Chapter 3: "A walk in the park"
"...as Jungkook finished, he raised his head to look at his admiring crowd and smiled. It was the most beautiful bunny smile Jimin had ever seen..."
•••
"So..." Jimin didn't turn to look at the voice that was disturbing him. He had been pretending to be playing chess for a while now, but in all honesty, he couldn't keep his thoughts from the bunny faced boy that would be part of his life from that day on, or at least, for the time he stayed there. "your father wants you to take Jungkook around for a bit."
Jimin finally turned to look at her with an annoyed expression on his face. Jem was standing right next to him with her hands on her hips. It was either hands on hips or arms crossed. Jimin wondered when they had become like this.
"My father?" He turned his head again and moved his white knight. "I thought it was Hyunah's doing..."
"Noona Jimin! She is your noona! And no, she said it was your father's orders."
Jimin just rolled his eyes in response.
Jem sighed before continuing. "C'mon Jimin, he really doesn't know anyone and from what I've just seen he is really shy. Just be nice to people for once. Please? Do it for me?"
"No Jem, sorry, I'm not taking him anywhere."
"Fine."
And with that Jem was gone, leaving a very annoyed Jimin behind. The last one scoffed, not being able to concentrate on his game anymore and went to his room to find something better to do, which meant lying on his bed while scrolling through his social media apps on his phone. He had been like that all summer: lying on his bed, being an ungrateful brat, fucking his stepmother and going out with his friends every once in a while. He didn't really know why he was acting like that or why he kept on fighting with Jem when all he wanted to do was make her laugh and see her happy. But something inside of him was rotten and he didn't really know when it had begun rotting. He turned around in his bed not being able to put up with his thoughts any longer and decided to sleep.
He was finally drifting to sleep when his door flew open. It had to be Jem. Jimin rolled over to watch at his rude visitor.
"Jimin, I need you to receive the groceries for me, they are coming in an hour or so."
Jimin lay on his back and eyed the maid up and down. She had changed her clothes.
"Going somewhere?" He arched one eyebrow.
"Yup!"
Obnoxious, fucking obnoxious.
"Where are you going, may I ask?"
"You may, I'm going to take Jungkook around the neighbourhood." Jimin's eyes widened, but she continued without letting him even make a sound. "So, can you do that simple task for me or not?"
Jimin nodded and Jem was gone. He stayed there for mere seconds when he knew he couldn't let that happen. Fuck no, he was not going to make Jem put up with his shit. It was he who was told to take the boy out and he was not going to let her do it for him. This had nothing to do with the fact that he was completely and utterly jealous that Jem would be giving attention to someone else other than him.
He got his ass up from his bed and strutted to the bedroom next to his. The door wasn't open so he sighed and knocked and then knocked again and then since no one was answering and he was beginning to get annoyed, he just pushed the door open.
The sight he came across was surprisingly annoying. The boy had literally moved all his new pieces of furniture into different places than they were before, making Jimin's previous efforts go to waste. He was now unpacking with his back to the door pretending to haven't heard the knocks or his fucking door opening.
"Who told you, you could move the furniture?" His voice was suddenly too harsh and regretted it afterwards, but when he heard the unaffected response his insides boiled.
"Jem-noona did." He was still not looking at Jimin.
Jimin sighed. The fucking brat would know what's good when he'd be done with him. "Okay. Just hurry, I want you ready in five."
The boy finally turned to him with confusion in his eyes. He had a slight frown and he looked too cute to be true.
"I'm taking you out." Jimin said as if it was obvious. Then he turned around and closed the door behind him. He didn't want to give the boy the opportunity to refuse so he just left. He would give him seven minutes, nothing more, nothing less. If he wasn't ready in seven minutes he would have to resort to other methods.
He went down the stairs and found Jem dressed again in her maid's clothes. He couldn't help but roll his eyes. She was using the vacuum cleaner as if nothing had happened.
"Really?" It was all Jimin could muster.
"It worked, didn't it?" She retorted, shrugging her shoulders, not even sparing him a glance.
Jimin just rolled his eyes.
"Where are you taking him?" She said warily.
"The park. No need to be afraid Jem, I won't take him to a fucking gang meeting or something."
"Well, one never knows with you!" She shrieked defensively.
Jimin rolled his eyes while running his fingers through his hair impatiently. Who did Jem think he was? Of course he wouldn't get that innocent boy involved in any of his shit... Or at least that's what he thought...
Jimin looked at his wrist watch and was going to go get Jungkook, when the boy appeared at the top of the stairs. He started descending them with his head hung low so he was unable to see Jimin's smirk form on his lips. The latter felt a weird feeling rush through his body at the thought of the younger obeying him just like that. He had been ready in exactly five minutes, when most people would have just taken longer, more knowing the fact that the older had done nothing to deserve his obedience.
