Chapter Three: Before I Choose My Fate
Thank you again for all of your support! I'm sorry I don't update a lot, but I've been on a trip to Japan for over a month! I realized that I was working on this chapter a while ago, but never finished it, so here it is! Also, sorry for some mistakes, but wattpad sometimes cuts off the end of sentences and makes it all weird and stuff.
(Same P.O.V.)
I wake up feeling lethargic and drowsy, but then I realize what day it is today. Today is the day I finally can be free from my father. I walk to the kitchen area and see my mom and dad talking quietly. They sound like they're trying to be quiet, but they also sound mad at each other, so I stay hidden behind a wall and listen to their conversation.
"Come on, Ezra, we can't do that to Jeremy and Y/N. They are their own people, we can't decide things like that for them," I hear my mom say quietly.
"Of course we can, Dana. They may be their own people, but they aren't really good at making their own decisions," my father retorts. I snort mentally upon hearing that.
"What makes you think that?" my mom asks.
"Jeremy is always speaking like a crazy person, and Y/N, well, Y/N can be a liar and very weak," my father responds. I want to punch something when I hear him say that, but at the same time, I just want to cry and feel sorry for myself.
"What are you talking about?! my mom's voice rises when she says this. "They are your children, our children. How could you say something like that about them?" my mom asks with anger in her voice. She's always cared about us much more.
"Don't raise your voice with me, Dana. I work hard for this family, and I'm just saying what I KNOW is right and true."
I hear my mom start to walk away and I race back to my room and get back into bed. I put the covers over myself and close my eyes. As soon as I do, my mom comes in and tries to "wake me up."
"Y/N? Honey, it's time to wake up," she says softly, trying not to startle me. She gently shakes me, as she says this. After a couple of seconds, I slowly flutter my eyes open and look at my mom.
"Good morning, sleepy head," she jokes, pretending the fight with my dad didn't even happen. Maybe she got into fights with him often and was just good at hiding it.
"Good morning, mom. I can't believe today is the Choosing Ceremony." I say. I try to sound excited, but I'm still a bit tired, and I think she notices that. She smiles at me and tells me how proud of me she is. When I hear this, I can't help but feel warm and fuzzy. I know that sounds weird, but the only person I really get compliments from is her, and occasionally Jeremy, so when I do get them, it makes me extra happy. I quickly thank her and start to get ready after she leaves.
After I'm all dressed and have put my hair up, I start heading to the kitchen. I see my dad standing there, reading something. He doesn't say anything to me when I walk in, or even look up from what he's reading. It doesn't really surprise me though. After I get something for breakfast and about to eat, he finally speaks up.
"Choosing Ceremony today, huh? You know which faction you're going to choose, right?" he asks me. I know he's just trying to make me choose to stay in Abnegation, but I just nod my head.
"Which one will you be choosing?" he asks a moment later.
"You'll see during the ceremony," I reply trying not to sound too irritated, although, I'm pretty sure he could hear it.
"Don't talk back to me Y/N," he harshly tells me.
As I'm about to reply and say something snarky and witty, my mom and Jeremy walk into the room. I quietly finish my meal, and head off to school.
Le Time Skip
After several hours of learning, it's finally time to choose my own path and become part of Dauntless. I'm completely positive that's the faction I want to choose.
