Steve Rogers- Damsel in Distress
Requested by chloebella209. Enjoy!
You had joined the Avengers a while ago. You got along well with all your teammates. There was one teammate in particular that you were rather fond of and that was the World War II captain. You found his stories fascinating and you helped him with any technology. Day by day, you felt yourself slowly falling in love with Steve.
...
An alarm had sounded in an old Stark building downtown, signalling someone had broken in. Tony thought it was probably only teenagers on a dare but you weren't so sure. He tried to tell you that there was nothing of importance left in that building but you were sceptical.
"What if they missed something, Tony? These bad guys are getting clever. They can take the smallest piece of technology and replicate it," you argued.
"Fine. If you want to go check it out then go check it out but when you come back and find nothing, I'm going to say 'I told you so'." You ignored him and went to suit up.
...
You went to the location and carefully checked every room of the building which would have been faster if you had a scanner or even a partner. So far, it looked like Tony had been right and you could just imagine the smug look on his face. You about to call it in when you heard a voice that sent chills down your spine.
"Greetings, fräulein Y/N..." You turned around to see Red Skull smirking at you. Before you could react, he released some kind of gas and you were knocked out.
...
Steve had been looking everywhere for you. It just wasn't like you to vanish like this.
"Hey, Tony, have you seen Y/N?" he asked.
"She went to check out an alarm at an abandoned Stark facility."
"And you let her go alone?!"
"She's a big girl, Cap. She can handle herself. Although, now that I think about it... She should have been back hours ago..."
"I'm calling her," Steve said, fishing his phone and calling your number. With every passing ring, he was getting increasingly worried.
"Ah, Captain. I was wondering when you would call..."
"Red Skull," Steve growled. Tony stiffened.
"Nothing... yet..."
"Uh, guys, I think you should see this..." Sam called. They all filed into the mission briefing room. On one side of the screen, it had footage of a museum that was packed full of people that were attending the opening of a new exhibit. On the other side was footage of you in some kind of stone area that had water ducts in it. One of your ankles was chained to a heavy block.
"I have planted a bomb somewhere in the museum you see. It will detonate in one hour. At the same time, water will fill the area that your little friend is being held in. The choice is yours, Avengers; save the lives of the innocent or save the life of your teammate." With that, he hung up.
...
Hours later, you opened your eyes, to see Red Skull standing in a water duct.
"Good to see you've awakened, fräulein," he smirked.
"You! What do you want?!" you snarled.
"To destroy Captain America."
"Then why take me?"
"Because he's in love with you." Your eyes widened. Was Steve really in love with you?
"Wh-what makes you think that?"
"I have seen the way he looks at you. If anything happens to you, it will completely break him. What a shame that you will die before he got to confess his feelings for you..." Before you could ask any questions, he was gone and water started filling the room. You tried everything to get out but the water was coming in fast. You weren't sure how much time had passed but soon you were completely submerged. Your last thoughts were on Steve.
...
Coughing, you slowly opened your eyes. You tried blinking away the blurriness that clouded your vision.
"Y/N! Thank goodness!" You recognised the voice as your mind started working again.
"St-Steve?"
"Yes..." As your vision cleared, you could see Steve in his Captain America uniform.
"I thought I lost you..." You blushed as he hugged you.
"What happened back there?" You explained everything to him but there was one thing on your mind.
"Red Skull also said that you had feelings for me..." Well... there was no denying it now...
"He's right. I have been in love with you for a long time but I was afraid you'd only see me as an old relic," he sighed.
"I love you too, Steve."
"You... you do?" You nodded.
"I love your stories and you've always been so sweet and kind to me," you smiled.
"Do you maybe... want to grab coffee some time?" he shyly asked.
"I'd love to."
