Chapter 23 - To Infinity & Beyond
Zurg emerged into the laboratory of his temporary base. Oh, how he loathed Buzz Lightyear and his miserable Space Rangers for destroying his headquarters all those months ago. They've done so much damage to it that it's not even close to being fully repaired! Even his most trusted and loyal henchman, Agent Z, sustained serious damage.
He wanted revenge on the Lightyear, and the Disney Wizard who fought along side the Space Ranger. No, he wanted revenge for anyone who was involved. He didn't care what he had to do, he just wanted to get the job done.
He was tired of waiting around. It was now time to strike.
He sighed with annoyance as he entered the lab, one his robotic scientists instantly greeting him as he stuttered to speak.
"How is Agent Z?"
"We are arming him now, Emperor Zurg!" The scientist spoke with assurance, clapping his claws together.
"What about the flame thrower, is it repaired? We don't want a repeat of what happened last time." Zurg stated as he and the scientist drew near to Agent Z's medical slab.
"Of course, of course, sir! It's fully---" Before he could speak more, the said weapon activated, knocking off one of the little beetle like bug alien men who were repairing Agent Z. "---operational."
"His reflects are fine." The other alien pointed out, taking off his protective mask.
The 1st alien coughed, pushing himself up from the floor as smoke puffed from his mouth. "Not bad..." He spoke, before collapsing to the floor again.
"You're too kind," Agent Z muttered as he sat up from the slab, flexing his arms. "I've been stuck here for too long. I need to get out."
"Luckily for you, I have something in mind," Zurg raised a metal finger as his green neon light teeth widened with a smile. "Droid!"
The scientist yelped, startled, as it turned itself around to face the evil emperor with a salute. "Yes?"
"Did you do what I asked of you earlier?" He asked.
"Oh, yes, yes, yes!" The scientist nodded violently before wheeling over towards the main computer. He typed in a series of letters into the keyboard and a image popped up on the screen. "The live feed of Star Command from one of your Spy Drones, as requested."
The image the droid was delivering was a live feed, peering through one of the windows of the command centre. Inside the room was Commander Nebula, Buzz Lightyear, the Disney Wizard named Sebastian, who was Buzz's Guardian. Also in the room were two other Wizards. A boy with blonde hair who the evil emperor vaguely remembered, and beside him was a girl. Two girls in fact. One had ginger hair, the other was a brunette.
But Zurg had only one person on his mind. One that was standing in that room in particular.
The Chosen One.
He pointed at the brunette, looking over at Agent Z.
"Agent Z, I have a mission for you."
*******
"What's going on Buzz?" Sebastian asked the Space Ranger.
"We got here as quickly as we could as soon as I got your message." I added.
"Thank you, Avalyn. Wizards, the reason why I called you all here," Buzz began as he pushed a button on a round table, a holographic image of the solar system appearing before us. "Is because of this."
Along with the stars, planets, and moons, it looked like there were strange black swirls of clouds forming.
"Is that...?" I slowly raised a finger, my voice growing scarce.
"The Dark Anomalies? We think so." Buzz nodded, crossing his arms.
"But what is it, or are they, doing up here in space?" Ben questioned, cupping his chin.
"Or he?" I added.
"I thought you guys said that they came from the Underworld?" Kaitlyn reminded.
"That's just a theory. There have been high readings of their signatures down there, but Hades hasn't called back to confirm whether or not they do come from the Underworld." Sebastian explained.
"Look at you, why aren't you smart." Kaitlyn complimented while rolling her eyes.
"Um, thanks?" Sebastian replied, raising a brow at the ginger haired girl.
"Well, whatever the Dark Anomalies are, they seem to be more coordinated in this sector here," Buzz explained, pointing a finger on the screen, the spot where the tip of his finger touched lighting up, "circling that moon."
"But why there?" I asked.
Suddenly the alarm went off, the entire room turning into a bright shade of red as the LGM's in the room began to scatter about, panicking as they moved to various stations in the command center.
"What's going on?" Buzz spoke up.
"Lightyear!" Commander Nebula's voice spoke over a loud speaker as a holographic image of him appeared on top of the table. "Tomorrowland is under attack!"
Everyone gasped with fear as they looked at the holographic image with shock. I covered my mouth upon hearing the news. All of those innocent civilians and characters down there are caught in the cross fire. And Cosmic Ray is down there too!
"Is it the Dark Anomalies?" Ben asked.
"Nope, different." The commander answered as he brought up a live feed of the attack.
The scene was horrible. The sky in that part of the Magic Kingdom was brown and red, smoke feeding up from the ground as familiar yellow robots caused chaos.
"Those robots," I spoke quietly, stepping closer towards the screen. "I've seen them before."
Buzz beat me to the punch, as he already knew who was causing this attack. His eyes narrowed as his voice lowered to a growl, "Zurg."
