Chapter 9
I'd lost count of how many days he had been inside of that room of his. He barely leaves his bedroom and when he does he makes sure I'm in my room or I'm away and out of his sight or out of my sight.
A sigh escaping my lips as I burrowed my head deeper into my hands, my ears lay open as I listened to the noises sounding around in the Kitchen.
I don't think I can keep to myself anymore at this point. I'm worried about him. Maybe I can just text him? No, he probably won't answer. I have no clue on what to do at this point.
A loud crash bashing through the quiet I cringed as the hushed alarms of Preston bolted throughout the entire Kitchen and a rush of air washed over me as he raced up the stairs and into his bedroom.
Peeking into the hallway to see him crouched over his legs as he panted, I called his name out and he went rigid. The breath he was taking stopped halfway, and he straightened himself so he was positioned properly.
"...Sky?" Preston questioned. His voice sounding like he forgot that I was living inside of the house as well, he turned around, his eyes a primary yellow as they glowed through the shadowed corridor.
"You told me you were going to see the Doctor." I whispered. Preston's lips perking upwards, two teeth rested upon his bottom lip, seeming sharper than they should be.
"I did." Preston answered shortly. Gesturing for Preston to continue, the small curve of a smile which tilted upwards on his face fell hard as the piercing suns inside of his eyes softened.
"........He said that it couldn't be helped." Preston's eyes casted away from mine, not wanting to look at me any longer I could feel heat press against mine.
"H-How are you going to survive? You need water to live Preston."
"I can try and find other ways?"
Suggesting the odd thought of how to get liquid which contained water inside of Preston who would be severely damaged if he contacted water didn't sound too appealing.
"............." Heat falling down my face finally, Preston's sun lit eyes widened as his body tensed up yet again. Preston out stretching a hand, I slipped my hand into his and stood there.
Feeling him pull towards himself, I thudded into his chest as his arms wrapped around my waist and his head rested on the side of my face.
His breathing jagged, I could feel his heart pounding in his chest. The realization of him being terrified dawning upon me, I let my arms slide over his shoulders and buried my face into the crook of his neck.
"I'll find other ways." Preston assured. A hopeless smile popping onto my face as a huff of breath shot out of my mouth, Preston laughed morbidly. His voice low and fragile.
"You don't trust me?" He questioned. Cocking his head to the side as he pulled away, not letting go of my hands, I shook my head wiping the tears away from my eyes.
"No, I just know that you're stupid enough to actually pull it off."
"Mmmmm, yeah, I guess you're right." He giggled. Hugging me comfortably, one odd question floated into my head at the image of Preston's soft brown eyes, parting, I stared at the yellow ones.
"Why did your eyes change colour?" I asked. Preston's face crinkling in confusion, he let go of my hands which earned a rush of warmth to fly away with him as he went to check the mirror.
"....When did they start being yellow?" I continued.
Trying to keep the conversation going I followed him into the bathroom to see him with his eyes the size of dinner plates as he stared at his reflection in pure terror.
"I....I don't know." Sweat pouring down the sides of Preston's face as his body shook with fear I placed a hand on his shoulder. Knees shaking violently I shook him gently.
Preston freezing to look at me, I pressed a smile onto my face as I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, looking into his eyes reassuringly.
"I'm sure it's just a side effect. Besides, I like it." I added. Heat bubbling onto Preston's cheeks, he glanced away from mine, a huge grin toppling onto his lips as he blushed.
Turning back to watch me yet again, the colour of his iris flickered to deep red as the white seeped into pitch black, goosebumps coating my skin I took a step back.
Preston taking one step forward, his lips curved into a smirk as sharp, knife shaped teeth hung viciously off his upper lip. Reaching a hand out towards me, I stiffened.
Blinking, I opened my eyes again to see them the same sun colour that I was used to in the short amount of time. Preston grinning patiently, I forced a laugh.
