|•Chapter One•|((CLOSED))
Life in this society must be looked at as nothing out of the ordinary at first glance. However, it's a lot different when you look deeper.
It has been decades on decades since the second Civil War. America had bren torn between Pro-Rights and Pro-Life. To settle the long lasting battle and dispute, the government came up with a plan.
A child between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, on the parent's behalf, can be "Unwound," a process by which the child's organs are used as doner and are used for other people in need of a transplant. So life doesn't technically end, or so they try to make you think.
To cut out for this society, you are expected to be perfect. Clean, productive, smart, and well behaved. Sounds easy enough, right? Think again. In order to avoid unwinding, unless you lucked out and got yourself a pair of true unconditionally loving parents, you had to have straight A's, never get into trouble, do as you're told when you're told to do it, be a star student, be talented, and never over estimate yourself. Because if you fail, the Harvest Camp is near in your future.
But, as people tend to do, this procedure has been transformed into religion. Many Christians and other believers of God now see this as a holy practice. When the 10th child of a family under this religion turns 13 they are sent off to be Unwound. No because they are a bad child, in fact they rarely are. It is just something they have been preparing for their own life. They are a tithe; born to be Unwound. But the children rarely ever see the wrong in this custom. Such a shame...
Once an unwind document is signed, there's no going back. But often than not, a child who is to be sent off to be Unwound, will run. It is unclear why. To hide out until they turn eighteen? To try to flee the country and find a better way of life? Or to simply prolong the inevitable? Everyone has their reasons.
Runaway Unwinds are very common, so much that there's a police force there to catch them. Juvey cops have squeezed catching Unwinds into their usual obligations... Just another obstacle to escaping death.
So here you stand, wanting to help or waiting to be helped.
....
Welcome to hell, Unwind.
