CHAPTER 45

TRIS POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I smile genuinely at Tobias. I love how he isn't nosy and that he doesn't push anything.

He stands up and I grab his outstretched hands. I have been sitting in the same position so long, that all my bones crack when I begin moving.

I slide open the balcony door and everyone tells me we're going to get breakfast.

I nod in response and take a quick shower and get dressed in like five minutes. I am wearing jean shorts that cut off in the middle of my thigh and a loose shirt that is neon yellow and is almost a tank top except longer and you need a shirt that goes underneath it.

I quickly brush my hair and leave it down wet. The sun will dry it anyway, and I do a tiny bit of mascara.

I run out of the bathroom and everyone is waiting for me.

"Ready, sweetie?" Mom asks.

"Yeah. Let's go."

We all trail through the front door and when we finally get outside, there is a nice little fancy breakfast restaurant where you can sit outside.

We all quickly ask for a table and we follow the hostess and she gives us our menus.

"Hi, I'm Leah and I will be you waitress today. Are you ready to order some drinks?" She asks sweetly.

"I'll get the apple juice!" Uriah says excitedly.

Leah giggles as if he wasn't serious, but jots it down anyway.

I quickly skim the menu, there is a vanilla latte and it has caffeine in it, which is even better.

A few minutes later, she comes back with the drinks and I quickly sip my drink. Delicious and I can even feel the caffeine making its way into my system.

Leah comes back and we order our breakfast, which I decided will be pancakes.

After we all finish eating, we decide to go on a helicopter tour of the island.

Tobias wasn't to happy about that, but he didn't argue.

"You don't have to do this you know." I whisper in his ear as we climb aboard.

"I want to." He answers unconvincingly.

I just shake my head and strap into the seatbelt as one of the employees hands everyone big earphones.

A couple minutes later, we are up in the air.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"That was the best thing ever!" Marlene exclaims.
"That volcano was awesome!" Peter yells.
"And I didn't even get dirty!" Chris squeals.
I laugh and Tobias grabs and holds onto my hand as we walk back to our condo. We are going to go to the pool today.
~~~~~~~~~~

"Cannon ball!" Uriah screams and jumps in. Zeke, Will, and Peter immediately follow and Tobias looks from me to the pool and then back to me again.

"Go." I say surprised that he was even asking if he could go in. I guess he wanted to know if I would be alright by myself. Why does everyone think I can't take care of myself? I mean I have been cleaning myself up pretty much every night after a beating since I was little.

I lay in the shade with Chris, Mar, Shauna, and Lynn and they are gossiping about some movie actor.

"I never knew Hawaii could be so hot." I pant. It is so sticky and humid outside.

"I know! Like what if my make up begins to run!" Christina yells as realization strikes.

"Who wears makeup if they are going to a pool?" Lynn asks.

"Normal people." Marlene argues.

Lynn and I just share a glance, shaking our heads. They're crazy.

All of a sudden, Uriah runs up to me on all fours like a dog.

"I WANT TO KNOW IF YOU WANT TO GO ONTO THE POOL!" He yells.

"FIRST OFF WHY ARE TOU YELLING, and second your sentence isn't correct. It's supposed to be into not onto." I say.

"Well then." He mocks and gallops, still on his hands and feet towards the pool.

"Look it! It's scooby doo!" A little boy yells pointing at Uriah with excitement.

The mother quickly shushes the boy flushing with embarrassment.

"You want to come in?" I look up and see Tobias hovering over me.

I shrug. "I don't care."

"It's really refreshing." He says in a sing song voice.

"Fine, but..... only if you promise me you will buy me some ice cream tonight." I smirk.

"Deal."

I begin to get up with a smile on my face.

"If..." Tobias begins.

I collapse back down on the chair.

"No if, ends, or buts around it." I say remembering a phrase that a teacher once yelled to the class when we didn't do our homework and everyone was making excuses.

Tobias snickers. "You said butt."

"You are so immature." I mutter trying to contain a smile.

"Do you think we could---" Tobias begins.

"Nope."

"Please!"

"Nope."

"You don't even know what I was going to say!" Tobias cries.

"Yes I do. 'We have to share it.'" I say in my most manliest voice.

Tobias looks at me in disbelief.

"Pfffftt no. But now that you say that....."

"You're ridiculous." I say under my breath while getting up.

I guess as long as I get ice cream, it will be alright.

Tobias immediately cannon balls in, splashing me with lots of water.

He surfaces and holds out his hands.

"C'mon Trissy!" He says excitedly.

"No. I am not jumping into your arms like I am three. If I am going to get in, I am going to get in my way." I say.

"You're so stubborn." Tobias says playfully.

"And you are so immature."

I sit down on the wet stones with my feet dangling in the water. I watch a group of what looks like three year olds play a game of ring around the rosy in the very, very shallow water.

All of a sudden, someone grabs my feet and pulls me into the water forcefully. My back bounces backwards against the concrete as my body slides into the water, my head narrowly missing the edge of the pool.

That hurt. Bad. It was one of those soft spots on my back where the wounds are still in the process of healing. It banged against the stone hard.

I quickly come to the surface choking on water.

After I feel like I just coughed my lungs out, I glance around.

Tobias is swimming towards me, Will is spinning around in a tube, Uriah and Peter are trying to talk to a little boy, and Zeke is glancing nervously from me to Tobias. Obviously, it was Zeke who pulled me in.

"Hey, you alright?" Tobias asks concerned.

"Yeah." I say as Zeke comes over to me.

"Sorry about that Tris. I wanted you to come in. I didn't mean to pull you in that hard." Zeke looks down, face flushing with embarrassment.

"It's fine." I say sincerely.

Tobias goes off to question Zeke about what happened and I luckily locate a long float.

I lay down on it, back to the sun and skim my hands through the water.