"You ready?" Jimin asked as soon as Jungkook descended the last step.
Jungkook just nodded.
Jimin wasn't completely sure if the boy was avoiding his gaze or had eye sight problems because he couldn't remember the boy looking at him in the eyes ever. Well, actually, it was only once but since that moment Jungkook had looked away from him every time he would talk to him.
Aish! Jimin scolded himself. It has only been two times that I talked to him. Why am I even thinking about these things?
He shook his head and continued to the door expecting Jungkook to follow him. They were about to leave when Jem spoke one last time.
"Have fun!" She said from behind a sofa. "And Jungkook, call me if he does anything to you."
"Good bye, Jem." Jimin said harshly and closed the door before anyone else could utter a single word.
They walked in silence for two blocks, when they reached a corner. A muscular pink haired man was standing nonchalantly on that corner the two men were approaching. He was smoking a cigarette leaning on a street post.
When they reached the muscular man, Jimin held out his hand and shook the man's own one, bumping his shoulder with the other's shoulder. It was a friendly greeting, showing that they clearly knew each other and had clearly arranged to meet there.
"How's it going?" Came out the muscular man's low voice.
"It's good man. How are you?" Jimin answered.
"I'm okay." The muscular man raised his eyebrows pointing with his head to the boy standing awkwardly behind Jimin.
"Oh." Jimin had totally forgotten about Jungkook. "Jungkook this is my friend Wonho, Wonho this is Hyu- I mean, my stepmother's brother, Jungkook." He mumbled the introduction awkwardly.
The man named Wonho nodded and smirked at how shy Jungkook seemed, who hadn't even raised his head once.
The three men started walking towards the park now and as soon as they did, Jimin engaged in a deep conversation with his friend, leaving a very shy and awkward Jungkook to fall behind.
When they reached the park, Jimin sat on a bench and Wonho followed right after. Jungkook stood there not really sure what to do or what was expected of him.
"Go on," said Jimin, opening his arms. "you are free to play."
For a moment Jimin thought he saw Jungkook's expression change, but too soon the boy was walking away from them. Wonho started talking again about what they had been talking on the walk there, but Jimin was no longer listening. He was looking too intently at the boy's back. He couldn't help but wonder what the younger was going to do.
Not too long after, Jungkook reached a murder of crows looking for food on the park's grass and Jimin was sure the boy would want to feed them. Jimin cringed at how childish the 18 year old could be. After making sure that was what Jungkook would do, he turned his attention back to his friend. He was telling him about how he had dealt with this one client who hadn't played by his rules.
"...so basically I told him: "I don't need a gun to make you beg for your life." And you know what he responded?... Well, he said nothing because I grabbed him by his collar, pushed him against the wall and... started fucking him senseless."
"Mhm, that's a good one Wonho." Jimin hummed in agreement not having paid attention to anything his friend had just told him.
"What? Are you kidding me? Are you even listening to me?"
"Yes! Of course I am."
"Fucking my male clients senseless? That makes even a slight sense to you?"
"What? You fucked a man?" Jimin's eyes went wide.
"No! Of course not! Who the fuck do you think I am?"
"The muscle pig, Wonho?"
Wonho rolled his eyes. "First of all, I'm straight, second, I don't mix pleasure with work... most of the time." He said the last part winking, which caught Jimin by surprise and made him chuckle. "Anyway," Wonho continued with a more serious tone. "what's wrong with you lately? Isn't Hyunah giving you good sex anymore?"
"What? No! She is amazing, it's just..."
"She is old."
"No. What the hell? She is not old!"
"Accept it Jimin, you have a kink for old women."
"No, asshole, I don't have a kink for old women, Hyunah is not old. She is not even 15 years older than me and she is way hotter than any of your chicks."
"Well I won't disagree there. But, don't you think fucking your stepmother is a little dirty?"
"You are one to talk." Jimin scoffed. "Plus, I earned the right to fuck her when my father decided to marry a woman more than 20 years younger than him, and like I always say, there is nothing better than a good fuck at the commodity of your own house. You can get it whenever the fuck you feel like it, it's heaven dude."
Wonho just shrugged, opening his arms to his sides showing an expression of defeat.
They kept on talking about Wonho's deals and clients until Jimin saw a big crowd not very far away from where they were sitting. He craned his neck to see what the crowd could possibly be looking at, but found it impossible to see at the far point they were.
"What are you looking at?" Wonho questioned.
"That crowd, it wasn't here when we got to the park."
"Wanna check it out?"
Jimin nodded and they both got up and walked to where the huge crowd was standing. Where did all those people come from? The park seemed almost empty when they got there.
