Chapter twenty six, The show begins.

"What do we see in a world that doesn't see us?"

Our insignificance lowers us deeper into the soil with each step we take towards the sky. Merit has climbed the highest of mountains only to find the fewest of hope. All that burden gradually thickening and weighing down on her young shoulders made her inevitably feel something she had always feared, resentment.

Andres was here to split the burden with her, but although their meeting was warm and assured Merit that she's indeed not alone, as soon as they had left Ross behind and she gave herself time to take a deep look at what Andres has become, the insecurity found its way inside of her, playing with each string of her heart and each passing thought in her electrified mind. Andres was silent and so was she, but that didn't last for long.

The wind was howling like a young hurricane across Ilusia and all of its branches. The airships had been frozen awaiting Ross' orders, The Lightmen had disappeared, but the most terrifying possibility Merit could think of was imminent, Ilusia's war titan won't be resting in Librarian square for long.

Young children collected flags like souvenirs while their parents prepared themselves for the apocalypse. It was clear that at this point the defensive force of Ilusia no longer had a leader and whoever was left to fight had no reason to fight for. The factories were burning fuel and coal with no workers to operate them, Steamhall market grew crowded as citizens armed themselves with the forbidden robots and A.I machinery that would protect them from whatever danger they couldn't see.

The sky wasn't beautiful, lighting with freedom as Ross would say. It was dark and numb, smoking with the airships' dirty fuel and the flags they showered the people with still fell occasionally. Only those who were sane enough understood the propaganda Ross' army initiated to encourage people's curiosity to go beyond Ilusia' borders and finally bring back the robotic industry with the all the freedom for Ilusia' people right to practice it.

Underneath the black hooded cloaks the two young ones wore there was a hidden tear that dried as they walked. Merit suddenly stopped midway and asked Andres to step into a hidden alley for a second.

"Whats it?" He asked, she sighed but boldly looked into his eyes. "How did you find me? And how are you no longer a Lightman?" Merit asked, she had no sense of carefulness towards Andres feelings at all. The boy stood still looking into her golden eyes that have long lost their glamour, and that icy hair that grew dusty and unkind to her face. The wind blew her hood away a little bit showing how pale and different she looked. Although she was quite masculine, her face looked weak and exhausted and her eyes looked somehow..empty.

"I know you've lots of questions, Its been five years, and they weren't kind to both of us." Andres said, his eyes shied away from her deep stare. "I know all of that, but I also know that I've been betrayed by everyone I trusted, and I have the right to doubt your intentions." Merit said, still not giving Andres a bit of trust.

The wind blew between them as the crowds' steps grew quicker and louder, soon, they both could see that the people were running, loud screams could be heard from a distance and approached them with the wind.

Their conversation was interrupted, Merit ran to the corner of the alley grabbing a child from his arm and dragging him, "What's going on?!" She shouted so the child can hear her, "The airship in Liberation square fell down killing everyone!! The others look unstable too!!" The child said as Merit loosened her grip on him and let him go. Andres approached her, "All we have is twenty-four hours to reach Corelight, if not, Ilusia will be in flames."

As the panic's flame rose among the residents, Merit observed the airships in the sky as they seemed to be out of control out of the sudden. She eyed Andres in confusion, "Do you know anything about this?!" She asked, he sighed and then nodded in affirmation, "Titan had already sent his signal, It will arrive soon." Andres said as Merit swallowed the lump in her throat as she starred at the doom sky that no longer shielded those underneath it, the sky is the enemy of those who hadn't protected its sanctity for ages, It's payback time.

Titan's magestic steel legs twitched and turned in Liberation Square, the steam broke through Its hinges and sirens resounded through its steamy mouth that made the entire city smell of grease and smoke. With the one step he took, redemption day begun.

Viktor's chase.

His grin was as wide as usual. He walked through the panicking crowds gently and slowly with a joyful dance, tapping the ground with his regular rhythm. The ecstasy of human panic reached his nose and left his soulless body on cloud nine. He was a beast who fed on human emotions that he somehow could never feel, Viktor was an immortal god, or at least he thought so.

"Yes, yes! That damn scene! Have I predicted everything again? Haha!" He laughed as the crowds grew smaller and smaller. He was at Liberation square.

