Chapter 22 - I Won't Say I'm In Love

"Kaitlyn?" Sebastian repeated, his face looking dumbstruck.

"Hello to you too." She greeted, crossing her arms.

"It's not that I'm not happy to see you," Sebastian quickly defended, waving his hands nervously. "I'm just, surprised is all."

Ben gently nudged his friend's arm, shutting him up. "What Sebastian is trying to say is; We weren't expecting you. And what's this we hear about her being our new, partner?"

"Well boys as you know, each team of Wizards requires four members. So due to the, uh, " Mickey faked a loud cough before continuing. "--incident, Kaitlyn will be your teams newest Illusionist."

"Really now?" Sebastian's eyes widened at the thought, slowly clapping his hands together with a sigh. "Great..."

"Don't act so surprise, I wasn't looking forward to this as much as you were." Kaitlyn commented.

"The Wizard Council has requested that the three of you and Ava begin training together as a team." Mickey explained.

"Do we have to?" Sebastian questioned.

Mickey lowered his eyes into a slight glare. "It's non-optional."

Sebastian groaned, waving his hand in defeat. "Fine, she can stick around, I guess."

"Don't get too comfortable, Harris," Kaitlyn cautioned as she waltzed to his side, glancing at him with her sharp ivy green eyes. "We wouldn't want a repeat of last time."

"I guess not, Perry-Winkle..." Sebastian teased with a grin.

The red head turned her head completely to face him, the two of them locking their gazes upon one another.

"How many times have I told you not to use my last name?" She growled.

"You used mine," Sebastian countered. "I thought you liked it when I teased you?"

Kaitlyn huffed at the boy as she stepped back, shifting her nose into the air as she began to walk away from the British Boy. "I suggest you clean yourself up. Nobody wants to see your glistening sweat."

The two boys and mouse watched her travel to the center of the room, rummaging through the fruit basket as Ben looked over at Sebastian. "So, remind me again why you like her?" Ben whispered.

"She's not like other girls I've met," Sebastian whispered back. "She's feisty."

"What girl isn't nowadays?" Ben asked him, raising a brow.

"I can name 5." Sebastian answered.

There was a sudden knock on the door as Fairy Godmother entered the room, sighing with relief as she brushed her forehead, moving strands of hair out of her eyes. "So sorry I am late."

"That's quite alright, Fairy Godmother," Mickey assured her with a nod. "I'm just on my way out."

"Wait, wait, wait," Sebastian called, taking a step forward towards the mouse. "So, Kaitlyn is part of our team, permanently?"

"Just until the Dark Anomalies are defeated. Please try to bare with us until then. The four of you need to train together if you're all going to master your Power Up." Mickey explained.

"Wait, our Power Up?" Sebastian flinched.

"Um, Mickey? The four of us pulling off our team Power Up without one correct element isn't---"

"Sorry, gotta go!" Mickey waved as he took off out of the room, shutting the door behind him.

With the mouse gone, Sebastian clutched the towel in his hand a little tighter before slapping it onto his shoulder. "Did he just pull a fast one on us?"

"Without our actually Illusionist member, our team can't pull off the Power Up," Ben explained, poking his head. "I've studied and memorized the manual, it's scientifically impossible."

"That may be true, Benjamin--"

"Please, Fairy Godmother," Ben smacked himself in the face with a groan. "Just call me Ben, please?"

"Very well, Ben, what you say is true, however if you progress deeper into the Compatibility section, it explains that in the event a Wizard can no longer be in active service, that member is to be replaced by another Wizard that possess the same magical element, and is to go through a Magic Compatibility session in order for the team's Power Up to full function." Fairy Godmother explained.

"And Mickey made Kaitlyn go through with it? Right behind our backs?" Ben questioned.

"Now, now, don't go all mouthing away like that," Fairy Godmother warned, taking out her wand and tapping it in the blonde's direction. "I'm sure Mickey Mouse had a good reason as to why he would do such a thing."

"Okay, even if she did take the session, there's still a 50/50 chance of it not going to work." Sebastian added.