"Zurg? No way! I thought we finished that Evil Emperor for good!" Sebastian recalled, punching his fists together.
"It looks like he survived our last encounter, and he must be back for more." Buzz stated.
"Mickey has received orders from 'The Man', he wants the Disney Wizards and Star Command to handle the situation." Commander Nebula explained.
"You can count on us Commander," Buzz grinned, saluting the high ranking officer.
"Get'er done." Nebula nodded before ending his transmission.
"Alright Wizards, follow my lead." Buzz ordered with a wave as he made a break for it out of the room, the others and I running after him.
"At least one good thing came out of this." Ben spoke.
"Oh yeah, and what's that?" Kaitlyn asked the blonde.
"We don't have to fight the Dark Anomalies for a change." Ben yelled back, looking over at the female Illusionist.
Kaitlyn smirked at the boy, "True. They must be cutting us some slack after that Ghost Beast you three fought back at the Haunted Mansion."
"How did you know that?" I asked her with surprise.
"I hear things." She simply answered.
"Focus people!" Buzz ordered as we entered the launch bay.
The room was huge, lined up with rockets, that were ready for take off. We ran for the closet ship, climbing in as we each took our own seats. We strapped in as Buzz got the ship powered on.
"You think we'll make it in time?" Sebastian asked with worry, strapping into the co-pilot seat next to Buzz.
"Here's hoping," Buzz answered before glancing back at the rest of us. "Hang tight, we're taking off!"
*******
The flight down to Tomorrowland was quick and unsettling. The ship went through a rough patch of turbulence as we entered "Disney's" planet Earth's air space.
And it was getting even worse when it entered the war zone. The ship kept rocking back and fourth from all of the laser fire and explosions popping up everywhere.
It was so bad, we were forced to take an emergency landing.
And by that, I mean Buzz had no choice but to crash the ship.
We evacuated quickly, Buzz using his jetpack, while Kaitlyn summoned a purple cloud to levitate on, and Ben used his defense magic to materialize a giant green orb around him, Sebastian, and I. The five of us jumped out of the ship, soaring down towards the city as we watched the ship fly off and crash just outside of the city.
We made it down to the street safely, and were immediately met with laser fire, coming from a ground squadron of Zurg's robots.
"Move it!" Buzz yelled, waving forward as the five of us took off down the street.
The Space Ranger occasionally retaliated with his laser, nailing one or two good shots as we took cover inside the Soarin' Station. Civilians and a few characters were taking shelter inside, hiding from the carnage of the battle.
"Is everyone alright?" Sebastian called, catching their attention.
"Is anyone injured?" I asked, raising a hand as it glowed a bright pink.
A few civilians came forward, most were children with scraps and bruises. I directed them to the side of the building where I tended to the few that were wounded as Ben did a quick headcount before glancing over at the rest of the group.
"There's quite a few of them here," He spoke with a sigh. "But I don't see Cosmic Ray."
"That means he's still out there." Sebastian stated with realization.
"I'll go find him," Kaitlyn nodded, making a break for the exit. "I'll rendezvous with you guys later."
"We should stick together Kaitlyn!" Buzz called, waving at her.
"Hey, those boys aren't the only ones who's friends with him you know." The ginger haired girl remarked before leaving the station.
Once I was done tending to the wounded, I regrouped with the boys, smacking my hands together. "That's all of them. Where to now?"
"We've got to find the source of the attacks." Buzz proclaimed.
Right at that moment, the whole building suddenly began to shake, the ceiling above cracking.
"Take cover!" Ben yelped.
The ceiling suddenly exploded, large pieces of derbies flying everywhere. Right as it did so, Ben sucked in his gut, using every ounce of magic he could carry as he summoned a large shield, protecting him, us, and the civilians from the carnage of the explosion. When it was clear, he materialized the shield, coughing from the smoke as everyone suddenly gasped, a few children pointing up at the sky through the newly made, giant hole in the ceiling.
I gulped nervously, slowly pointing my finger up in the air. "Found it."
Up in the sky was a red and purple, menacing rocket ship.
"...Oh no..." Buzz spoke with fear, his eyes widening.
"What? What is it?" I asked, fixture of fear and concern filling my eyes as I placed a hand on the Space Ranger's shoulder.
"Drones, move in!" A voice boomed from the speakers of the ship.
"It's my old partner... Warp Darkmatter." Buzz answered.
I glanced over to the side, staring aimless at the floor as I rummaged through my thoughts. I've heard that name before. And then, it suddenly clicked. My eyes widened as I gasped sharply, looking back up at the ship.
"Agent Z..." I realized.
A troop of drones could be seen at the top, jumping down from the roof of the building. The civilians and various Disney characters, in a panic, ran away from the very sight of them. One by one they dropped down, aiming their weapons at us.
