Chapter 27 - Just A Few Simple Rules
"Kanan!"
A voice cried out followed by running footsteps as Ezra barged into cargo hold, appearing up on the catwalk, pushing his body against the railing to look down.
"Everyone o---"
He froze, his voice coming to a halt as his eyes looked upon the the new Wizard present with his friends.
"--kay?"
The black haired boy smiled nervously at the Padawan. "Hey Ezra."
"S... Santiago?" Ezra spoke slowly as he made his way down the ladder, just as the rest of the crew entered the room. The boy touched down, taking a couple steps forward as he looked at the boy, a set of mixed emotions on his face. "Is that really you?"
"Yeah," he replied. "It's me."
For Santiago, it was great to see his Disney guardian again. It felt like forever since he last saw him. Well, in a matter of speaking. He and Avalyn watched Rebels all the time on Disney XD.
"Y-Y-You came back." Ezra slowly smiled, his eyes widening.
"Well," Santiago shrugged, looking over at Sebastian. "I had a little help."
"Of all of the things I've witnessed in this world," Kanan coughed as Ben helped the Jedi to his feet. "I think this one takes the cake."
The Chilean boy chuckled at the remark as he looked over, catching the ginger haired girl staring at him. "It's been a while Kaitlyn. You doing okay?"
"I've... managed." She answered slowly.
There was short, awkward silence in the room as Santiago returned his gaze back to his lover, examining her neck as he stroked it gently.
Several bruises were beginning to form, violent effects from Darth Vader's choke hold. He swore to himself that he would get revenge on Darth Vader for what he did to her, and the Dark Anomalies as well, for granting the Sith Lord the power to attack his friends.
"We need to get you all to medical attention," Hera stated. "We'll be back Earth soon."
"I've already made contact with Star Command to pick you all up." Sabine added.
"No, bad idea!" Kaitlyn suddenly sprang up. "Can't we just have Ava heal us, and herself?"
"She is in no condition to even move, let alone heal us," Ben explained. "And even if she wanted to, her healing magic doesn't work on herself. It doesn't work like that."
"Sounds a little selfish to me," Zeb commented.
"Exactly." Ben nodded in agreement.
"When what do you suggest? Go back to Star Command where Santiago is out in the open?!" Kaitlyn snapped. "Seb, you just brought him back! Once we touch down, the Council is just going to send him right on back, and you could get into some serious trouble!"
"Well it seemed like a good idea at the time!" Sebastian quickly defended, setting Kanan down on the bench next to the couple.
"Well, it wasn't," She quickly retorted, crossing her arms. "What was the point in even taking that mirror anyway?"
"Hey, if I hadn't taken it, who knows where we would be right now!" Sebastian yelled. "For all we know, Avalyn could have died--!"
There was a sudden flash of light as the pair looked over to see a giant image of a purple lion's face. It roared loudly, scaring the two of them as Kaitlyn jumped right into Sebastian's arms. The ginger haired girl quivered as she buried her face into Sebastian's chest, as the boy held onto her tightly on instinct.
The lion's head vanished, revealing Santiago sitting up straight, his free right hand glowing a bright purple, a stern look on his face. "Alright, that's enough!"
Sebastian stared at the Illusionist with shock as he gently set Kaitlyn back down on her feet, releasing her from his embrace. "You okay?"
"Um... yeah," She sniffled, taking a deep breath.
The ship jolted suddenly, the motions going slower by the second.
"We made it out of light speed, I'll take us to Star Command," Hera spoke up, waving over Sabine. "Help me out?"
"Sure," The Mandalorein nodded.
The two of them left the room as Zeb began to make his way down the latter.
"None of that stuff matters," Santiago began, looking back at the others as if he ignored the girls announcement. "What matters is that Avalyn and you guys are still alive. Sebastian may have activated the portal, but I choose to step into this world. I could have ignored his call, but I didn't. Since it was my choice, I'll be the one taking the punishment. Besides, I'm expelled, remember?"
"But there has been something we can do," Ezra stepped in. "Make the Council reconsider?"
"The Wizard Council isn't easily persuaded, Ezra," Santiago sulked. "But either way, we'll present our case and I'll accept any punishment they give me."
Before he could continue any further, a new sound alerted the group. I mumbled a few groans as I slowly squirmed in my slumber, my eyes twitching.
"She's starting to come to..." Ben cautioned.
"Should we disguise you?" Kaitlyn suggested, looking up at the Chilean. "I could make you invisible? Turn you into a droid?"
The ship jolted again as a static voice spoke over Zeb's communicator. "Roger that," he replied, walking over to the side lever as he pulled on it, and the cargo door began to open. "We're here. Brace yourselves, cause the sick-bay is waiting right outside for you guys."
There was a short silence in the air. Once all four of them would be spotted together, they'd get busted. The Chilean didn't want to cause so much trouble for his team. It was decided then.
