Chapter 19 - Ghosts Just Wanna Dance
"The Haunted Mansion?!" I rose my voice.
I stared at the mansion with complete and utter shock. The Haunted Mansion. There was a dark anomaly, inside The Haunted Mansion?!
"You can't be serious!" I spat.
Sebastian took a step forward, swiping the Kimunicator from my hands as he raised the device in the air, a very familiar thunder cloud hovering overhead.
"Is that?--"
"It's not their leader. Whoever or whatever it is." he answered. "It's another Category Three." He tossed the Kimunicator back to me as Ben joined in on the huddle.
"If it's a Category Three, then we could be dealing with another body snatcher kind of deal. Just like Cosmic Ray went through."
"Do you think any of the ghosts know about it?" I asked him.
"Only one way to find out. Come on."
Me and Sebastian followed Ben up the front steps, standing in front of the large door. Ben knocked on the door, the handle banging against the wooden door. There was no answer.
"Maybe they're all asleep?" Sebastian suggested.
I examined the door, noticing a crack on the side. With a steady hand, I pushed my fingers against the door and it slowly creaked open.
"They kept the door open? I know it's suppose to be haunted, but... why?" I asked, raising a brow.
"I... I don't know." Ben shook his head with confusion.
"Well, we're not going to figure it out by just standing around here." Sebastian spoke up. "Come on, let's go inside."
Sebastian was the first to go in, pushing the door open as he poked his head inside, taking a quick scan before stepping into the main foyer of the mansion, Ben and I following behind him as I shut the door upon entry.
Once I shut the door, there was a sudden spark of light. The three of us looked up to see a giant chandelier, the candles on it sparking to life on its own.
"Okay, just a little bit creepy..." I muttered.
"Hello? Ghost Host?" Ben called.
"Anyone home?" Sebastian yelled.
There only response was a sudden clap of thunder and lightning, as raindrops could be heard from outside.
"Great, more water... Hey, will we turn into mermaids again if we get wet from the rain?" I asked suddenly.
"Until we figure out what's going on in here, we won't be going outside." Ben stated. "Let's take a look around, see if we can find at least someone who'll tell us what's happening."
"Is your Kimunicator still picking up the signal?" Sebastian asked, glancing over at me.
I took a look at the device, the screen flashing red for a brief moment before switching back over to the arrow.
"It's still going." I answered.
The boy patted me on the back with a grin, "Good," Right before gently pushing me forward. "Because you're leading this one."
"What?!" I shrieked, turning around to face them. "Why me?"
"Because you're the only one with means to track the Dark Anomalies, at the moment." Sebastian explained.
"Besides, I can't get into contact with Buzz in Star Command to get a exact lock on the coordinates." Ben added, raising his communicator in the air as it made a strange beep. "That storm outside is blocking my signal."
"Or the Dark Anomalies." I countered.
"Relax Ava," Sebastian placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. "We'll be right behind you."
I gulped, slowly nodding my head. "O-O-Okay."
The boys smiled at me as I slowly turned, following the direction the arrow was pointing at as they followed closely behind me.
We made our way down the center hallway, coming up to some stairs as we slowly followed suit, turning to the left. I briefly looked up to see some paintings on the walls. They were just like the ones you'd see at the attraction back at the park. Only now since we were in the World of Disney, they were a million times more scarier. When the lightning flashed, the pictures morphed into their creepy counterparts. I shuddered at the sight, not daring to look again.
The three of us continued to slowly make our way down the wall, making another turn as the arrow began to flash suddenly.
"Um guys, what does it mean if the arrow is flashing?" I asked.
"That means we're getting close." Ben answered. "Sebastian?"
"I'm on it." The British boy nodded, forming his hands into fists as they glowed a bright red.
Suddenly, a random spew of knocks, bands, and rattling could be heard. I looked all around us to see a long row of doors either side of us.
"What is going on?" I asked with fear in my voice.
"Get awaaaay!" a voice cackled.
"Run befoooore they catch yoooooou!" Another few echoed.