"Not today," Buzz spoke as he charged his laser, then open fired as he sliced a entire row of drones in half, their bodies collapsing to the floor of the station. "Not ever."
"Let's take them down!" Sebastian cheered as he summoned a sword in his hand, he and Buzz charging straight into battle.
"Were they always like that working together?" I asked Ben, turning my head to face him.
He scoffed playfully, grinning. "Girl, I could tell you stories."
We quickly followed behind, joining the Wizard and Space Ranger in the fire fight. One by one, drones slowly met their demise. Buzz used his laser, flying overhead with his jetpack while Sebastian, Ben, and I handled things on the ground.
"Avalyn, catch!" Buzz called, tossing me a laser gun.
I saw it falling, shoving a drone out of my way as I leaped, just catching the weapon in my arms as I collapsed to the floor. I quickly stood up, taking a look at it, and I was completely astonished. It looked just like the toy laser gun they sold at the gift shop in Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin!
"Thanks Buzz!" I smiled, signalling him a thumbs up.
I quickly rejoined the battle, aiming the weapon at a drone as I pressed the green button on the handle. It went 'PEW', a red laser firing out of it and striking the drone, making it explode on contact.
"Sweet!" I exclaimed.
As the fire fight went on, there were sudden explosions spewing out of the walls, as more drones appeared to join in on the fight.
"The worst isn't done yet!" Buzz reminded, just barely dodging some incoming shots as he retaliated with his own laser fire. But then, a big green laser came flying from the sky, striking Buzz's jetpack as the Space Ranger came crashing down, tumbling across the floor.
"Buzz!" I yelped, running towards him.
"Ava!" I glanced up to see a series of laser coming straight for me. But before I could even blink, Ben swooped in, tackling me out of the way of the lasers.
I groaned from the sudden impact, my side throbbing as Ben and I sat up from the floor. "You alright?" He asked.
"Yeah," I nodded, tucking some hair behind my ear. "What was that?"
"Um, guys?!" Sebastian called.
We glanced over at Sebastian who was deflecting those same green lasers with his sword, Agent Z flying around and firing said lasers at the British boy.
"I could use a little help here!" He added.
He managed to deflect a shot, knocking it right back at Agent Z as it struck him in the chest. It sent him spiraling backwards. When he regained himself, shaking his helm, he took off into the sky, retreating.
"Where's he going?" Ben asked.
"Let's go find out." Sebastian prompted.
"But what about Buzz?" I reminded, pointing at his body on the floor. "We can't just leave him here!"
"I've got him!"
Kaitlyn came back, running into the room as he went straight for Buzz.
"Did you find Ray?" Ben asked her.
"Yeah, he's in one of the safe houses," She answered, wrapping her arms under Buzz's shoulders, pulling him up as she began to drag his body. "You guys go after Agent Z, I'll take Buzz to the nearest safe house."
"Roger that," Sebastian saluted. "Ben?"
"I'm on it!" Ben materialized another force field around the three of us, lifting us up into the air as we went flying after Agent Z.
We spotted him not too far from us. He flew into a puff of smoke, and we followed close behind him.
"We've got'em---" Sebastian boasted as we flew passed the smoke, only to find-- "Run?"
Nothing. Agent Z was nowhere to be found.
"Where did he go?" I questioned, looking around at every corner I could lay my eyes on.
"He couldn't have just vanished, it's impossible!" Ben stated.
But then, showing up out of nowhere, a sudden plasma orb came flying downward, phasing right through Ben's shield and exploded!
The blast sent the three of us flying in opposite directions, my ears ringing louder than a broken speaker.
I crashed back first into the roof of a tumbling, tumbling to the side and just as I fell over the edge, I reached out and grabbed the edge with my hand.
The blast weakened my strength, and I could barely raise my other hand to each for the roof.
What was worse, is that the hand that I did use to grab on to the roof, was slipping! I glanced down to the alley below. I had to be able 3, maybe 4 floors up.
There was no way I would survive a fall like that!
But just as I lost my grip, a loud scream escaping my lips, something or someone reached out and grabbed my hand. There I was, dangling in the air as I was being pulled up to the roof.
Once I was high enough, I pushed myself up to the roof, heavily breathing in and out, placing a hand over my heart.
"Thanks..."
"Don't mention it, Chosen One."
I froze, my heart feeling like it stopped beating as my eyes widened upon hearing that voice.
That wasn't one of the voices of my friends. It was far from it.
Slowly, I turned my head to see the tall, menacing image of Agent Z, his flesh hand forming into a fist.
I quick shook my head, whimpering, "Oh no...!"
"Lights out." He grinned, bringing his fist to my face as the faint sound of two young boys screaming my name could be heard in the distance.
