Chapter 24 - Alien Heart
Buzz Lightyear was in no condition to fight. After getting his jet pack fried by Agent Z, the fall knocked him unconscious and he stayed that way until Sebastian, Ben, and Kaitlyn took him to a near by hospital in Tomorrowland.
Well, what was left of it anyway.
"This is insane," Ben tensed as he looked out the window of Buzz's hospital room, "Over half of Tomorrowland was destroyed because of Zurg's stupid drones."
"Looks like the Dark Anomalies isn't the only thing we should be worrying about..." Kaitlyn spoke, slouching in her chair that was placed across from the hospital bed.
"Tell me about it. At this rate, those things could possibly almost just as powerful as those Anomalies," Sebastian pondered, standing near the Space Ranger's body.
"Those pathetic excuses for machines? Ha!" Kaitlyn chuckled, flicking her ginger hair away from her face.
"She has a point." Ben shrugged, glancing at his friend.
Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of a quiet moan. They all turned their attention to Buzz Lightyear as he slowly flickered his eyes open, the lights of the room temporary blinding him as he placed a hand over his forehead.
"Are you alright Buzz?" Sebastian spoke quickly, his voice filled with worry.
"Ack, my head is killing me," Buzz groaned, rubbing the back of his head. "What happened?"
"You took a nasty hit to the head after Agent Z took out your jet pack with his laser," Kaitlyn explained, sitting up from her chair as she walked over with her arms crossed. "You're lucky you didn't get a concussion."
"I've been through worse," Buzz assured, taking a look around the room. "Hey, where's The Chosen One?"
Sebastian and Ben glanced over at each other with sorrowful looks, Kaitlyn lowering her gaze to the floor.
"Where is she?" Buzz repeated, raising a brow.
"...Agent Z kidnapped her." Ben answered.
"What?!" Buzz exclaimed, sitting up so quickly, his back cracked. He winced from the pain as Kaitlyn jogged over, gently pushing him back into bed. "Then why are you standing around here and not looking for her?"
"We will. We already have an idea of where he's taken her." Ben explained.
"But did you honestly expected us to just leave you there?" Sebastian added. "That's no way to treat my Disney Guardian."
Buzz's eyes widened slightly after hearing that, giving the boy a small smile. "Thank you Sebastian, that's very kind of you. All of you," He thanked as the ginger haired girl propped his pillow. "But one of the civilians in the shelter would have brought me here eventually."
"No excuses Buzz. No man left behind!" Sebastian proclaimed.
Before Buzz could speak any further, a new voice caught everyone's attention.
"Buzz! BUZZ!"
A Disney Character charged into the room, everyone turning to face the door. He was wearing a cowboy hat, with brown hair and matching eyes, wore a cowboy costume with a yellow plaid shirt, a vest with a sheriff badge, jeans, and cowboy boots. And instead of his usual 3-D design, he looked 2-D.
"Woody!" Buzz greeted with a smile.
"Buzz!" The cowboy exclaimed as he ran over to his friend, coming to his bedside. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. What are you doing here?" Buzz asked with surprised.
"I gave him a call. I figured he would be worried sick about his best friend." Kaitlyn grinned, twirling her communicator in her hand.
"She's got you there, cowboy." Buzz teased.
"I'm just to see that you're safe and sound buddy." Woody smiled, tipping his hat to the Space Ranger.
The three Wizards smiled at the two of them. It was good to see the pair reunited after a long period of time. Buzz had been so busy helping out at Star Command in searching for the Dark Anomalies, he's hardly had anytime to spend it with his close friends and family.
After a few moments, Sebastian clapped his hands together, catching everyone's attention. "Now that Woody is here, we should be off."
"You're leaving already?" Woody asked them, seeming puzzled.
"They're one member short, Woody," Buzz explained. "Avalyn Macth has been kidnapped by Zurg."
Woody gasped, his eyes widening as he grabbed the sides of his hat, pulling them down to cover his cheeks. "The Chosen One?! What if Mickey finds out?!"
