left with no choice but to tell her the truth " she said biting her lips seductively while placing a hand on his chest adjusting it.
"You think you're being cute, but you're not. It's not funny, it's not charming, and it's not helpful. So cut it out, right now."
Julia's eyes widened in shock at his harsh tone. She took a step back, removing her hand from his chest. "I'm sorry, Tyrson," she said, her voice small. "I didn't mean to upset you. I just thought I was helping."
Julia's smirk vanished as Tyrson's words hit her like a punch to the gut. "You don't have to say it like that," she said, her voice trembling. "I know you don't feel the same way about me, but there's no need to be so cruel."
Tyrson's expression softened slightly. "I'm not trying to be cruel," he said, his tone softening. "But you need to understand that there's nothing between us. I'm not interested in pursuing a relationship with you, and I don't want to lead you on."
"I love you, Tyrson, and you will love me back," Julia pleaded, her eyes filling with tears.
Tyrson was taken aback by her emotional outburst. He opened his mouth to say something, but the words caught in his throat. He watched as she wiped the tears from her eyes and pushed past him, storming out of the room.
He stood there, frozen, unsure of what to do next. He knew he had hurt her, but he hadn't meant to. He just wanted to be honest with her. He let out a heavy sigh, feeling like a complete failure.
After Julia had left his office, He walked to the Tyrson stood by the window, his thoughts swirling. He hadn't seen Meryl in the office all day. Where was she? He couldn't help but wonder if she had quit, or if something had happened to her. He shook his head, trying to focus on the present. He needed to clear his mind and get back to work.
As Tyrson's thoughts continued to swirl, he realized that he couldn't just sit in his office wondering about Meryl's whereabouts. He had to see for himself what was going on. So he took the elevator to the fifth floor and headed to the general office.
As he entered, everyone in the office stood up and greeted him. "Good morning, sir," they said in unison. He acknowledged their greetings with a nod and continued on his way.
The employees all sat back down and resumed their work, while Tyrson continued on his way to the receptionist's desk. "Good morning," he said, as he approached the desk.
The receptionist jumped to her feet. "Good morning, sir," she said, her voice filled with respect. "How can I help you?"
"I need to know why the new employee isn't at work," he said, his voice firm and authoritative. She mouthed an "oh" in surprise.
"I'm not sure why she's not here today," the receptionist said, her voice apologetic. "But I did find a letter with her name on it when I came in this morning. Maybe she left it for me."
Tyrson's heart sank as she spoke. He didn't want to believe that Meryl had left, but the thought was nagging at the back of his mind. "May I see the letter?" he asked, his voice cracking.
The receptionist nodded and handed him the envelope. His hands trembled as he opened it, and he pulled out the letter.
"What's in the letter?" he asked, still clutching the envelope in his hands. The receptionist arched an eyebrow, clearly curious as to why he was so interested in the contents of the letter.
"It says that the new employee won't be able to make it to work today," she replied, her voice tinged with curiosity. Tyrson couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief, glad to know that she hadn't left the company. But then he realized the receptionist was still looking at him quizzically. Clearing his throat, he tried to act nonchalant.
"I'll make sure to tell her to report to your office when she comes in tomorrow."
Tyrson turned away, pulling his phone out of his pocket. When he turned it on, he saw the picture of Joanna, smiling at him. Her death had been a devastating blow, and he still missed her every day. As he looked at her picture, he gently touched the screen, wishing he could feel her warm hand in his again.
He knew he would never get over losing her, but he had to keep going for her sake.
Only he could understand the pain of loosing one's only child and at the same time blamed for the death of that same child which had led to divorce between the two couple.
Only Tyrson could truly understand the pain of losing a child and then being blamed for that child's death, leading to his divorce. The thought of it brought him a fresh wave of grief and guilt.
Then, suddenly, a vision of Michelle, flashed through his mind. He had promised Michelle that he would visit her at school, and he realized he should probably go see her. A smile spread across his face as he remembered how quirky and funny she was. Her mother was certainly lucky to have such a daughter.
Tyrson couldn't help but wonder if Michelle's father knew what he was missing out on by not being involved in her life. She was such a sweet, intelligent, and fun child, and it was a shame that her father was missing out on getting to know her.
As he thought about Michelle, his mind drifted to the good times he had spent with Meryl and Joanna. It was painful to remember, but it also felt good to reminisce about the happy times they had shared.
He went back to his office to get his car keys so he could go visit Michelle at school.
Just as Tyrson was about to leave the building, his assistant, Manson, entered the room. "Hey, where are you off to, CEO?" he asked curiously.
"I'm going to visit a friend," Tyrson replied. "Care to join me?"
Manson's face lit up. "Absolutely!" he exclaimed.
