"This is so cool!" Vincent exclaimed for the 10th time in a row.
Since the group arrived in the World of Disney, Avalyn's cousins couldn't but marvel at all of the sights of this incredible place. They reacted to everything from the tallest skyscraper to the tiniest crack in the wall. Okay, not literally an actual crack on the wall, but none of the less, they were all quite impressed with what they were seeing.
However Jam, Poppy, and Ty stopped speaking their reactions after the 5th time.
We hitched a ride from the newly rebuilt Soarin' Station in Tomorrowland and went from there, soaring through the air as we all made our way towards Animal Kingdom. We were currently flying over the Himalayas, the cool, tingly air breezing through the wind. It was now late into the night, which wasn't exactly helping at all with the already cold enough weather.
"This is so cool!" Vincent cheered, his voice echoing around us.
Kaitlyn growled under her breath, her right eye twitching. "If I hear him say that one more time--!"
"Calm it down, Kaitlyn," Sebastian hushed, stroking her hair gently before wrapping his arm around her shoulders. "The kid is just excited to be here."
"I just hope Ava knows what she's doing," She replied. "Because if I hear him yell again, I swear I'll zip up his lips like Genie did with Ben!"
"Genie from Aladdin? He's here too?!" Ty exclaimed.
"Robin Williams, GOD rest his soul." Poppy spoke with sympathy, herself and Ty bowing there heads down in respect.
"You guys are weird," I commented with a laugh.
"Oh, and you're not?" Poppy shot back playfully.
"Get on our level!" Ty rapped, snapping his fingers.
"Besides, you were equally just as upset as we were when Robin died." Poppy added.
"I wasn't that bad," I crossed my arms, lowering my head to avert her gaze. "You were the one texting me non-stop about the CNN news report."
"At least I wasn't the one that locked herself into her room at grandmas and grandpas house for two hours." Poppy elaborated.
"It wasn't 2 hours, Poppy," I quickly defended. "That's a bit of an exaggeration. It was an hour and a half."
"My point still stands!" She proclaimed.
Kaitlyn rolled her eyes at the trio as she looked over at Ben, who had finally caught on to their earlier conversation.
"Wait, family shenanigans aside, where'd you hear that?!" Ben spoke up, looking surprised at the redhead.
"Sebastian told me," Kaitlyn grinned, leaning her head to the side against the boys shoulder. "Isn't that right?"
"Seriously?" Ben raised a brow at his best friend.
"Mostly good things, I promise!" Sebastian defended. "But we need a good laugh every now and again."
Ben grumbled under his breath, muttering something that I couldn't decrypt. Despite the two of them being best friends, it looked like Sebastian enjoyed spoiling Kaitlyn with Ben's "forbidden" secrets. I suppose in the end it's all fun and games, but Ben looked like he was heading towards the tipping point.
"Um, guys?" Vincent spoke up, his voice sounding a bit shaky. "I think you should see this--"
"Ugh, Ava, can you please ask your cousin to quiet down?" Kaitlyn asked with an annoying sigh, placing a hand on her forehead. "It was cute 10 minutes ago, but now I'm getting a head ache."
"Try to relax, okay, Kaitlyn?" I replied, assuring the girl before looking over at the youngest. "Vince, what's wrong?"
"I really, really, really, think you guys should see this," Vincent nodded, pointing forward.
Trailing the direction of his shaking finger, I followed the path with my eyes only to stumble upon something so unbelievable and shocking, I nearly choked on my own spit.
Santiago could sense something was wrong when my body suddenly tensed. He placed a gentle hand on my shoulders, but I never averted my gaze from the newly discovered sight.
"Ava?"
"Guys, look," I spoke slowly. "It's Everest."
Finally everyone turned their attention in the direction of myself and Vincent. When they all finally found what the both of us were seeing, the atmosphere around us grew a lot more intense.
"Holy crap," Jam muttered.
Mount Everest was completely leveled. The giant mountain was just, well, gone. A pile of demolished rubble. It was a little hard to make out at first with all of the snow falling around the area, but that was defiantly it.
"So when your communicator said the Dark Anomalies destroyed Everest, Sebastian," I spoke with a gulp.
"It wasn't kidding," He shook his head. "Not one bit."
"You think the Yeti survived?" Kaitlyn asked.
"You mean that monster thing from the ride?" Ty questioned, raising a brow.
"Yes, that monster thing from the ride!" Kaitlyn snapped. "I liked him."
"Relax," Sebastian cooed, patting her gently on the head. "I'm sure he's down there somewhere."