The Titan was still standing, testing his strength and operating his own system, not so far from him, blood was splattered all over the street. The airship grinded all those underneath it like minced meat, the air smelt of burnt flesh, grease and fresh blood. It was a refreshing smell for Viktor who smelt nothing but a delicious meal. Soon enough the crowds were gone, there was nothing left but the corpses of the hundreds of women, men and children. The screams of those who were burning in the flames of the crash grew muffled and were disappearing as those who were decapitated tried to flee the wreckage, crawling with whatever limps they had left, Viktor walked a bit closer to the wreckage where a woman managed to crawl to a safe area. She had both of her legs completely destroyed, blood loss was distorting her vision but as soon as she saw Viktor she gathered whatever strength she had left, "HELP ME!" She screamed as blood came out of her mouth, Viktor walked closer to her, looking emotionlessly.

"My son, he's down there!! I can hear him!" She said, Viktor quickly frowned and then eyed her completely damaged body, he can't imagine the pain this woman is in but he could feel disgust upon her mentioning her son.

"There? In the fire?" He asked her as he went down on his knees, looking at her deep in the eyes.
"Yes!! I can hear him, please just pull him out!!" She cried, pointing her finger at an opening in the wreckage where Viktor can clearly see a child who fainted due to the smoke but looked alive.

"Is he blond?" He asked, she nodded as she began to faint.

Viktor took a look at the wreckage, perhaps that beast had a little of mercy to pull the boy out, or
perhaps not.

"Oh, too bad. He's in flames, completely gone, nothing but ashes." Viktor laughed, getting closer to the dying woman so she can hear him as she was taking her last breath.

"He's dead, too." He said.

The woman's eyes grew shocked. She died with a broken heart and a shock as Viktor grinned, "Dumb! So dumb! He's not dead, but he will be soon." He laughed, and got up, leaving her with her wide opened eyes and fresh tears.

The titan was getting ready to finish what he started and take down the rest of the airships, resulting in the death of a million Ilusian,

But this wasn't what Viktor was looking for.

In the distant sight, sitting underneath a tree was a woman, she was calm. How can someone be calm in the midst of all those rising screams and golden fire? The scene of the mascare was a joy to Viktor and a portrait to the lady who awaited Viktor underneath the tree, sitting on the bench and observing the half dead crawling from the crash.

"Darling, am I late?" Viktor laughed, swishing like a dancer and sitting beside her like nothing happened, he took out a faded rose and gave it to her, "Can we call it a date? This beautiful scene is something you and I waited for for years!"

The lady eyed him in annoyance, "I never waited for this." She said, snatching the rose out of his hand and throwing it, but as soon as she did so the rose faded, completely disappeared into nothing.

"Its sometimes hard to believe that you're god." Viktor said, looking at her cautiously.

"I am a mere tool of them just like you and Cain, none of us is special." She said.

"If only you stayed where you were, things wouldn't have got so messed up like that. You're going to die kill all of us, stupid."

"And, is that a bad thing, Viktor?"

"Huh?"

"Do you think death is bad for us?"

"Of course it is! I don't want to die, nobody wants to die!"

"But we won't die in the eyes of the world, we never existed, Viktor. We were never born, so, we won't die."

"Stop with this poetic nonsense!" Viktor suddenly shouted, the lady managed to get him on his nerves, which is a rare event. "I don't care about you or your Cain's emotions. This bullshit means nothing to me! I'll protect my right to live here even if I'm the only one left!" Viktor shouted at the lady who was clearly Corelight.

An entity no one knew of it existence. It was disguised in woman's body, but she was the greatest mystery the world has never known.

"Alright then. Take me to her and I'll finish this." Corelight said, Viktor glared at her, "What are you going to do?" He asked, "That's a secret." She said, "Will you kill her?" He asked, she sighed. "Yes, Viktor, yes." She said, rolling her eyes as if she was talking to a child. "And we all get to live, Right?" He grinned, "Like nothing happened." She replied, he jumped in his seat like a child, "Great! That's just great!" He laughed as the two watched the fire swallowing the few screams left followed by The Titans first step.

At last, The Titan intervenes.
