CHAPTER 4

I dedicate this chapter to Theo James because it's his birthday!

No matter how old he gets, for me he'll always be the 18 year old Tobias :)

-Tobias’s P.O.V-

I follow Zeke through the crowd to the corner of the gym where the DJ’s set up.

“Hi! We need a mic!” Zeke shouts over the music.

The DJ hands him one. He turns around and hands it to me saying “You know the plan, right?”

“Yeah.” I tell him drawing a shaky breath.

“Then let’s get you someplace where everyone can see you.” He says taking hold of my sleeve and pulling me along.

We walk to the centre of the dance floor and stop. All around us people are dancing. They don’t notice us standing there.

“Go on.” He urges.

I take a deep breath reminding myself that I was doing this because I had never felt like this for any other girl except this one.

I turn on the mic and get it up to the same level as my mouth. But after holding it there for several seconds I turn it off and turn to Zeke.

“I can’t do this. No way can I get all these people to turn their attention towards me.” I tell him.

“Whatever.” He says snatching the mic from my hand and holds it up to his mouth.

“Hey! Guys!” He says into it, the speakers making his voice boom across the gym making everyone stop talking and turn towards us. The music stops on cue too.

“My friend here needs to ask a favor from the girls.” He tells them pointing at me. This makes a few girls shriek when I remove my mask. He holds out the mic to me and I take it without hesitation, now that I know that I have to do nothing except talk.

“I’m looking for a girl. Not just any girl but a girl I danced with about ten minutes ago. If you think that you’re the one then please come talk to me.” I explain.

In a matter of seconds a line of girls forms in front of me. Zeke puts his arms around my shoulders and asks “Wow. You danced with all of them?”

“No! I just danced with HER!” I scream back making him pull away his arm and put up his hands in defeat.

“Now where do I start?” I mutter to myself.

One by one each girl walks up to me. If she’s not wearing a golden mask, I dismiss her at once in order to stop wasting time. If she is wearing a golden mask I hold out the phone and ask them if they can unlock it. Every one of them says ‘no’ and goes off.

Finally there’s the last girl left. She’s wearing a golden mask.

“Can you unlock this phone?” I ask her holding it out.

“Duh! It’s mine! Of course I can!” She exclaims snatching it from my hand. This makes my heart leap.

“Go on.” I motion her with my hands.

She types in something but the phone buzzes telling me that she got it wrong.

“I’m sorry probably pressed something wrong.” She says.

She types again and once again the phone buzzes.

“Oh! I completely forgot that I’d changed the password!” She says removing her mask. This girl’s Molly Prior! No way could I have danced with her!

“Stop it. I know that you’re not the one.” I say softly trying to pry the phone from her grasp. The people nearest to hear what I said and crack up and soon word spreads throughout the crowd and in no time everyone’s laughing.

“Let me try one more time! This time I’ll get it right!” She shrieks pleadingly.

“We have one more try left before the phone locks.” I tell her. No way am I wasting it on something so stupid.

“9471” A voice says from behind me making everyone gasp.

Without turning around I punch in the code. The phone unlocks! I turn around to check who the girl is?

She’s blonde and has brown eyes!

 She’s BEATRICE PRIOR!

She’s the girl I’m looking for!

I walk to her and stop just a few inches away from her.

“Why did you run away?” I ask her softly my voice barely a whisper but that’s all I can manage right now.

“I thought you wouldn’t like being seen with a girl below your standard.” She replies.

“Standard?” I ask her surprised.

“You’re the popular kid. I’m the nerdy kid.” She explains.

I sigh and lightly bump my forehead against her forehead. I can’t believe the she had such a stupid thought because I never believed in me being popular or anything.

“Don’t ever let that thought bother you again.” I say taking hold of her hand.

“What…?” Before she can continue I cut her off.

I press my lips against her’s. At first I feel her tense under the touch but then she loosens up and moves closer to me. We forget that we have company. It’s just me, her and the feelings we both had been suppressing that we had for each other.

She pulls away and I have no choice but to move away from her. But I don’t let her get that far. I wrap my arms around her waist and draw her into me. She puts her hands around my neck and rests her head against my shoulder. We slowly swing to the music playing.

But neither of us makes an attempt to break away from the other.