"If the Dark Anomalies did this to Everest, then we all have a basic idea of what it could do to the Pride Lands," Poppy realized. "And then some, right?"
"Right," I agreed with a nod. "We need to get to Pride Rock as quickly as possible and warn Simba."
"So when we get to Pride Rock, will we see grown up Simba or younger Simba?" Vincent asked. "I'm not entirely sure how the age process works in this world, so..."
"It's grown up Simba," Sebastian confirmed.
"Okay, here's a quick role call," Santiago spoke up. "Simba and Nala are grown up, their daughter Kiara is grown up and is married to Kovu."
"Just like in the second movie," Ben clarified.
"I heard that a new show was coming out, something called The Lion Guard? It's supposed to be about Simba and Nala's second son? Is he here?" I asked.
"Kion?" Poppy recalled.
"Yeah, him! Is Kion here too?"
"Wait, how did you even know that? He's not due to appear until November!" Ben spoke up with surprise.
"It was all over Twitter last week," I replied with a shrug. "What's the big deal."
Ben scoffed, throwing his hands up into the air. "Of course it was all over Twitter!"
"It's just like over at Baskin Robins," Sebastian patted Ben on the shoulder. "Twitter always finds out."
"So, that's a no regarding Kion sticking around here?" I asked for clarification.
"Yes, Avalyn, that's correct." Ben confirmed with a sigh.
We were up in the air for a few more minutes before the glider began to descend. The snow filled landscape was now off in the distance as the gang and I were met with a spike in warm weather and luscious green grass. The glider touched down, landing inside an empty station as the 9 of us exited the mode of transportation and made our way outside.
The area had a striking resemblance to the Animal Kingdom theme park back home. Just down a short path from the Soarin' Station was a small African village. The town was so colourful and lively, it was actually kind of depressing to think that the Dark Anomalies would want to destroy such a cute little part of the World of Disney.
"Where to now?" I asked.
"To respect the animals living out in the Pride Lands, there are no roads for normal cars or trucks to get us there," Santiago explained. "But I do know someone who may be able to help us."
"Are you thinking about who I'm thinking?" Sebastian questioned.
"I bet you $5 you're not," Santiago gambled with grin.
"Bring it!" The British boy exclaimed.
"Who are we talking about?" I spoke up with confusion.
"This way, he's just on the other side of the village." Santiago instructed, taking my hand as he took the lead.
We made our way town the path, entering the town. I was expecting it to be filled with people. Children playing soccer across the road, adults sitting in their patio chairs while relaxing with a drink of lemonade. But instead what we got was nothing, and a whole lot of it.
Well there was the occasional patch of leaves blowing in the wind, but that was really it.
"Where is everyone?" Ben spoke up, looking both ways for any signs of life.
"Is this supposed to be some kind of old ghost town?" Vincent asked with confusion.
"Those are down in the West," Poppy confirmed. "We're somewhere in Africa right now."
"This is so weird," Santiago scratched his head as he stepped forward and away from the group, taking a look around. "The town is usually busy during this time of day."
"Maybe everyone is asleep?" Jam questioned, taking a picture with his phone.
"I highly doubt that," Ben argued, reaching over for eldest cousin's device.
"Okay, okay, I get it!" He jumped, putting away his phone. "No pictures."
"Hello?!" Sebastian yelled, cupping his hands around his mouth. "Anyone here?!"
Suddenly the Kimunicator started beeping. I pulled it out of my pocket, taking a look at the screen to see that it was blinking a bright red. I pressed the green button and the red screen formed the words "DANGER!" followed up a computer AI voice saying;
"Dark Anomalies Detected."
"Um, guys?" I gulped nervously.
"What does it mean?!" Ty spoke in a panic.
"No, no, no that can't be right," Santiago stepped towards me, taking a look at the screen. "This town should just be out of the way of the Dark Anomalies trek for the Pride Lands."
"Did anyone see anything out of the ordinary during our flight here?" Ben asked.
The cousins and I all looked at each other, exchanging a mix of worried and confused expressions on our faces before shrugging awkwardly.
"Maybe the Dark Anomalies are just slower than we originally thought," Kaitlyn spoke up. "They're-- or it--- is probably just leaving Everest."
"Everest is still a bit of a ways away from here," Sebastian replied. "Besides, if it was, we would have spotted the Dark Anomalies as we were passing by."
I looked down at the screen again, stepping to the side as the group conversed with themselves. The words disappeared and changed to the yellow arrow, just like the one that was shown while Sebastian, Ben, and I were at the Haunted Mansion tracking down those two little Dark Anomaly goons and eventually, the Ghost Beast.