"Before catches us?" Ben spoke up.
The sudden thunder of a metal footstep caught our attention. It was loud, almost as loud as the thunder, you couldn't miss it. The three of us looked over to the end of the hall as the lightning flashed, to see a strange shadow. It look like it resembled that of a knight. It was crouching its knees, sneaking its way down the other hallway.
In a sudden flash that made me yelp, a metal hand clutched onto the wall, pulling the knight into view at the end of the hallway. It jerked its helmet to face us, yellow eyes flashing through the eye sockets of the metal piece.
"Ah!" I screamed, desperately taking a few steps back, nearly bumping into the boys as I tried to make a break for it down the hall, but I bumped into something that made me fall to the floor.
"Ava, come back!" Ben called.
I shook my head furiously after the hit, but something I saw in front of me made me freeze. I slowly moved my head up, trailing the armour of a second knight. The yellow eyes in the helmet flashed at me, its hands coming for me.
"Ah!" I screamed again, a bit louder this time as I bolted back down the hall, grabbing Sebastian who was the closest, wrapping my arms around his upper chest as I shivered and quaked with fear.
The sounds of the metal footsteps of the walking knights grew louder and drew closer towards the three of us.
"Sebastian? Anytime now." Ben pestered.
"It's still charging, give me a minute." Sebastian hissed.
"We don't have another minute!" Ben stated.
The metal footsteps continued to grow louder and louder as they drew close to us. I noticed a sudden flash in Sebastian's fists.
"Ready!" Sebastian spoke firmly.
"Ava, get down!" Ben yelled as he grabbed me, ripping me from Sebastian's body as we both plummeted to the floor, the blonde shielding me.
Before I could even realize what was going on, I looked up to see that the knights were practically right on top of us! But then, with a loud cry, Sebastian stretched his arms out, opening the palms of his fists, unleashing two large, red, magical blasts. The blasts knocked both of the knights away from us, splitting the arm apart into pieces, as two black creatures emerged from them, looking dizzy as stars twirled around their heads.
"It's the Dark Anomalies!" I yelped.
Sebastian took a step towards the one to his left, glaring at it with a grin as he raised a finger, sparking it with a red flame. "Ready for round 2?"
The little black creature suddenly scream with fear, firing himself up into the air as we whacked himself on the head with the ceiling, before flying over him, scooping up his buddy in crime as they both knocked into the wall at the end of the hall, and took off down the intersection.
The three of us glanced at each other, looking dumbfounded.
"They were... scared of you." I spoke.
"Eh, who could blame'em? After firing a blast like that? They should be." Sebastian boasted, blowing the spark out of his finger like a candle.
I rolled my eyes at the boy with a small smile as Ben helped me up to my feet. "You okay?" He asked me.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just, a little spooked that's all." I nodded.
"Forgive me for saying this Ava but, I've never seen you so... well..."
"So scared?" I interrupted Sebastian. "Well, let's just say I've never quite had a thing for ghosts growing up."
"Is it gooooone?" A voice spoke up.
The three of us looked up to see practically all of the doors in the hallway open, to reveal two or three ghosts hiding in each room.
"Is there someplace we can talk?" Ben asked.
******
Ben, Sebastian, and I, and the majority of the ghosts, some were still in hiding, gathered up and met inside the dinning room of the mansion.
The boys and I sat together on one side of the table, while the ghosts took up the rest of the row and the other side. The Ghost Host took the power seat at the end, next to Sebastian. He wore a nice suit with a top hat on his head.
"How long has this been going on?" Sebastian asked.
"Almost all day." The Ghost Host answered. "Those things give ghouls like us a bad name."
"And the rest of the residents are still in hiding?" I asked.
"I believe so. The Ghost Bride has locked herself away in the attic, some have taken off into the cemetery, but the Hitch Hiking Ghosts just flat out took off!" He explained.
"That explains we saw them outside." Sebastian realized.
"Well, since Sebastian was at least able to weaken them, it shouldn't be too hard to track them down." said Ben.