~~~~
"Tris." I jerk my head up.
"C'mon lets go up to the room. You've been on the float for an hour already. You're going to get a bad sunburn." Tobias says bringing the float to the edge of the pool.
"An hour?" I ask. Did I fall asleep? No. I don't think I did. I hope not. I don't want people watching me sleep. That's creepy.
"Yeah an hour. Here let me help you." Tobias quickly jumps out of the pool and takes both my hands pulling me safely to the land.
I see everyone walking ahead of us and Tobias takes my hand and walks with me slowly around the pool.
Each step I take is like a tiny punch to the bottom left hand side of my back.
Eventually, I make the mistake of holding the spot and hunching over a little more then usual.
"Does your back hurt?" Tobias asks stopping and pulling me into the elevator, closing the doors quickly.
"No." I lie and bite my lip.
"Tell the truth." He states.
"Maybe I am." I say in my annoyed tone.
"Look. We've known each other for what feels like forever and I know when your feel pain or you're sad or mad or anything. I can tell you're in pain so why don't you tell me what happened." Tobias says grabbing both of my hands and holding them up.
"Fine," I sigh. "When Zeke pulled me in, my back might have slammed into the concrete. it's no big deal."
"Are you kidding me? No big deal? This is a very big deal." Tobias looks angry. Not a good sign.
"I-it is fine." I stutter. I hate it when people are angry around me. Memories always seem to include some sort of anger.
"Stop saying it is okay! You're in the process of healing and he hurts you where you still have scars! That is not okay!" Tobias practically yells.
I flinch backwards and quickly move to the other side of the elevator, facing the wall so Tobias can't see the tears forming in my eyes. He is supposed to be the one who loves me and doesn't get angry with me and is nice and calm to me. Not a version of Marcus.
The elevator stops now and I quickly hurry out. Trailing me is a weak, "I'm sorry."
HOW WAS THAT! PRETTY BAD ENDING, BUT YOU'LL SEE THE POINT TO THAT FIGHT SOON ENOUGH!