Santiago looked up, shaking his head at the girl. "No. I already lied to her about this once before, I'm not doing that again. From now on, no more secrets."
The rest of the Wizards glanced at each other with uncertainty in their eyes, but they eventually caved in, all three of them nodded in agreement. Santiago nodded in confirmation before focusing his attention back on me, gently caressing my face as I slowly began to open my eyes.
The medical team moved in, taking me from Santiago's arms as they placed me down on a medical bed and wheeled me away.
Just as the rest of the team were making their way off of the ship, a group of Space Rangers stood in their path, armed with blasters in their hands.
"What the?" Ben yelped.
"Hey what gives?!" Sebastian asked with confusion.
His answer was a loud, raspy, bellowing laugh. The two Rangers in the middle stepped to the side as they allowed a large figure to step forward. This Disney character was a large, overweight cat with pointy ears. He had black eyes, and wore his red, blue, and purple Kingdom Hearts uniform. He was also smoking a cigar.
"That's far enough there, Wizards," He marked, puffing smoke out of his mouth.
"Pete?!" Kaitlyn exclaimed.
"That's Captain Pete to you." He snarled in reply.
"Why are you doing this?" Ben asked. "Why can't we go check on Ava?"
"Guys?" A female voice called.
The group turned around to see Sabine run out of the Ghost, coming to halt when she saw Pete and the line of Space Rangers before them.
"Sabine?" Sebastian spoke with confusion.
"I'm sorry guys," She apologized, her face sulking. "They were waiting for you guys here when Hera and I called in."
"What is this about, Pete?" Kaitlyn asked the cat as she and the others turned back around to face the Captain.
"Two things, actually. Number one; Princess Belle has reported that the Magic Mirror was stolen from her castle, and Prince Adam, after a brief interrogation traced the source back to you, Mr. Harris," Pete began, pointing a finger at the British Boy.
"My intentions were true, Pete!" Sebastian quickly defended, stepping forward.
"Oh they were true alright," Pete growled as he shoved Sebastian to the side and grabbed Santiago by the front of his hoodie. "To bring forth a banished Wizard!"
"Let me go!" The Chilean yelped with a cough.
"If Sebastian didn't summon him, the Chosen One would be dead by now!" Ben protested.
"Us, included!" Kaitlyn quickly added.
"Dang kids," Pete commented. "Just be lucky the Council was kind enough to give the both of you a trail."
"Both of us?" Ben repeated. "Trail?!"
"Sebastian is charged with theft, and Santiago is charged with trespassing, considering his current extermination from your ranks." Pete explained.
"Put Santiago down, Pete!" Ezra ordered as he stepped off from the ship.
"You can't tell me what to do Padawan." Pete growled.
"Do what he says," Kanan commanded as he limped over next to his apprentice. "Now."
Pete huffed, releasing his grip on Santiago as the boy dropped to the floor. Ben and Sebastian helped him up to his feet, adjusting his hoodie.
"This could be a good thing," Sebastian whispered. "Think about it. If we do this trail, we might be able to convince the Wizard Council to let you stay."
"Do you really think that would work?" Ben asked.
"It's worth a try," Sebastian answered before looking back over at the dark haired boy. "We need you Santiago. We need your help in fighting the Dark Anomalies."
Santiago exchanged glances between his two friends before he nodded firmly, stepping forward as he looked at Pete, staring at him square in the eye.
"Alright, Captain, we'll have our trail."
******
My vision faded in and out. Every time I opened my eyes, I could see that I was moving. The pattern of the green ceiling above me was moving forward... or backwards, I wasn't sure.
I felt a warm feeling on my cheek. It felt nice, calming, and safe.
I could hear voices too. Some of them I recognized.
Ben, Sebastian, and Kaitlyn...
And there was one other voice. I knew that voice. it sounded masculine, and so familiar and warm. It just on the tip of my tongue.
Everything went black again after that.
I slowly opened my eyes again. I was in a different room now. The ceiling and walls were white. I saw a vase of flowers standing on a bedside counter to my left, a IV drop just to the side of it.
Wait, was I in a hospital?
My eyes opened wider as I scanned the room, and when I looked over to my right, I nearly jumped.
There was an old man sitting on a chair near my bedside. He had light blue eyes, wrinkled skin, and a long grey beard. He wore the sorcerer hat on his head, and he wore a dark blue robe with brown shoes.
"Please, do not be alarmed," He cautioned.
I slowed my breathing, calming myself down as I sank back down into my pillow. How long was I asleep for? Was he watching me?
"Do you know who I am?" He asked me.
How could I not?
"Your... Your Yensid." I answered.
He nodded his head for confirmation. "I am also the head of the Disney Wizard's Council."
The door to my hospital room opened suddenly as a penguin waltzed in. You know, the ones from Mary Poppins? Anyways, this one was wearing a nurse outfit as he brought over a tray of food, setting it gently on the lap of the elder.
"Pardon me, I haven't had my lunch yet," He apologized, setting up the utensils. "You don't mind, do you?"
