CHAPTER 71

TRIS POV

I am greeted by 8 familiar faces all looking down at me, wrapped in Tobias' embrace, with smiles on their faces. The gang is all here telling us how cute we are.

I glance up at Tobias, my cheeks flushed with redness. Tobias offers me a slight smile and orders for everyone to get out.

They all trail out and Tobias pulls me closer to him. I soften into his embrace and close my eyes again.

"I could get used to this," he sighs and kisses the top of my head. A smile makes it way onto my face and Tobias gently strokes my hair. "I love you," he whispers to me.

"I love you too," I reply with a large grin and I plant a kiss on his lips.

We both sit up and enter the living room area to find the gang all sitting around the tv.

"So does anyone want to explain to me why you're here?" Tobias asks and Zeke and Uriah begin jumping up on the couches.

"We're here because your mom is the coolest!" Uriah yells.

"Does she not realize that we're only here for like two more days?" I ask. They flew all the way down here. For two days. Two.

"You can accomplish a lot on two days," Zeke says and shakes his head. "Have I not taught you anything, Trissy?" Zeke asks with mock hurt. I just roll my eyes at his acting.

"So what should we do first? Go tan on the beach, or get massages, or get our nails done," Marlene begins to list things we could do, but I just shake my head.

"I am going to the beach. To have fun," I say and travel into the bathroom to get ready for the day.

"Tobias no!" I shriek with laughter as he pulls me farther and farther into the ocean.

"We need to get far enough out where the waves won't break on us. Hurry up!" Tobias says and begins pulling me with him.

We each have our own boogie boards and are planning on riding these huge waves all the way on to the shore.

"Watch out Tris!" Tobias yells and I quickly dive underneath a large wave that was about to crash.

I surface with a laugh and Tobias grabs my hand and pulls me to where he is.

"How is that one?" I point out a wave that is beginning to form.

Tobias shakes his head. "It won't break in time."

"Fine. What about that one," I point to another one.

Once again, Tobias shakes his head. "Too small."

"Well, aren't you just the wave expert today," I retort and Tobias laughs. "Trust me, I know what I am talking about."

"Mmhmmm," I say and Tobias points out into the horizon.

"Now that's a winner," he says and I have to admit. It looks like it's going to be a big one.

"Race?" I ask hopefully.

"You're on. If I win, you owe me a date night," Tobias says and I smile.

"Deal. And if I win, you owe me a date night and an ice cream sundae," I say.

"Deal," he says with a mischievous grin on his face.

I turn my head to see where the wave is and jump on to my boogie board. I begin kicking my feet and soon the waves picks me up and pushes me roughly all the way in to the shore. I laugh as it carries me and when I reach a full stop I glance around, searching for Tobias to see if I won.

I look in every direction, but don't see him. Panic and worry sweeps into my stomach and I run into the shallow area of the ocean to see if he didn't get a good hold of the wave.

"Tobias!" I yell, hoping that one of the nearby swimmers will turn their head and wave in my direction. Nobody does.

"Tobias!" I yell again, the panic getting much more intense.

All of a sudden, I see him. Lying face down in the water, his boogie board next to him still bobbing atop the water.

I shriek in horror and run to him, quickly pulling him out of the water. His eyes are closed and he has a gash across his forehead, indicating he hit something sharp. I quickly put my ear to his mouth and hear his breaths. I breathe a sigh of relief and begin screaming for Uriah and Zeke who are the first people I see.

They quickly run over to me and begin pressing on Tobias' stomach to get all of the water out of his lungs or wherever it is. I feel the tears on my face and Christina runs over, seeing all of the commotion.

Suddenly, he gasps and sits up, coughing and spitting out the salt water. I let out a half gasp, half sob and tackle him in a hug.

"Oh my gosh," I sob into his bare chest.

"Tris, it's okay. I'm alright. I'm alright," he says pulling away so he can look at my face.

"How is this alright. You... You could have died. And-and it would have been all my fault," I cry and he shakes his head.

"It's not your fault that I hit a sharp piece of coral, Tris. Calm down. I'm fine. I'm fine," he says with a small laugh and I quickly kiss him. In that moment, I realize just how much he meant to me. And it's much more then what I originally thought.

Tobias lays back down on the sand and I quickly realize that he's still bleeding. "We need to get you cleaned up," I say and offer him my hand. He takes it and I pull him up, him leaning on myself and Zeke, who is on the other side of him. We travel up to the condo and I have Tobias sit down in the chair with his head tilted upwards.

I run into the bathroom and grab my essential items before coming back. "Alright, uhh... This is just going to wipe away the blood," I say showing him the wipe. I quickly finish, seeing the size of the cut, traveling from the middle of his forehead to the end of the right side of his head.

"Now, this may sting a little, but I have to disinfect the cut," I say and begin wiping the wound as gently as possible. He groans and I try to hurry up the process as fast as possible. I hate seeing him in pain. How did he ever survive when he was with me all those times when I was in agony?

I quickly bandage up his forehand and he gives me a small smile. "Thank you doctor Tris."

"No problem, patient Tobias," I say and plant a kiss on his cheek. "I'm going to take a shower. I will be right back," I say and stand up going into the bathroom.

TOBIAS POV

Zeke walks into the living room area and sits down in front of me.

"Way to be smart, Four," he says with a smirk.

"You've done plenty of stupider things," I retort and he shrugs.

"You know.... She really loves you," he whispers.

"Who, Tris?" I ask.

"No, the bride of Frankenstein. Yes, Tris," he says sarcastically. "She was crying so hard when she found you, man. We've seen her cry a lot with the whole Marcus thing, but this was a whole different type. She like loves you so much," Zeke says and a smile makes it way onto my face. I love her with all of my heart too.

"And Shauna loves you so much," I say, diverting the attention from me to Zeke.

"Uhh... She's really mad at me right now, actually," he says scratching his neck.

"What did you do this time," I groan.

"Nothing! I swear! Three days ago it was our one year anniversary and I may have forgotten and she's really mad that I would forget something so important," Zeke sighs.

"Just tell her that you were waiting until you got here to bring her out to a special dinner. That way it proves that you thought about it," I suggest and Zeke nods, eyes lighting up.

"That's smart!" He yells and high-gives me.

"See, I'm not all stupid!" I yell as he runs out of the door to probably go ask Shauna out to dinner.

The door slams shut and all I hear is Tris' light hums coming from behind the closed bathroom door.

I'm lucky to have her. She's the best thing that has ever happened to me. She made me realize what it feels like to be empathetic and in touch with your emotions. She's taught me how to love and be caring. I love her. And that's all that matters.

About ten minutes later, Tris emerges from the bathroom looking as beautiful as ever. She looks adorable with her wet hair strung around her face. She sits down next to me and rests her head on my shoulder. I rub her shoulder with my thumb and just enjoy the moment. The peace and quiet. Everything about this instant.

Tris reaches for the remote and turns on the tv, beginning to flip through channels.

"Tris, you can't watch TV, you still have a concussion," I murmur and hear her groan. "But... I'm the doctor today and you're the patient. I get to advise the both of us," she argues.

"Only twenty minutes, okay?" I cave in. She nods happily and turns on The Middle.

Just then, there is a rapid knocking on the door. I glance at Tris confused and she mirrors my response. All of our friends have their own key.

I begin to get up, but Tris quickly beats me to it, pushing me softly back into the couch. "I got it," she whispers gently.

I watch as she walks to the door and looks through the peephole. Her entire body stiffens and she turns around with a horrified expression on her face.

"It's... It's him."