"He won't." Kaitlyn answered bluntly.
That seemed to catch everyone's attention, the two male Wizards even more.
"What do you mean by that?" Ben asked her.
"Kaitlyn, you did cal Mickey to alert him on Ava's situation, right?" Sebastian reminded, placing his hands on his hips.
"You two are stirring enough trouble as it is with the Mouse. As far as he is concerned, we're going after Zurg to arrest him and bring him in for attacking Tomorrowland. If we keep quiet about her kidnapping, he'll just assume that she's been with us the entire time, and none will be the wiser." She explained.
"Are you insane?!" Sebastian yelped.
Kaitlyn shushed the boy, bringing her hand up to cover his mouth. "Calm down will you?"
"No, I will not!" Sebastian spoke, his voice muffled from her hand.
"Kaitlyn, why would you not call it in?" Ben asked her, pulling her hand gently away from his friend's mouth.
"This is the second time your precious Chosen One has been captured by an Evil Force. Do you want her to look stupid and weak in front of Mickey Mouse and the Wizard Council?" Kaitlyn questioned.
"It's weak to tell a lie." Ben stated.
"It's not lying if you don't say anything." She countered.
"Where are you going with this?" Buzz asked the ginger haired girl.
"I don't get it either," Sebastian shook his head before looking her straight into her ivy green eyes. "Why are you doing this?"
"She's the Chosen One right? We can't have anyone thinking less of her if news keeps getting out of her getting caught by the enemy all the time," Kaitlyn answered, waving her hand as she walked towards the door. "Come on, let's go find her."
The two boys watched her leave the room, completely stunned by her words.
"Did she really just... say that?" Sebastian mumbled.
"You two better go after her," Woody spoke up, catching their attention. "She's not going to be able to find her on her own."
The two boys glanced back at each other, and with looks of determination, they quickly left the room, jogging after their teammate.
*******
With Buzz awake and well, the three remaining Wizards ventured off into the vast unknown of Space, flying a Star Command Cruiser to a purple, crater filled planet.
"And you're sure we'll find her here?" Kaitlyn asked, raising a brow at the boys.
"It's the only place I can think of, after Zurg's main Headquarters was destroyed a few months ago." Sebastian shrugged.
Kaitlyn carefully guided the ship towards the small planet, landing it near a cliff side. The three Wizards walked down the exit ramp, their footsteps forming prints on the soil of the planet. They each wore their own space suits, matching the colour scheme of their magic power. Each came with the generic white, but Kaitlyn's had purple stripes, Ben had green, and Sebastian had red.
"Look, all I'm saying is that we've search this entire quadrant of space to find her," Kaitlyn grumbled, raising her hands in the air as she turned to face the boys. "And what do we find? A lot of nothing!"
Suddenly a puff of black smoke shot up into the air, taking the form of a giant worm like monster. It had a beak like mouth with sharp teeth, its skin was scaly, and it had two mantis like claws. The boys eyes widened at the sight as the monster screeched, making Kaitlyn flinch.
She gulped, pointing her thumb backwards. "There's something big behind me isn't there?"
The monster lunged forward, its beak filled with black smoke as it opened wide.
"It's a Crater Viper!" Ben exclaimed.
Sebastian was the first to react as Ben quickly followed behind, grabbing Kaitlyn and tackling her as the three of them soared out of the way of the attacker, the three of them tumbling down a steep hill.
"Give me a better warning next time..." Kaitlyn hissed.
"Sorry," Sebastian apologized, helping her up. "I was in a hurry!"
"Uh, guys?" Ben spoke up.
More of the Vipers appeared from the ground, erupting from the black smoke below. The three Wizards got into the defensive, forming a small circle as each of their hands glowed to their significant magic colour.
"I thought Buzz and the guy formally known as Warp took out these things during their last mission?" Sebastian spoke with confusion.
"Try telling them that!" Kaitlyn replied, raising her voice.
