"Where did Eric's team go?" Christina asks

"They must have gone to the end" Will says

"All right. Lights off. Gather around. Come on." Four says putting the yellow neon flag in his jacket. "Okay, what's your strategy?" He asks

"We can hide the flag well enough so they can't find it" someone says

"Let's send out a team to scout their location. See if we can find their flag" someone else says

"I say we blitz them."

"Yeah, that's the best way to lose quickly" Al says

"Let's make them come to us"

"End this quickly. They won't expect it"

"We don't know where they are. Okay, we split into two groups, defense and offense." Christina says

"Who put you in charge?"

"Someone has to make a decision" Christina says

"We need to be more aggressive"

"We need to be smart about it" Will says. Everyone continues to argue in the distance I see a Ferris wheel I slip away from the group and jog over to it. I look up at how tall it was and began climbing it.

"You're not gonna jump, are you?" I suddenly hear I look down past my shoulder and see Four at the bottom of the Ferris wheel.

"No, I'm just trying to get a good vantage point" I say continuing to climb.

"Good thinking" he says beginning to climb behind me.

"You don't have to come with me" I say

"You should go easy. You took a beating" he says

"I'm surprised you noticed. I saw you leave during the fight" I say

"Yeah, well, it's not something I wanted to watch" he says something runs through my body another warm feeling. What is he doing to me? Suddenly the metal bar below my feet break and I fall but Four was behind me and caught me grabbing my waist. My shirt rose up a bit causing his fingers to touch my cold skin.

"You okay?" He asks

"Yeah. I'm fine." I say continuing on

"This is high enough" he says with a grunt.

"No, we need to go higher" I say, I look down to see Four is looking down at how high up we are. "You all right?" I ask he looks up at me and then back down again. "You're afraid of heights" I say

"Everyone's afraid of something" he says

"I didn't think you were afraid of anything" I say

"Come on, 13" he grunts I ignore him and continue to climb I reach the middle but still couldn't see anything so I continued.

"Really? Are you even human?" He asks finally I reach the point I felt good in and looked out.

"This isn't so bad" I say panting. "Look! There it is" I say pointing out to where you can see a blue neon flag in the distance.

"Good eye" he says "All right. What's your game plan?" He asks

"We split into two groups. We'll go up this side and let the rest of you engage Eric" I say

"I can see em" someone says

"Go! Go!" Another shouts

"Light em up" Four says people on our team light up the flares and throw them so the other team couldn't see us as well.

"Let's go" Christina says we both move crouching we run behind a box Christina and I split up I look around the corner and see no one. Someone screams so I look behind me to see if anyone was coming but I saw no one. I turned back and went around the corner and there stood Peter his back was to me aiming his gun at Christina.

"Tell me if this hurts" he says to her

"You tell me" I say Peter turns around shocked I shoot him in the arm and then Christina walks around him

"You bitch!" Peter yells

"Asshole" Christina says and shoots him in the leg.

"That was awesome" Christina says to me as we run off. Christina covers for me as I make my way up the tower. "Go, 13! I'll guard" she says to me aiming her gun out beside me to make sure no one is there. I climb up the tower and open the hatch Molly turns around so I quickly duck below when she shoots. I then go to shoot but I run out of ammo so I toss the gun and hop up into the room. Molly throws her gun at me and tries to attack me but I dodge her and hit her in the head with the gun. I run over and grab the flag waving it in the air.

"Whoo!" I cheer everyone else cheers as well below.

"Game over" Will shouts

"Good job, 13" Al says patting my back. After the game we all were heading back to the Dauntless base.

"Hey, 13" a guy says walking over to me.

"Yeah?" I say

"Come with us" he says

"Where are you going?" I ask

"Shortcut back. A little initiation ritual, Dauntless style" he says I agree and follow him and the other people that we're going as well. We ran up these stairs and then opened the door to the top of the building where there was a cord that went straight out people were being hooked up and then pushed off.

"Wow" I say

"All right, let's do this!" A guy says

"You're up" he says to me I get a little nervous. People were telling me to do it but I wasn't sure. Should I? Screw it why not. I go over and get inside the belts and straps that would keep me from falling to my death.