As soon as they stepped into the crowd, Jimin came across the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. What had he said it was heaven before? Had he really told his friend that fucking his stepmother was heaven? Well, he clearly saw now that that heaven was nothing compared to the one he was seeing right now, the one he was hearing right now. That was heaven. He could have stayed there listening to that heavenly, perfect pitched voice for the rest of his life. He almost closed his eyes to revel in the sound deeper when he remembered how he must look. He turned to his side and saw his friend Wonho watching the scene intently. Had he perhaps seen him? Jimin brushed those thoughts aside. Probably not, he seemed too immersed in the song to have noticed him daydreaming.
He paid attention once again to the sight in front of him. There was a bunny-faced, black haired boy standing in the middle of the crowd singing a romantic song with a microphone, which he had most probably, borrowed from the man next to him, who was playing the guitar harmonising with his voice. The man was long haired and seemed to be a busker. There was a hat on the ground and it kept filling itself with more and more money as the boy sang.
When the song finally ended and Jungkook stopped singing, Jimin's stomach turned, he had been enjoying the song so much that he hadn't even noticed that at some point it would have to end. He felt extremely sad but as Jungkook finished, he raised his head to look at his admiring crowd and smiled. It was the most beautiful bunny smile Jimin had ever seen, which made his sadness go away instantly. The crowd wouldn't stop clapping, making Jungkook's beam deepen. Jimin realised it was the first time he saw him smile and his insides churned in anguish. He had seen the boy confused, annoyed, awkward multiple times in the short time they had known each other, but it was the first time he saw him smile.
The man holding the guitar started talking to Jungkook while the people started dispersing, which got Jimin out of his daze. He stood there trying to make out what they were talking about. Luckily they couldn't see him due to all the people moving all around to different places.
The man had grabbed the hat full of money and was telling Jungkook something that Jimin couldn't quite understand. He moved closer and got the last words.
"...Are you sure?" The busker was saying. "You played a big part. Don't you want some of it? Half of it or maybe more?..."
Jungkook kept on shaking his head and that was enough for Jimin to interfere.
"No, keep it, really..." Jungkook was saying when a figure appeared at his side. He jumped a little in surprise.
"Well, I think Jungkook should get everything, you didn't have a single person before he started singing." Jimin exclaimed in a rude and cocky voice.
He was aware he should be more respectful towards his elders, but the truth is... he didn't give a flying fuck.
"And who are you?" The busker answered back defensively.
"I am his hyung." Jimin crossed his arms over his chest giving out an air of confidence.
"Is that true?" The busker turned to look at Jungkook, clearly surprised at who Jimin was.
Jimin held his breath.
"Yes." It was all Jungkook said.
Jimin released his breath. "That's right. Now, the money, all of it." He extended one hand and the busker was about to give him the money when Jungkook talked again, much louder than last time.
"No."
Jimin turned his head at the younger. "But Jung..."
"I wanna go home."
"But..."
"Now!" He said the last part with a low voice but in such a firm way that Jimin decided not to argue anymore.
Jungkook started waking away towards the exit to the park. Jimin retrieved his hand and without even saying goodbye followed Jungkook when he felt a hand grabbing him by the arm, halting him on his track. When he turned to look it was Wonho.
"I'll just smoke another one before I head home." The pink haired, muscular friend spoke.
"Um... I-I will..." Jimin didn't have to finish his statement because Wonho nodded and released his arm indicating that he had understood.
Jimin didn't give it too much though and resumed his steps, walking faster now to catch the younger. He caught him outside the park already and when he was a good two hundred meters away from him, he slowed his march to find a pace. They walked like that for at least ten minutes when Jimin saw the younger turning right and chuckled silently.
"Jungkook!" Jimin yelled.
The boy turned in his steps, he was breathing hard and seemed very angry. "What?!" He snapped.
"The house is that way." The older answered pointing towards the left.
Jungkook turned around even redder than before and resumed his walk.
When they got home Jungkook arrived first and even though Jimin was already too close to him, the younger managed to close the door on the older's face after entering. Jimin's insides boiled.
He opened the door forcefully and watched Jungkook fume through the stairs and out of sight. The first door closed giving a loud echo through the whole house.
"What happened?" Jem was standing right next to Jimin and the latter knew she had prevented herself from saying: What did you do to him? But he didn't care, he was too angry to deal with her at the moment.
"Nothing." He said, closing the front door forcefully in hopes that Jungkook would hear it. He was not the only one playing this game. "The damned brat doesn't know how to respect his elders!" He yelled looking at the place Jungkook had disappeared into, talking to the boy more than the girl right next to him.
"But..." Jem was totally startled, but Jimin couldn't care less, all he wanted to do was shut himself in his room and scream as loud as his lungs would let him.
He left Jem mid-sentence racing up the stairs in a very similar way the younger had done a few seconds before and disappeared from view. The second door closed even louder than the first one.