Except this time, instead of just pointing in one single direction, the arrow was spinning around and around in a circle. It was spinning so quickly I could hardly keep up with it.
"What do you think, Ava?" Vincent questioned, looking up at me.
Everyone else was silent as I slowly turned around to face them. "I think... it's already here."
The ground beneath our feet began to shake. A loud rumbling noise could be heard all around us as we looked around to see that the buildings in the town were shaking. Flower pots, glasses, candles and tables were falling over from the sudden trembles.
"Is it an earthquake?" Vincent yelped, grabbing onto Jam who was the closest to him.
"Worse," Ben hissed.
"We've got company," Kaitlyn growled, her hands glowing a bright purple. "And not the good kind."
One by one, the buildings behind us came crumbling down as a very familiar patch of black smoke began to take shape at the floor of the rubble. Then a pair of red eyes sprouted from the smoke, flashing brightly in the moonlight like bloody red rubies. Then another, and another, and a dozen more followed.
I gulped nervously, placing a shaking hand on Santiago's shoulder as we all began to slowly back away from the smoke. "Um, guys?"
Each pair of eyes pounced forward, ripping a chunk of the smoke from the pile, and they each took the form of a blood thirsty wolf. They all growled at our presence, getting down low on all fours.
"Run!" Santiago screamed.
He grabbed my wrist and dragged me along with him as the others quickly followed behind. We were running for our very lives, trying not to get caught and possibly eaten alive by these menacing wild animals the Dark Anomalies had created for us this time.
At one point, Jam misplaced his footing and ended up tripping and falling to the ground, taking Vincent down with him. The two boys coughed, shaking their heads as they sat up and turned around to see the wolves coming straight for them.
Ben noticed this as he stopped and turned around to check if the others were catching up. He shot his hands forward, pulsing a bright green as a green shield suddenly covered the two boys, protecting from the attacks of the wolves. He swung his arms out and the green shield exploded, knocking the wolves back. The blonde raced forward, helping Vincent and Jam to their feet.
"Come on!" he yelled, as the three of them ran back regroup with the others.
Once they were near, the rest of the gang continued running, following Santiago through the town as the buildings around them continued to crumble to the ground.
We made it to the other side of the town, entering a clearing. To the side there was a treehouse office station with an African man taking a nap in one of the chairs, his feet up on a small table and his safari hat covering his face. He wore a red plaid shirt with a green jacket over top, light green cargo shorts and sandals. Underneath the treehouse was a big safari tour truck with the back trunk filled with appliances and survival equipment.
"Kili!" Santiago screamed. "Kilamanjaro, wake up!"
The man stirred, jolting awake as he fell from his chair, the table he was using to rest his feet on wobbled from his impact on the floor.
"What's the big idea?" He grumbled, grabbing onto the railing of the treehouse porch to help pull himself up to his feet. Once he was steady and placed his hat on his head, he looked to spot us running towards his truck, and the pack of wolves trailing us. His dark skin turned pale, his eyes widening with fear. "Nini?!"
"Start the truck, Kili!" Santiago shouted. "Kuanza lori!"
"Sawa, sawa, I'm coming!" Kilamanjaro shouted.
He scrambled his way across the patio, climbing down the ladder of the treehouse as the gang and I gained more ground, getting closer towards the truck.
"Anyone without magic boards first!" Ben shouted.
"What ever happened to woman and children, first--- WHOA!" Poppy yelped as Ben used his magic to push herself and the rest of my cousins ahead of the Wizards and I, placing them down right next to the truck as Kilamanjaro neared, assisting them into the vehicle.
Sebastian stuck his hand back, his hand pulsing a bright red as he fired a laser beam from the palm of his hand. "Take this!" He nailed a few good shots, knocking a few of the wolves down as they puffed and evaporated into smoke.
"They're still coming!" I strained as we neared the truck.
"I can slow them down to buy you some time," Kaitlyn suggested, coming to a halt as she slid across the soft dirt beneath her shoes and turned to face the wolves. "Get everyone else into the truck."
"I'll help," Santiago volunteered, stopping just a few feet away, still holding onto my hand. "Our combined power will make our element even stronger."
Kaitlyn nodded in agreement before focusing her attention back to the enemy.
"I'll help too," Sebastian offered, stepping towards her.
"We can handle it, handsome," Kaitlyn assured him. "Get the others to the trucks and make sure they're safe."