"Hello! I'm right here you know!" Kaitlyn rose her voice, taking a bite out of a apple. "Are we doing this or what?"

"We're missing Avalyn," Ben pointed out as he pulled out his communicator. "I'll give her a call now."

"You go do that." She mumbled, tossing the apple back as it dunked into a garbage bin with ease.

"Not bad." Sebastian complimented. "You could almost go pro."

"Oh, like you could do better?" Kaitlyn taunted, placing her hands on her hips.

"Actually, I can as a matter of fact--" But before Sebastian could walk over, he suddenly froze in place. He looked down to see white magical swirls surrounding his body.

"Not so fast Mr. Harris." Fairy Godmother spoke as she walked over towards him.

"Aw come on!" He whined.

"Before we get started, I suggest you clean yourself a bit and get changed." The old woman ordered, picking up the fallen towel and placing it back on his shoulder. "Save those muscles for the beach."

Sebastian sighed in defeat as he lowered his head. "Yes Fairy Godmother."

The woman released the boy from the spell before shooing him away into the next room as Kaitlyn watched the drama, giggling like a little school girl.

Sebastian couldn't help but sneak a quick glance at the girl before he stepped into the other room to change. Kaitlyn surely has changed quite a bit since that one day. He didn't know why, but he... liked it.

"Okay," Ben stepped back into the room, tucking his communicator back into his pocket. "I sent Ava a message but it might take her a while to get here. Her family is over at Hollywood Studios today."

"Oh well, I guess training is cancelled if the Chosen One can't even show up." Kaitlyn shrugged.

"Now, now, don't get discouraged child." Fairy Godmother spoke up. "I might be able to help with that deary."

"You can?" Ben asked with confusion.

"Show me your communicator." She commanded.

Ben reached back into his pocket, pulling the device out and extended it to the old woman.

"Now then," Fairy Godmother pushed the sleeves of her robe up her arms before getting into position. "Bipididi... bodidi... bu!"

With a wave of her wand, Fairy Godmother fired a streak of white magic at the device. It lifted the communicator as it began to spin around in a circle.

"Fair warning; I haven't done magic on technology for a long while. There's no telling how exactly this will play out." Fairy Godmother cautioned.

"Well that's reassuring." Kaitlyn commented.

"You're one of the best when it comes to magic Fairy Godmother," Ben complimented. "Don't doubt yourself."

"I'm glad you think so," Fairy Godmother smiled. "Look!"

The communicator flashed as the shadow of a female figure materialized from the screen and into the middle of the white magical swirls. When the magic vanished, the shadowed figure revealed to be Avalyn, Ben's communicator falling and hitting her on the head.

*******

"Ow!" I yelped, rubbing my head as I glanced down to see Ben's communicator. I bent down, picking it up from the floor as I handed it to the blonde. "I think you dropped this?"

"Thanks," Ben thanked, swiping it back into his sweat pants pocket.

"How was the trip deary?" Fairy Godmother asked.

"Quite unexpected, but what a rush!" I exclaimed, jumping up into the air. "I've never teleported like that before! Heck, I don't even recall pressing anything. I got here just as I steered away from my family while waiting for the Muppets pre-show to finish."

"Aw, you're missing the Muppets? That's one of my favourite attractins!" Sebastian spoke up, poking his head out of the door of a spare room. I could almost caught a small glimpse of his bare chest. Just what was he doing in there?

"Sebastian Harris, stop dilly-dallying and get changed." Fairy Godmother ordered.

"Yes ma'am." he gulped before shutting the door.

"Some's in trouble." A voice chide in a playful manner.

"I am not!" Sebastian retaliated, his voice muffled from behind the door.

It wasn't until I took a glance around the room until I spotted Kaitlyn. She was eating an apple, eating it near the core before swinging back and dunking it into a near-by food bin.

"Hi Kaitlyn." I greeted with a small wave.

"Chosen One." She nodded, her face expressionless upon meeting my gaze.

