Dita and the magic hump
Chapter 3: A useful hump
.
Once cleaned, Dita put on the strange clothes, them reminded her of those seen in the stained glass windows of the village church.
"Well, now all that's left is for you to change your hairstyle."
"What?"
"Change your hairstyle, you must cut your hair and make changes... I'll help you."
Little Nose led Dita to a rough wooden seat and then officiated as a hairdresser thanks to sharp scissors that he found near the place."
"See? Now you can pass like any other villager."
"I have new clothes and hair, but I can't do anything with this hump of mine."
"Yes, this can be a problem when you relate to people. There must be something we can do... I know! Dita, look for the witch's scrolls, there must be some spell that makes humpbacks disappear."
"You think so?"
"Sure, let's go."
Dita and Little Nose were anxious to look for the magic scrolls and in the end, they gathered some that promised a lot.
"Well Dita, what are you waiting for? Help me search something useful these scrolls."
"Hey, I don't think I can."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I can't read, I've never been taught."
"Can't you read? What's this about you never being taught? Don't they teach children in your world how to read and write?"
"No, only the children of the castle lords and those who live in the monasteries to be priests are taught."
"You come from a primitive world, Dita. Don't worry, I know how to read; a secondary effect of the rebound of the spell that hit me. Just help me with the scrolls, like my paws aren't very long when compared to human arms."
Thus, Dita extended the scrolls and Little Nose eagerly read the contents of these.
"Haha! I have found the spell."
"Did you find it?"
"Yes, now it's a matter of having a chalk to draw a magic circle and then you put yourself on top of it."
Dita didn't quite understand what her feline friend meant, but she helped Little Nose look for the chalk and then the cat started drawing a magic circle whose pattern was very complicated.
"Well, I'm done, uf. Now Dita, stand on the magic circle, while I recite the enchantment."
Little Nose stood on two legs and began to say magic words as he moved the tail from one side to the other. Suddenly, his little moustaches moved nervously, his tail curled and Dita's rattle emitted a jingle.
"Oh no, Dita has that thing with her," he thought.
"Dita, throw the catbell," he shouted, but it was too late. The witch's house exploded in thousands of fragments.
When the dust settled, Dita pushed some rubble to free her body.
"Little Nose... Where are you, Little Nose?"
"Please get me out of here," answered the cat. His hind legs were the only thing you could see peeking out of the surface.
Dita helped her little friend and he shook his body to remove the dust that covered him.
"What a pity, with the work it took to clean you up and now your clothes and your hair, in reality all of you, is covered in dust."
"Thank goodness you're safe, how did you survive?"
"When I saw that the house was going to explode, I decided to enter the magic circle. The catbell and my presence changed the spell in ways we don't know, but apparently a kind of magical barrier was created that protected us... Too bad, your hump is still there... Oh, something's wrong!"
Suddenly, beams of light appeared from Dita's hump, forming multiple magical circles of intricate design, and a kind of rune appeared on the young girl's hump.
""Bag of unlimited content". Dita, apparently your hump has become a magical bag!"
"What?!"
"Don't worry, this is very convenient, so you'll never have to carry heavy things from one place to another."
"I don't think all this is good, are you sure you can't make my hump disappear?"
"I don't know, for now the best thing is to look for the scrolls and anything important that we rescue. We'll put everything on your hump."
Dita imagined herself to be like a kind of snail, but she had no choice but to help Little Nose, unfortunately several scrolls were destroyed, among which were those that said how to get rid of Dita's hump.
"Better not to cry over spilled milk that is useless. Dita, we'd better get out of this stinking forest, by the way, did you know that the locals call the forest: the witch's forest?"
"Well, it doesn't surprise me, without having to meet the witch one can feel that everything around is evil."
"Maybe it will get better with time. Now let's go to where humans live."
The sun announced a new day as if welcoming Dita and Little Nose, but after a while, the star king was inclement and the two travelers were dying of heat and thirst.
"Dita, try to get something out of your hump, something that will refresh us."
Dita remembered how Little Nose and she only made the things they wanted to keep in her hump touch on her back, and they disappeared as if by magic.
"Water skins," she said as her fingers brushed against her hump, and instantly they closed over the skins. He drank from one of them and then offered some to Little Nose.
Once refreshed, they decided to continue walking since the sun seemed that it would continue to martyr all the living beings that dwelt in the world.
"Here we are, it's a small village, there you can see the fields."
Dita took a deep breath and followed her light and confident little friend, waiting for the locals to treat her well, unlike the world she came from.