"Don't forget to pull the brake at the bottom!" The guy yells

"Okay" I say

"You ready?"

"Harness is good" then they push me off I scream as I fly through the city the air rushing past my body I felt like I was flying. I looked down at the city below me the lights, the buildings, everything was so pretty. I ran my fingers across the building glass and saw my reflection fly by. Then the straps adjusted and I felt like I was falling. I scream more but then in the distance I see people they were screaming but I couldn't hear what they were saying. Then suddenly it hits me the brake!

I reach back to pull the brake but I couldn't reach it. I groaned reaching out further until my finger tips grasp it and I yank the brake. I start to slow down I could see the wall getting closer and closer to me and then I fully stop right before I would of hit the wall. Everything is silent for a minute everyone below me stayed silent and then I cheered and everyone else joined in. We headed inside the building after I walked into the pit where everyone was celebrating.

"13" I look over and see Four walking over to me "hey" he says

"Hey" I say

"Congratulations" he says

"Thanks" I say

"You know, I wanted to say that you were really good tonight. You were brave" he says

"Yeah" I say

"Anyway, you should get back to your friends" he says

"Okay" I say and walk away over to Christina, Will and Al.

"What was that about?" She says to me

"He was just congratulating me" I say she nudges me and winks I roll my eyes at her.

"If you're ranked above the red line, you'll move on to the second stage of training. If you're below it, we'll waste no more time on you. Here are your rankings" Eric says then the rankings are put out above people began cheering.

"Nice" Will says when he sees his name.

"You made it" Al says

"You made it, 13" Christina says I smile and we hug. Then we are leaded out back where a bunch of trucks were.

"Load these up" Eric says

"So we pass the first stage of training and this is our reward" Christina says to me as we walk over and grab a big heavy bag filled with something and carry it over to the truck. We continue this for a while and make small talk about making it and what we think is next and what not. I then see something shining in the distance it catches my eyes so I walk over to see what it is.

"Olivia?" I say walking over to her. She was my moms best friend when she died we never saw her afterwords.

"Oh, look at you!" She says pulling me into a hug. She knew about my father and what he did to us she always had my mothers back.

"What are you doing here?" I ask

"I knew they'd assign you here... sooner or later. Look at you! God, you're so strong and beautiful" she says putting her hands on my arms.

"Olivia, you can't be here" I say

"I know, but you're in danger and I promised your mother I would take care of you" she says

"What?" I say

"I had to ask you something. You weren't sick the day you took your aptitude test, were you?" She asks

"How did you know that?" I ask

"Just because you don't see me doesn't mean I don't know what's going on. I've kept an eye on you two" she says

"Why?" I ask

"Before your mother died she made me promise her that I would keep you and Caleb safe. But you're just like your mother so I ask you again you weren't sick the day you took your test were you?" I shake my head.

"What were your test results?" She whispers to me I look around and then back to her. "Honey, its okay. You can tell me" she says

"They were...They were inconclusive." I say

"Divergent? You can't tell anyone. You can't tell your friends, your instructors. You can't trust anyone" she says

"I'm not" I say

"People have always been so threatened by Divergents. But now Erudite is looking for them everywhere. They're actively seeking them out." She says

"Why?" I say "Olivia, what am I?" I ask

"You don't conform. Your mind works in a million different ways. They're scared of you. Stage two of training is where you are most at risk. They're gonna get inside your head and watch how you respond to fear. But you can pass. You can make it through Dauntless. I have seen it before." She says

"How do you know so much about this? About Dauntless?" I ask

"Your mother" she says

"How did my mother know so much?" I ask

"Never mind about that. Do not let them know who you are." She says

"Wait!" I grab her arm. "Wait! Were you and my mother Dauntless?" I ask

"Listen" she says but she's cut off

"Hey!" A guard yells "what are you doing?" I look back and see Olivia is gone and turn back to the guard. "Trucks loaded. Let's go" he says I walk away and follow the guard back to the truck. We head back and began stage 2 of training. I just needed to do what Olivia told me don't let them know who I am and I can get past this.