I slowly lowered my hand as I moved a bit closer towards Ben, whispering, "What's she doing here?"

"She's taking part in our training sessions. Didn't you get the memo?" He replied, glancing my way.

"What memo? About the training?" I guessed, raising a brow with confusion.

"Nope, bigger and better." Ben corrected, stretching his arms out as he turned away from me.

"Why the emphasis on better?" I asked him, placing my hands on my hips. "Ben?"

"Oh for petes sake, if he won't spill the beans, I swear!" Kaitlyn grumbled as she smacked herself in the face. She rubbed her hand down her face before shaking it, leaning on her side against the table. "I am your newest member of your precious team."

"You are?" I asked with surprise.

"She is." Ben confirmed, cracking his knuckles. "When Mickey said that he pulled some strings, we were expecting our original illusionist to come back. No offense, Kaitlyn."

"None taken, Benjamin." Kaitlyn replied with a grin.

She suddenly waved her hand, a puff of purple smoke sparking from her fingers. There was a sudden squeak noise as I glanced down to see purple squirrels poking around inside Ben's pants!

"Ben!" I squealed, pointing at his briefs.

He glanced down and screamed, jumping around and running around as he yelled. "There are squirrels in my pants!"

Kaitlyn then materialized a boom box that played "Squirrels In My Pants" from Phineas & Ferb. I tried so hard not to laugh at the sight, but I couldn't help it. I managed to hold most of it back, a chuckle escaping my lips as Kaitlyn was laughing so hard, she fell butt first onto the floor, arms wrapped around her stomach.

"Kaitlyn Perry-Winkle, that's enough!" Fairy Godmother stated.

Sebastian then re-entered the room, holding his red jacket in his hand as he came upon the sight. He couldn't help but bellow a laugh as he neared my side. "Ben? What are you doing?"

"I've got squirrels in my pants, what does it look like?!" The blonde yelped.

"Ms. Perry-Winkle, I'm not going to ask you again!" Fairy Godmother cautioned.

"Wait, Kaitlyn?" Sebastian glanced over at the ginger haired girl, seeing her practically laughing herself to death. Tears were streaming down her cheeks as the voice echoed across the room along with the music. "I think he's had enough Kaitlyn."

"Oh, but I thought you enjoyed my practical jokes?" Kaitlyn questioned as she composed herself, sitting on the floor.

"I do, but now's not that time. So can you cut it out? Please?" He asked.

"Well, only because you said please." She shrugged.

With a snap of her fingers, the boom box and squirrels vanished in a puff with purple smoke. Ben exhaled with relief, collapsing to his hands and knees as he calmed himself down. Once he was done, he moved his head up, giving Kaitlyn a nasty glare.

"What was that all about?"

"What? Oh come on, we were just having some fun!" Kaitlyn pouted.

"You call that fun? You know I have Sciurophobia..." He grumbled, pushing himself up to his feet.

"Come again?" I raised a finger, completely confused by the word.

"He has a fear of squirrels." Fairy Godmother elaborated.

My eyes widened as my brain clicked upon hearing the meaning of the long word. "Oooooh!"

Kaitlyn rolled her eyes in my direction before focusing her attention on Ben who was walking towards her. "It was just a joke! What kind of person has a fear of squirrels anyway?"

"Uh, I do!" Ben stated, poking himself in the chest with his thumb, before pointing a finger at her. "You try and pull that stunt on me again, I swear you'll regret it."

"Oh I will, will I?" Kaitlyn cocked an eyebrow at the boy, surprising him. "You don't scare me Benjamin."

"For the last time, it's Ben! Seb, back me up here!" The blonde waved his hands in the air, indicating his friend.

Sebastian looked between the two. His best friend giving him a pleading stare while Kaitlyn tried the classic puppy dog eyes. He clutched his teeth together, grumbling as he shook his head. "Okay, Ben, you're my best friend, and Kaitlyn, we've had our history together, but what you did back there was unacceptable. I'm sorry Ben, I shouldn't have laughed."