I took a look at the food that was on the tray. There was a bowl of filled with a combination of beans and chili, with a glass of milk beside it.
A very interesting choice of appetite.
After a moment, I shook my head. "Not at all."
He nodded over to the penguin who bowed in respect before trotting out of the room.
As Yensid began to eat his meal, I raised my hand over to my neck. It felt hard, like there was a bruise on it.
"Careful now," he advised. "That's just starting to heal."
I lowered my hand, taking one more look around the room. There was some very important people missing.
"Where are my friends?" I asked him.
"Your friends, or fellow Wizrds, are safe," Yensid assured. "All four of them."
That number caught me by surprise. There was five of us in total. Me, Ben, Sebastian, and Kaitlyn. Who could the other one be?
"Four?" I repeated.
"Oh yes, I suppose you didn't witness it after you fell unconscious," he realized. "It seems that the Illusionist has returned."
My eyes widened as a gasp escaped my lips. The original Illusionist of Ben and Sebastian's team was back? After all this time?
"He has?" I asked, sounding hopeful.
"Yes, in fact, he saved you from Darth Vader," Yensid explained. "If it wasn't for him, you wouldn't be here right now."
The thought of possibly dying from the Sith Lord was so terrifying. He must have been the one that put those bruises on my neck, from choking me so hard. I formed my hand into a tight fist. I'm so looking forward to getting payback on him. Especially since it seemed like his connection to the Dark Anomalies was most likely gone if he and the others were defeated.
"Where are they now?" I asked, speaking up.
"They are waiting for you outside." Yensid answered.
"Even the Illusionist?" I questioned. "Can I meet him?"
Yensid stopped eating his meal after hearing that. He seemed to tense a little bit as he put his fork down, cleaning his mouth with a napkin.
"You can, however," he began. "There's some information that you should know, and some you should discover once you see him."
I raised a brow at the man, a little confused. "Okay?"
"First of all, Sebastian has been charged for stealing the Magic Mirror from Belle's Castle in New Fantasyland. Secondly, the Illusionist has been tried for trespassing, keeping his expulsion in mind," He continued. "However, considering our current situation with the Dark Anomalies, and some valid points presented by Sebastian and Benjamin, the Council has decided that he may return to the Disney Wizards."
My face perked up wildly after hearing that. "Really? That's great!"
"On the condition," He quickly added, raising his hand to silence me. "That he only stay until the Dark Anomalies are defeated. After that, he must respect his expulsion, and once again leave the World of Disney, forever."
My face fell into a depressed look after hearing that as I sank back into my pillow.
"But now it is time for you to discover the remaining information," Yensid proclaimed. "Something that has been locked away for your safety."
"My safety?" I repeated.
Yensid waved his hand, and the IV drop vanished into thin air as the blanket covering me moved back, allowing me to sit up and move away from the bed. I walked around it, stepping towards Yensid as he motioned towards the door.
"Proceed delicately," He advised. "You may or may not like what you see."
I examined the man carefully as I finally looked over at the door, turning the doorknob as I felt my hospital room. Once I stepped out into the hallway, I found the waiting area where my friends were waiting for me.
Ben, Sebastian, and Kaitlyn were all there.
The three of them looked up, smiles of relief forming on their faces as they sprang up and ran over towards me. I mentally blocked out the sounds of their relief as I focused on one figure in particular.
The Illusionist was the last to stand up from the group of chairs. He had his back turned from me, but as he slowly turned around, I could feel the expression on my face changing with every second that went by.
When I finally saw him, I couldn't believe my eyes as a flood of very mixed emotions washed over me.
"...Hey Princess," He greeted with a small smile, stepping towards me.
Santiago...
Some emotions being more negative than others.
My mouth gaped open slightly at the sight of my boyfriend. There he was, right in front of me! A small part of me was happy to see him. But it wasn't until I put two and two together. All of those times that he said he had never been to the Disney parks, and then the phone call I had with him in my hotel room...
My eyes began to water as my face started to heat up.
He could sense my new found emotions as he raised his hand towards me. "Ava, I can explai---"
I knocked his hand away from me. "You lied to me!"
The area around us fell into a awkward silence. Santiago's face seemed blank, like he had a feeling I would react this way towards me. Although there was still a small hint of fear and despair in his eyes.
"For all this time, our entire relationship, maybe for the entire time we've ever known each other," I spoke slowly, my eyes burning. "You lied to me. You lied right to my face."
"Avalyn, please, just let me..." Santiago spoke calmly.
"No!" I shouted. "I need," I lowered the volume of my voice as I slowly turned around to face the rest of the team. They all had saddened looks on their faces. "I need some time to myself. Excuse me..."
I made my way through them as I proceeded down the hallway, the rest of the group watching me leave. I just needed to get away and process all of this. Besides, my parents and family must be worried sick about me.
"Avalyn," Santiago spoke softly. "I'm so sorry I kept this from you..."