The Vipers moved in on the attack, the three Wizards retaliating with their own maneuvers. Sebastian used his Attack Magic to fire lasers into the Vipers mouths, while Ben used his Defensive Magic to form a shield and whacked the surrounding Vipers in the head, and Kaitlyn used her Illusion magic to create her own smaller group of Crater Vipers to attack the real, big ones.
"Looks like this place isn't as deserted as we thought." Ben commented.
"Give me a second," Kaitlyn grinned, using her powers as she summoned more of the small Vipers and chucked them at a incoming opponent. "It will be."
Two of them began to surround Ben like a snake. He used his shield to protect himself and when they got way to close for comfort, Ben let'em have it by whamming them right in their noses. The two Vipers screeched, backing away. But just as he was making a break for it, another one swooped in and grabbed him with its claws, lifting him up into the air.
As he struggled to break free, he spotted Kaitlyn fighting a mob of them. She took out one by one, but he noticed one more trying to sneak up on her from behind. He concentrated, and with a quick and powerful flex of his arms, he formed two giant green walls and broke the claws off the body of the Crater Vipor, setting him free.
It whaled in pain as he summoned a green platform under his feet, using to fly quicker than his levitation ball. He swooped down towards Kaitlyn, gliding on his feet as he steered toward her, and whacked the sneaking Viper away from her.
The ginger haired girl turned around, heavily breathing in and out as her eyes widened at the sight.
"Wow, thanks..." She puffed.
"You guys okay?" Sebastian called, running towards the pair.
"Yeah, we're good." Kaitlyn nodded, bending her knees slightly as she rested her hands on her legs.
"Was it just me," Ben spoke up, taking a look around the carnage. "Or did that black smoke look familiar to you?"
Then suddenly. instead of burying their way back into the ground, the Crater Vipers just sank, melting into smoke before vanishing from human eyes.
"You're not thinking that I think you're thinking, right?" Sebastian questioned.
"What? You think the Dark Anomalies are behind this?" Kaitlyn asked, something a bit intrigued as she stood up.
"It makes sense. Nebula did mention that there's been Dark Anomaly activity out here recently." Ben answered.
"But last I checked, they weren't anywhere near a purple dead planet." Sebastian added.
"True, but there's only one way to find out for sure." Ben stated.
"So where to now, Ace?" Kaitlyn asked.
"This way," Ben pointed, indicating a nearby ridge. "Follow me."
*******
I slowly opened my eyes to find myself floating inside some sort of green liquid.
The last thing I remembered was getting punched in the face by Agent Z. I could vaguely make out the voices of Ben and Sebastian calling out to me before I blacked out.
Yes... I remember now!
Tomorrowland was attacked by Emperor Zurg's robots! But why? It seemed like the invasion happened out of nowhere. What was his motive?
Unless, the attack wasn't random at all, was it?
And then suddenly, it hit me. Well, actually, more like it shocked me.
Out of nowhere this giant zap of pain coursed through my body. I yelped from it as bubbles sprung from the bottom of the giant tube cell I was locked in, and every time one of the bubbles phased through me, I received a painful shock.
It was me.
Zurg sent Agent Z to come after me.
But why?
Then suddenly, an irritating noise echoed in my ears. Like someone's finger nails was clawing on a blackboard. That's when I noticed cracks being formed in the glass of my tube like prison. The glass gave way, and the next thing I knew, I was pulled out of the tube, collapsing to the floor along with the green liquid. I coughed, spitting some of it out of my mouth. My clothes were wet, my hair was a mess, and I could feel the rough bruise that Agent Z felt on my face.
But before I could react anymore, I felt a metal hand wrap itself around my neck, lifting me up into the air, my feet just barely dangling above the floor. I grabbed onto the metal hand, trying to squirm myself free.
And that's when I saw him.
Evil Emperor Zurg!
With his free hand, he summoned a strange orb onto the tip of his finger. He slowly brought it down, touching my forehead as I felt a terrible shock course through me. I screamed from the main, shutting my eyes as his menacing laugh filled the room.
"S-S-Stop it!" I yelped.