Sebastian stood there for a moment, surprised by the sudden compliment coming from the girl. Sure he had feelings for her, and he still did not know whether or not she still had feelings for him, even after their so called dinner date all that time ago, but for her to say that to him, especially in a situation like this, seemed a bit odd to him. Nether the less, he nodded firmly before backing away and running back towards the truck to assist Kilamanjaro.
Purple sparks of light circled Kaitlyn's hands as she waved them in the air, creating a huge gust of wind in front of the wolves, in an effort to push them back. The dark wolves struggled, pushing their bodies against the harsh wind, but they were slowly prevailing.
"Anytime now, Chile," Kaitlyn grunted.
"Oh come on, you too?" Santiago whined as he shook it off, looking back over at me. The expression in his eyes looked serious as his grip on my hand tightened. "Ava, get to the truck, I'll be right back."
"I can't just leave you and Kaitlyn behind, what if you guys get hurt? I could heal you!" Ava stuttered, trying to reason with him.
"I'm not risking you getting hurt again," Santiago replied, his eyes narrowing sternly. "Not after what happened with Vader."
He suddenly leaned forward and out of nowhere, kissed me. It was brief, considering the situation we got ourselves into, but it still left me in a daze when he released me, cupping my face with his hands.
"Go,"
I nodded, stepping away from him slowly before making a break for it across the clearing and towards the truck, Sebastian assisting me inside of the vehicle. I sat in the back row with Vincent and Ben, just behind Jam, Poppy and Ty before the British boy piled in behind me, shutting the door.
All eyes were on Kaitlyn and Santiago, the Illusionist Magic Wizards of our group.
Technically each team of Wizards are only allowed to have 4 members per group, but I guess you could say Kaitlyn is a acceptation to that rule, considering she was suppose to replace Santiago before Sebastian brought him back.
Santiago activated his magic as he too summoned a gust of wind along with Kaitlyn's using it to push the wolves back. In the background I could hear Kilamanjaro struggling to start the truck, muttering something in his native language. But we weren't really focusing on that right now.
The wolves were starting to struggle a little, occasionally faltering back from the wind. But they just kept on coming! They pushed against the wind with all of their might, their red eyes pulsing in the moonlight.
"Should we do it?" Santiago spoke up, suggesting something.
"This doesn't seem to be working all too well," Kaitlyn replied. "What do we have to lose?"
"Ben, you're the expert on all of the maneuvers and stuff," I said, not taking my eyes off of the fight. "What are they talking about?"
Without taking their eyes off of the wolves, the two Illusionists reached over and held hands. Upon contacted, their was a sudden spark of light as a purple aura pulsed around their joined hands. The aura expanded, covering their bodies as their hair blew in the wind and their eyes suddenly began to glow.
"When two Wizards who possess the same magical element come together, their combined power creates an energy boost which helps make their magic become stronger," Ben explained.
"It's kind of like when Goku and Vegeta fuse together in Dragon Ball Z." Sebastian elaborated.
We all watched as Santiago and Kaitlyn flexed their fingers out, and the winds they created grew more intense. So much so that the gulfs literally picked up the smoke made wolves and began spinning them all around in a circle.
That's when I realized; They were creating a tornado!
The giant whirlwind hurdled the wolves into the air, following the motions of the Illusionists hands which was synchronized to a T. Then they crouched down to their knees, slamming their free hands on the ground. The wolves were forced down and with a loud "BAM" they crashed to the ground. The force of the impact formed a crater, where the wolves began to vanish one by one.
Everyone inside the trucks began to cheer in celebration. The two Illusionists nodded, smiling in satisfaction with their victory as they let go of each other's hands. Their energy boost dispersed, their hair seizing it's flowing nature as the two of them jogged towards the truck.
Just as Kilamanjaro started the truck, the celebrations seized.
"So, the Dark Anomalies are gone now, right?" Vincent asked, sounding hopeful.
"Guess all there is left to is to tell Simba that there's nothing to worry about." Ty shrugged.
However the middle cousin may have spoken a little too soon. There was a sudden howl, echoing across the night sky. Everyone froze, including Santiago and Kaitlyn who slowly turned around to look at the crater.
Jam reached over, grabbing the collar of his brothers shirt and shook him senselessly. "You jinxed it!"
The wolves began dog piling on each other, the smoke soaring up into the air as the cloud grew bigger and bigger, out growing it's hole. It grew four large legs and paws, a long tail and a slick nuzzle and sharp, pointy ears. To top it all off, a big pair of, not red, but yellow glowing eyes.
"DIE!" It barked.
