36 | New Year's Day

I never insult artists and songs you like on your books, don't do to mine.

New Year's Day
(Taylor Swift)

"And the BBN awards goes to...,

WANDA MAXIMOFF!!!"

You and Peter yelled in happiness even louder than Wanda herself. You hugged Wanda and sent her to upstage then slapped your lips on Peter for how the two of you missed the award that you wanted.

It was fun. All three of you was fine with any in the group to have the trophy. And life picked Wanda was a great choice so you and Peter won't have to fight anymore.

Wanda hugged Bruce Banner, then took the glowing trophy in her hands and looked at it happily.

"Thank you so much... for this award." She started saying. "I have so many people I want to thank, first of all, my fans, and my producer, and especially my friends." She looked your way.

The camera was shooting your and Peter's reaction so you waved back.

"I honestly think the two of you deserve it more than I do for what has happened this whole year." She said with happy tears.

"No, we don't!" You shouted back.

"Thank you for being part of my life. Congratulations on your marriage. I wouldn't have this trophy without you guys, so, there's no winning today, this award is for us!!" She smiled and the crowd cheered.

The winner has to sing a song on stage, so there Wanda was singing her slow acoustic song, while you and Peter watched her from the seats.

"It's a shame, I want to hug Bruce Banner." You sighed.

"Why? Is hugging your husband not enough?" Peter said sarcastically.

"He's our idol bruh." You laughed at him, whine started to kick in. You rested your back on his shoulder. "You really can't be with me today?"

"Wish I could say otherwise but yeah, they want me to sing at the time square."

Life after marriage for the two of you were pretty much the same, busy works and noisy life. Yet you managed it better by giving each other more spaces and understanding.

"I want to watch the ball drop with you..." You said sadly. "Like, you know? How normal couples kiss after they scream Happy New Year!"

"I'm sorry I couldn't be at midnight, I love you, okay?"

"Okay..."

He kissed you on the cheek as Wanda finished her song. After the award all of you got on a taxi, heading to your New Year's Eve party, where you split up with Peter for him to go and work.

Then it was girls time. You, Wanda, Shuri, Natasha, Hailee, and others changed to party dresses, put on party shoes, then just get drunk and scream many songs together.

"I don't know about you! But I'm feeling twenty-two!" Wanda sang and handed you over the mic.

"Everything will be alright if you keep me next to you!"

Steve laughed taking a picture of you having fun. Natasha and Sharon both drank the whole gallon of beer upside down while men there can't. Bucky was enjoying his plums, Sam now loves plums too because of Buck.

The big screen was playing Peter Parker singing at time square, and he winked directly to you knowing you'd be watching.

Then the whole party gathered up for the ball to drop, counting down altogether.

   Five...

   Four...

   Three...

   Two...

   One...

   "Happy New Year!!"

After a loud burst of applause and cheering, everything fell silent, the air, the voices, the hearts.

You looked around, finding couples kissed and just wished he was there.

But then someone grabbed your hands, and you realized it was Wanda and Shuri. They didn't need to say much, they didn't have to cheer you up, they just had to be there and you felt okay.

Then the party continued under your roof, people got drunker and drunker, the house started to look like a mess. Peter Parker just returned from his New Year's duty, he didn't make it in time for the exact midnight, but he made it back to you.

People started to leave, Wanda's goodbye was decorated with a smile as she carried her shoes down the lobby back home. You and Peter stayed up together, just talking about things on the sofa.

The two of you fell asleep in each other's hugs, the next thing you knew was a sunrise to your eyes.

You moved away from him, making sure not to wake him up, then looked around the party in the morning that was a peaceful mess.

🎼Play The Song Here🎼

There's glitter on the floor after the party.

You put the guitar back on the stand.

Girls carrying their shoes down in the lobby.

Put the cover sheet up over the piano.

Candle wax and polaroid on the hardwood floor.

As you sat down on the floor, starting to clean the mess, someone sat next to you.

You and me from the night before.

   Peter smiled.

   Don't read the last page,

But I stay when you're lost and I'm scared and you're turning away.

   I want your midnights.

But I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day.

"Here, let me help." He said genuinely and offered a hand.

You squeeze my hand three times in the back of the taxi.

"When did you wake up?" You asked him as he wiped his sweats.

I can tell that it's going to be a long road.

"Just a little after you, I guess." It was a regular conversation under the sun rays.

I'll be there if you're the toast of the town, babe.

Peter accidentally hit the music player with his elbow and played a soft song.

Or if you strike out and you're crawling home.

He was about to turn it down but it was just the two of you, and so he paused the cleaning and pulled you closer for a little dance, you laughed but moved along with him anyway.

   You wanted his midnight.

But here you were cleaning up bottles with him on New Year's Day.

   Hold onto the memories,
they will hold on to you,

   Hold onto the memories,
they will hold on to you.

   Hold onto the memories,
they will hold on to you.

Softly, with your head on his shoulder you whispered. "And I will hold on to you."

He spins you around once and you fell right back to his arms with a laugh, then it faded into a grin, then just a soft smile as you looked up at him and said.

"Please, don't ever become a stranger whose laugh I could recognize anywhere."

He said. "I won't ever become a stranger whose laugh you could recognize anywhere."

There's glitter on the floor after the party.

Girls carrying their shoes down in the lobby.

Candle wax and polaroids on the hardwood floor.

   You and me forevermore.

And so you learned a couple of things that morning with him which you will later put it up into a song.

How everybody talks and thinks about who you kiss at midnight.

But you thought there was something even more romantic about who's gonna deal with you on New Year's Day, Who's willing to give you Advil and clean up the house.

   Hold onto the memories,
they will hold on to you.

Because that states more of a permanence.

   Hold onto the memories,
they will hold on to you.

Later that day you grabbed your notebook and wrote down what you remember.

   "Hold onto the memories,
they will hold on to you,

And I will hold onto you."

One last chapter to go. ❦