"And why would I do that?" Zurg teased, shocking me once more.
"W-W-Whatever it is, you c-c-can't make me t-talk!" I stuttered.
"Oh I don't intend on making you talk, girl, I intend on making you scream." He chuckled evilly.
He tossed me done, making me land face first onto the floor. My body ached, I was wet, I felt cold, and I could barely harness the energy to push myself up from the floor.
"I intend to crush you and your fellow Wizards who assisted Buzz Lightyear into destroying my headquarters!" he proclaimed.
"I had... n-n-nothing to do w-w-with t-t-that!" I spat.
"Maybe so," he spoke, moving around me as he bent down, cupping my chin. "But your very presence with Lightyear infuriates me. You all shall pay with endless suffering."
"My f-f-f-friends will c-c-come looking for m-me," I whimpered, glaring at the robotic man. "You'll b-b-be s-sorry."
"Sorry, what was that? I can't hear you when you whimper." Zurg mocked as he flicked his hand aside, releasing me as I collapsed back to the floor.
"Uh, Emperor Zurg, sir?" One of the scientists spoke up nervously. "Uh, the machine wasn't powerful enough to extract her, uh, magic, sir..."
"What?!" He erupted, the scientist shaking like a leaf.
"It just can't be done sir! We've never done anything like this!" The scientist explained before fleeing for his life.
Zurg huffed, turning back around to face me with his glowing, red eyes. "Alright, then I suppose it's back to good old fashion torture," he pointed a metal finger at me, summoning the shock orb again. "For you and your friends when they arrive."
I gasped upon hearing those words. He was using me as bait! This was a trap all along! I jumped, sitting on my but as I tried to call away from him, but my hand slipped, and I collapsed again. Zurg laughed at my attempt of escape.
"It's no use Chosen One, there's no escape from me," He then whistled, snapping his fingers. "Where's my torture robot?!"
A side door opened and a giant red robot with needles and other various torture tools that were attached to him entered. My eyes widened with fear at the sight.
But before it could do anything, a red laser came flying out of nowhere, striking the robot and blowing it up. When I turned around to see where the blast I come from, I smiled at the sight of Ben and Sebastian charging into the room, gliding down the entrance ramp and front flipping to the floor, arming themselves with their magic.
"End of the line Zurg!" Sebastian proclaimed.
"Ah, Sebastian Harris. It is good to set eyes on you again," Zurg greeted, glancing at the blonde. "And I see you brought your friend here as well."
"The feeling is not mutual." Ben replied.
"Let our friend go. Surrender her to us and we'll bring you in quietly. No muss, no fuss." Sebastian ordered.
"Hmm," Zurg tapped his chin, "An interesting proposal, but I have a better idea."
Up on the balcony, the doors opened to reveal Agent Z walked in, carrying a female on his shoulder. He released her, dropping the ginger haired girl to the floor. But not before grabbing her hair, and sitting her up to her knees.
"Looking for someone?" He mocked.
"Kaitlyn?" I looked up with surprise as the two boys had equal expressions on their faces.
"Instead, if you two surrender to me, I'll let that girl go free." Zurg gambled.
"We don't negotiate with the likes of you." Ben growled.
"Oh, really?" Zurg raised a metal brow at the boy.
"Catch!" Agent Z called as he picked up Kaitlyn and tossed her over the balcony!
"KAITLYN!" Sebastian cried. He raced forward, sliding down as he just caught the girl in his arms. Ben quickly took the time to come to my aid, helping me up to my feet as he put my right arm around his neck for support.
"You caught her, ergo, the deal is done. Guards!" Zurg yelled.
A squadron of Zurg's robots entered the room, surrounding the four of us as they aimed their weapons in our direction. Then the tube cell lowered into the floor as a platform hovered down from the ceiling. Zurg made his way over to it, standing on top of it as he waved his hand dramatically.
"Take these four to the dungeon!"
