Airports

CHAPTER 55

TOBIAS POV~~~~~~~~~~~

The curtain opens and mom stands there checking her watch.

"There's only 20 minutes left. We should wake her up don't you think?" She comes around and starts calling her name and touching her arm.

When she doesn't respond I can see that she is starting to freak out. I think fast.

"Why don't we let her sleep? She didn't get any sleep last night because she had a bad dream and she was to scared to go to sleep, but she just fell asleep..." I drag out not knowing what to say.

"Okay, okay. Well then get ready for the landing."

Mom closes the curtains behind her and phew that was a tough one. Tris would kill me if she found out that I had told her that she was taking the medicine. I don't know why that bothers her so much I guess it's because she doesn't want to feel weak, but I don't know.

As we start to descend, I clench the seats hand rests. I hate flying.

"Please stay seated until the cabin has stopped moving and we thank you for flying Hawaiian Airlines today."

The seatbelt light goes out and everyone stands up and starts to get their belongings from the overhead storage area.

Tris still hasn't even stirred and I know that she would be annoyed if or really when she finds out that I was carrying her, but what other choice do I have? I put my backpack on and inch my hands under her knees and her back.

I walk out into the aisle and am about to step off this death contraption, when the pilot stops me.

He pulls me into the corner so I wouldn't be holding everybody up and he motions to Tris is my arms.

"Is that Beatrice Prior?"

"Yeah it is. I'm Four. Thank you for flying the plane well and not getting us killed," I say.

The pilot laughs thinking I'm kidding, but I'm not. I laugh along just to play it off and he reaches out to shake my hand.

"Uhhhh, I can't really do that right now sir."

"Oh right absolutely. When she wakes up, will you please let her know that the captain offers her his greatest sympathy and we would like to give her this basket of treats because I mean it is the least we can do," The captain hands me a pretty big basket and I grab it with my right hand the hand that is under her knee.

"Thank you sir. It means a lot," I say and he nods and then motions me forward to exit the plane.

There's no one in the hallway and I begin to fix Tris's position in my arms to make sure the basket doesn't fall.

Everyone is waiting outside of the gate and I hand Christina the basket knowing she won't eat it because she is trying to be as healthy as possible for teenagers.

"That's for Tris and Tris only," I say loudly so Zeke and Uriah know not to touch it because knowing them it would all be gone before we even got our luggage.

It's about 2 in the morning here, which is really weird. In Hawaii it would only be 8 at night. The airport is pretty empty, but whenever somebody passes they always look at me weird probably because I'm carrying Tris. I can only imagine what thoughts rolls through their minds.

When we get to the luggage area it has already started to come out and everyone finds their own suitcases pretty quickly and then Uriah starts complaining because he has to carry my suitcase.

"Dude, you see my hands are full," I argue.

"Yeah, but but I don't want to carry yours. I want to carry Tris'."

"Well then switch with Zeke. Who cares?" I ask annoyed.

I feel Tris start to shake in my arms and then she snuggles in closer to me. I smile. That's the first time she moved since she had the pills. Soon she'll be yelling at me to put her down.

I look over at Zeke and Uriah who are currently yanking Tris' suitcase back and forth saying that it smells better and that it looks cooler. They are such idiots.

Marlene stalks over and grabs Tris' suitcase and yanks it hard. Uriah and Zeke both loose there footing and fall backwards and everyone starts to laugh despite the brothers protests.

As they get up, Shauna walks over to Zeke and flicks him right in the forehead. Marlene does the same to Uriah and smiles innocently.

"Hey.... But we were helping..." Zeke says in shock.

"Helping," Lynn scoffs.

"Yeah helping. Carrying suitcases," Uriah says looking confused.

Uriah gasps. "You all.... trickered us. Trickery!" He yells.

Tris fidgets in my arms and her eyes blink open, but quickly close.

TRIS POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Everything sounds so far away. So distant. I feel movement like I am gently swaying. It is so cold... I feel warmth on the right side of me and snuggle closer. Everything seems to fade away and I let it. I feel so comfortable, so relaxed. There is not a single worry in the world.

Some time later, I hear yelling that sounds so much closer now then it did before. I start to move and force myself to open my eyes.

I see an unfocused and blurry Tobias and once again the world goes dark. I feel the gentle movements once more and let myself relax. There is nothing to worry about.

Wait.

We were coming back from Hawaii on an airplane. Tobias made me take those pills that are ridiculous. No wonder I feel so weird, comfy and out of it.

I force my eyes open and I make myself focus on his face. Everything begins to clear and I see that he we are in an airport and he must be carrying me.

I start to struggle and Tobias glances down.

"Tris," he warns.

"Tobias. Put me down," as I struggle against him, his grip seems to get stronger.

"I don't want to drop you. Stop moving," he orders.

I sluggishly stop. All that kicking and trying to roll around drained me of my energy. It's sad I know, but the medication is still in effect, trying making me come back down into warmth and relaxation. It's really tempting actually. The only thing that is keeping me awake and sort of alert right now is that image of me being weak. I hate how everyone thinks I'm just a weak little girl.

Tobias stops moving and I hear our groups voices saying they want food. Shocker.

"Put me down," I whisper yell.

Tobias glances down and sighs. He lowers me onto my feet and I wobble for a second.

We are standing in front of a Burger King the only thing that is opened 24 hours in this airport. The lady behind the counter looks at us stupidly and everyone starts walking forward to look at the menu.

I walk with them feeling as if I am swaying like a breeze and someone's hand on my back, steadying me.

Tobias' hand leads me to a table and he pulls out a chair for me to sit in and I huff as if it the most annoying thing in the world, but oh how grateful I am.

Tobias sits in a chair across from me and he takes my hands in his and says, "You and I both know that that medication hasn't worn off yet. I don't want you walking around about to fall over because you don't want anyone to see you basically sleeping. It's almost 2:30 in the morning. We all should be sleeping right now. I know you don't like it, but everyone in this group has seen you at your worst. Even Lynn and Peter. Nobody expects you to be up for hours and hours on end after surviving so much. They look up to you Tris. Everyone does. I can tell that you don't like that pill because it makes you sleep, but it makes you feel more calm and relaxed doesn't it?" He asks looking straight into my eyes.

I can't lie to him. I nod and groan realizing he's right.

He nods and looks around.

"Do you want anything to eat?" He asks eventually.

I shake my head no and he nods.

"The pilot wanted to give you a basket full of treats," Tobias says suddenly. He motions towards something near Christina's luggage and I see it piled high with chocolate candy and muffins.

"That was nice of him," I whisper.

"Yeah. We offer you our greatest sympathy," Tobias says in a weird deep voice. I giggle and he flashes me a smirk.

I don't know why, but I keep feeling rushes of cold air blow across me and I realize that it is the air conditioning vent on the left side of me. Now normally air conditioning is in the warm months. Not in December. This is truly a messed up airport. A shiver runs through my body and Tobias starts to take off his jacket.

"No. Then you will be cold," I say.

I stand up carefully and plop down on Tobias's lap.

"That works too," Tobias chuckles as everyone starts to come back with there little snack food.

"Four, Tris, anything?" Dad asks.

Tobias shakes his head and I snuggle closer to him letting the last bits of warmth and relaxation take me away. To a better place. A place without worry.