"Yes! Thank you Ben!" The blonde cheered with relief.

"... What you should have done instead, is summoned a bunch of chipmunks. Those are WAY worse for him." Sebatian smirked over at Kaitlyn.

"Sebastian!" Ben yelled, placing his hands on his head, pulling on his hair.

Kaitlyn scoffed at the British boy as she stepped towards him. "Chipmunks? Uh, no thank you! They remind me of those high pitch voices from their cartoon counterparts. Hearing them just makes my ears bleed."

"But the blood would match your hair?" Sebastian shrugged with a tease.

Kaitlyn huffed, flipping her hair right into Sebastian's face before she walked away from him.

I winced a little at the sight as I made my way towards him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You okay?"

And then out of nowhere, he suddenly sighed and a small smile crept up on his face. "Her hair smells like apples..."

I was taken back by this sudden revelation, stepping back from the boy. After getting a good look at his face, my mouth gaped open at the sight. I haven't seen a face like that since Santiago and I reunited back in high school.

Wait... did Sebastian like Kaitlyn? As in THE Kaitlyn from the story he was telling me back on the shuttle?

"Alright now Children, that's enough fooling around," Fairy Godmother clapped her hands, signalling for our attention. "Let's get to work."

"So what are we doing exactly?" I asked as the three of us drew near to the old woman.

"Mickey has instructed me to help you all practice your team's Power Up. It's a magical force that occurs when all four members of a Wizard team link up and unlock their magical forms, thus increasing the strength of their powers." Fairy Godmother explained.

"The Power Up only lasts for so long, so when we activate it, we need to make it count. Especially if we're going up against the Dark Anomalies." Ben added.

"But it's not going to work..." Sebastian mumbled.

"What was that Mr. Harris?" Fairy Godmother questioned.

"Nothing!" Sebastian spoke up, tying his hands behind his back.

"Alright, let's get started shall we?"

The four of us followed Fairy Godmother's instructions. We had to stand in a rectangular shape, facing each other. Then we were told to lift up our right hands, forming them into fists.

"--And now, reach out and connected your fists with each other." She commanded.

Glancing over at each other, we followed the command, slowly extending our fists towards one another. I watched the scene carefully, and as our fists drew closer towards each other, I saw a flash, some kind of spark go off in the center of the square formed with our fists. It was the colours of the rainbow, and I couldn't help but awe at the sight of it.

When all of our fists touched one another, the light of the rainbow began to spread up along our fists and slowly moved about our arms. I glanced down at my own arm, and I noticed that it was... changing!

A white fabric, like something from a blouse was taking form. It felt so smooth, but why was this "Power Up" forming this?

I glanced up at the others, and the same thing was happening to them!

Then suddenly the rainbow began to flicker violently, and within the blink of an eye, the magic retracted itself and the spark was gone, shocking us as the four of us stepped back from the sight.

"What just happened?" I asked with confusion.

"I didn't work, that's what happened." Sebastian huffed, crossing his arms.

"Well don't look at me, I didn't want sign up for this." Kaitlyn spoke up, checking her nails.

Ben sighed, looking over at Fairy Godmother. "With all due respect Fairy Godmother, having Kaitlyn being our new Illusionist isn't going to cut it. In order for our teams Power Up to work, we need all four original members of the team. That includes our original Illusionist."

"By that you mean, him?" She questioned.

"Yes, him." Ben nodded.

"It's not going to work without him. Like we said before, if one member is gone and someone else does the Compatibility session, there's still a 50/50 chance of it failing, and it did." Sebastian added.

"In order for this to work, we need our old team-mate back." Ben spoke.

"I'm sorry boys, but the council has spoken. He is not to return to the Wizards ever again." Fairy Godmother shook her head.

Before she could continue, my Kimunicator suddenly beeped. I pulled it out of my pocket, turning the screen on to see a message blinking on the screen.

"What is it Ava?" Ben asked me.

After scanning the message, my eyes widened, glancing up at the group. "It's Buzz Lightyear, he says he needs our help. Right now!"