The platform moved up and Zurg vanished from the room. But right as that happened, the roof exploded in a violent fury. Pieces of the roof and walls came tumbling down. Some of them even destroyed the robots that surrounded us. As the four of us tried to find cover, a few pieces were heading straight for us!
"Look out!" Kaitlyn yelped.
And then, without a second thought, Ben and Sebastian tossed both me and Kaitlyn out of their arms before the blonde summoned a force field on top of him and Sebastian, right before the pieces of the roof collapsed on top of them.
"NO!" I screamed.
Then a strange humming noise caught our attention as we turned our attention back to the roof. Only, it wasn't there.
The roof was just, gone. There was nothing but the sky and blackness of space, with stars shining in the distance.
But there was also something else. Two things actually.
First off, the shadow of a large space ship could be seen flying over top of the base. It was still a long ways away, but it was close enough to be seen.
I had seen that ship before, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Secondly, black smoke came down from the newly made hole in the roof. I trailed down the sides, spewing all over the computer consoles, making them go all hay-wire.
And then, this happened.
"Self destruct in 60 seconds."
"60 seconds?!" Kaitlyn and I shouted, looking at each other.
Then a green light shined down on me. It wasn't Ben's Defensive Magic. No, this felt completely different than that. I was then being tugged upward, being pulled up towards the space ship.
"Avalyn!" Kaitlyn jumped up, grabbing my hand as she tried to pull me down.
However this, tractor beam, was too strong for her. It actually ended up bringing her into it too.
Now both of us were being carried away from the base, and up towards the ship. And it wasn't until we were outside that I got a good look at our kidnappers. I gasped upon seeing the ship, and while the geek in me would have died with excitement, I was no feeling scared.
It was a Imperial Warship.
******
Ben was desperately using all of his strength to keep the force field up. In order to even use it, he had to push Avalyn out of the way of the falling concrete. He supposed that Sebastian had the same idea, pushing Kaitlyn out of the way, should his friend need assistance.
"I can't hold it for much longer. There's too many of them!" Ben groaned, shutting his eyes tight as he concentrated.
"Ben, look!" Sebastian spoke up, pointing at something.
One by one, the two boys watched through the shield as pieces of the falling roof were being sliced in half or levitated to the side. Then an opening took form, the two boys saw two figures staring at them.
One was a teenage boy, around the same age as them, if not slightly younger. He had medium length blue hair, with brown eyes, tanned skin, wore a orange jumpsuit with green finger-less gloves, a white armour cover up on his right leg, and green boots.
The second figure was a adult male. He had short brown hair in a pony tail with matching eyes, wore a green jacket with a black armour shoulder pad on his right side, grey pants with a pistol pouch, and black boots.
The both of them, were also holding blue lightsabers.
"Is that...?!" Sebastian spoke in awe.
"Hurry, this place is about to blow!" Ezra shouted.
"We have a ship outside waiting for us, let's go!" Kanan waved.
Sebastian and Ben looked at each other, nodding in agreement. At the right moment, Ben deactivated the shield and the two of them jumped out of the way of the concrete blocks that were surrounding them. The whole building was shaking as a computer voice was counting down backwards.
"35, 34, 33, 32, 31, 30..."
During the counter, they both glanced around for any sign of the girls, but they didn't see them.
"Where did they go?" Ben spoke up.
"No time to waste, we have to go! Now!" Kanan stated, grabbing both of them by the shoulders as the four of them made a break for it out of the torture chamber.
They ran through the halls of the base, and back out of the way they came. Just like Kanan said, a ship was waiting for them. It was The Ghost.
Zeb and Sabine could be seen on the catwalk, watching and waving at them to hurry.
"Come on!" Zeb roared.
"10, 9, 8,..."
"Hera, get us out of here!" Ezra yelled as he and the others ran into the ship, Sabine bringing up the catwalk.
"Roger that!" a female voice shouted.
Within moments, the two boys felt the The Ghost hover up and take off into the air. The sound of a muffled explosion could be heard from outside, and it was then they knew that Zurg's base was destroyed.
And possibly, the girls.
