Death
CHAPTER 48
TOBIAS POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I watch as Tris's eyes close helplessly.
The only good thing that came from this experience was that we don't have to worry about Marcus anymore.
The cops showed up and yelled at him to stop. But--- he wouldn't. He was too engaged in his "activity."
They shot him. He's long gone now.
Our whole group is pretty shaken up and I know that mom and dad are debating if we should go back to Chicago or not.
I don't think we should. I mean we practically just got here and I know Tris would agree with me.
"Tobias, we contacted Colby and he said that he has sent over a note to a doctor here to give her something special. He wants to talk to you." Mom says handing me her phone.
"Me?" I ask surprised.
Mom nods and I put the phone to my ear.
"Hello?" I ask.
"Hey, Tobias?" Colby asks.
"Yeah man. What's up?" I ask.
"You can't tell anybody about this. Not your friends, not even mom or dad, okay? Only Tris."
"Okay." I say unsure of where this is going.
"The medicine that Bea will get.... is.... special let's call it. You know how that serum that we gave her before and she knew it wasn't real?" Colby begins to explain.
"Yeah." I say still confused.
"So as I said back then, she's divergent. They're very rare and special and Jeneane is coming after all of them. If she hasn't found out about Bea yet, she soon will. She's a very smart lady. Anyway, the medicine can speed up the healing process if you are divergent. It won't take as long, but the only frustrating thing is she'll be in a lot of pain for about a good day or so. Then it goes away almost completely." Colby tells me.
"Okay so I just have to give her that medicine and cover up for her when she feels a lot better quicker." I say understanding.
"Yeah. It hurts me to keep a secret like this away from mom and dad, but if the wrong people find out about this, it will be really bad." Colby responds.
"How come you're trusting me?" I ask.
"I see how much you love her. I know that you will take care at her at all costs." Colby says.
"I'll do anything for Tris." I confirm.
"Good, well get that medicine into her system really soon and make sure she sleeps a lot today and tomorrow and then she should have a minimal amount of pain." Colby says.
"Okay, thanks man."
"No problem. Bye." Colby hangs up and mom and dad come into the bedroom not even a minute later.
"What'd he want?" Mom asks.
"He uhh.... asked me if I could pick something out for him and his girlfriend while we're here." I lie. "Oh and also that you have to run over to that doctor place and pick up the prescription like right now." I say.
They both scurry away and I lay down next to Tris skimming her cheek with my thumb.
She is so beautiful. Everyone knows and that is why people are jealous of her. She's pretty and popular, even though she doesn't consider herself as any of those.
"Sometimes I wonder, bro, if things will truly ever get better for that girl." Zeke walks in and plops himself down into the chair next to me.
"Everything has to get better." I tell him.
Zeke scoffs. "Everything's just great for her, huh."
I stay silent. Nothing is great at all.
"Listen, Tris is like a younger sister to me and I just can't handle seeing her like this. I can't get that awful scene out of my head. I can't sleep because every time I close my eyes I see her. I see her and Marcus and the fear and pain in her little eyes.... it's just..... unbearable." I can't believe Zeke has been this serious for so long.
"What's your point?" I ask.
"My point is...... that I just.... I don't know how to put this man. You have to make sure she stays safe, I guess. Even though Marcus is gone doesn't mean that there aren't any other crazy people left. You just can't break her heart. She has to be mended. Her past haunts her and you are the only one who is and will be able to comfort her. You have to remember that okay? She's fragile. Just be careful bro." Zeke stands up and walks out leaving me shocked.
That was deep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I take the already filled up needle and gently plunge it into Tris's neck.
She lets out a moan and I tell her everything will be better soon. I quickly pull out the needle and place a band aid over the spot that will defiantly be sore later.
Sometime later, Tris's blue eyes open and immediately fill up with tears.
"Tris, does it hurt?" I ask rushing over.
She nods and a sob escapes from her lips.
I glance around to make sure nobody is in the room.
"Hey, listen. I gave you special medicine. It will only hurt for today and a little bit of tomorrow. Then you will feel like no pain! Okay! That's better then feeling pain everyday right?" I ask wiping away her tears.
"I guess, but how?"
"You are divergent. You can't tell anyone, no matter what. Not even mom and dad. But, we'll worry about that later." I tell her.
"Just another one more on the list of secrets and lies." Tris mutters.
"Colby said that you should sleep a lot today. How about you close your eyes." I say changing the subject.
"Will you stay?" She asks weakly as if she's embarrassed.
"Of course." I smile and lay down right next to her.
She lays her head right on top of my heart and I laugh softly.
"I'm your pillow now?"
"Obviously." Tris answers, her voice muffled.
I chuckle and begin to stroke Tris's hair to attempt to make her sleepy.
After about ten minutes, her breaths slow and even out and now I can't reach the remote.
"Hey! Somebody!" I whisper yell.
"Yeah?" Uriah asks loudly walking in.
"Shhhh!" I motion to Tris.
"Oh! Okay! What'd you want four?" He asks beginning to punch the air.
"TV remote. I want to see if there's something about Marcus on the news." I say quietly.
Uriah picks it up and hands it to me, but not before whizzing his hand past Tris' face a few times.
"Can I watch with you?" Uriah asks.
"You'd better be quiet." I warn.
"I'd take that as a yes." He makes himself comfy on the squeakiest of squeakiest chairs.
I shake my head and turn the Hawaii news on and quickly put it down on a low volume.
"What are you doing! I can't hear!" Uriah yells.
"Shut up!" I yell through clenched teeth.
"Why? Oh yeah! It's Trissypoo!" Uriah begins to dance around and I am about to fling the remote at him when suddenly Christina comes rushing in pointing wildly at the tv.
"I ran all the way here to have them do something that's already done!" Christina pouts.
"What was it you needed?" Uriah asks beginning to stretch for an unknown objective.
"Marcus's story is on the news next." Christina explains.
"Everyone has to be quiet. She is finally sleeping and the medicine makes the pain even worse because it is different. So everyone has to shut up and let her sleep." I say getting very annoyed.
"Oopsies! I'm sorry FourTris!" Christina says.
"I will defiantly worry about that later." I mutter as the news comes back on.
"Turn it up." Christina yanks the remote and puts it up a couple notches.
"Marcus Eaton, 53 was shot and killed by police today in Maui's own condo rentals after allegedly beating his adopted daughter, Beatrice Prior of age 16 with a belt to her back. We do not have all the information right now, but Beatrice is in critical condition and is expected a full recovery. We will talk with her tomorrow at 6, so tune in then."
The next news story flashes on and we all just stare at one another until I hear something that is terrible and I blame the two idiots who were loud enough to cause such a catastrophe.