"Yeah, I mean, they're tiny little things now. What a load of hooey for a Category Three. If those are anything like the one we saw back in Tomorrowland, then we've got nothing to worry about." I proclaimed.
"...And you're certain about that?" The Ghost Host asked.
Before I could answer his question, there was a sudden rumble. It shook the utilities on the dinning room table and the chandelier above us, even the paintings on the walls.
I stood up from my seat, looking over to my left at the end of the room to see a bright green glowing light coming through the floorboards.
"Um, guys?" I spoke up, pointing at it.
Then the light suddenly zapped, breaking apart the floor boards as a giant ghost like beast emerged through the floor. It scared the ghosts in the room, making them take off for their very lives as they flew right through the walls.
The Ghost Beast landed near the end of the table. That thing had to be at least 10 feet tall. It had the head of a bull with sharp horns and sharp teeth, the body of a well built human male, and the legs of a horse.
"I just HAD to open my BIG mouth!" I growled, face-palming myself.
The Ghost Beast literally grabbed the end of the table, lifting the entire thing in the air and chucked it to the side, slamming right through the wall. It stormed its way over to the three of us as we each got into a battle ready stance.
"Sebastian, you and me, Cannonball Maneuver." Ben ordered.
"You got it." He replied.
"What about me?" I asked.
"Ava?--"
The Beast raised his fist in the air.
"Take cover!" Ben yelled.
As the Beast slammed down his fist, I jumped back, just barely dodging the blow. As for the boys, Sebastian summoned his Shoge Hook in his hands, twirling it before he tossed it into the air, the hook grappling itself onto the chandelier as the British Boy grabbed Ben and the two swung into the air, dodging the hit.
I watched with amazement as the two of them swung around once in the air. Then with all of his might, Sebastian threw Ben down, tossing him right at the beast. The Defense Wizard curled himself up into a ball, forming a green protective bubble around him as he spun around, nailing a hit at the monster's head.
I smiled at the boys. The two of them sure did make quite the team.
The hit made the beast stumble back, knocking over a few antics that were on display on the shelves near the organ at the end of the room. I quickly crawled back out of the monsters way, hiding behind one of the big chairs.
Poking my head out, I watched as Ben spun back away from the beast as Sebastian let go of the chandelier, the two of them re-grouping on the floor.
Once they were back together, Sebastian twirled his weapon again, letting it rip as he tossed the hook right at the monsters stomach, only this time, the hook phased right through him!
The boys and I looked at the monster with shock as it stood there, hands on his hips with a grin as the whole Sebastian made spread along its body, turning the Beast invisible and out of sight.
"Where did he go---!"
Both Ben and Sebastian were hit from behind as the Beast reappeared, whacking them both in the back.
"Guys!"
I jumped out of hiding, running to try and catch the boys but them rammed right into me and the three of us bounced away from each other. I must have hit the antic shelve, because I heard the click of a camera go off. I shook my head to see an old camera, a picture printing out of the slot. I slowly took the picture and once the picture faded in, I could see the Ghost Beast in the picture.
I looked up at the spot of where the monster was suppose to be, but he wasn't there. I could only hear him. But when I moved the picture up to the spot where it was taken, a thought came to me.
Maybe you can only see him if you snag a picture!
I snapped my fingers at the thought as Ben and Sebastian were grabbed and thrown through the air, literally crashing through a wall and sprawling to the floor of the main foyer of the mansion.
I quickly sprung up to my feet, grabbing the camera in my hands as I took off across the room, and through the newly large hole that was made. I found the boys slowly pushing themselves up from the floor, whistling to get their attention, I tossed them the camera.
"What good will that do?" Sebastian asked me.
I mimicked the action of taking a picture with my hands. "You can see that thing if you nail a picture of him. It will show you where he is, then BAM!" I punched the air with my fist for affect. "You can nail that sucker!"
Ben flashed me a thumbs up as he took the camera in his hand. "Good call Ava!"
I crouched down to one knee, watching the boys as they got up and looked around. When there was a sudden creek, Ben quickly snapped a picture in its direction. The picture came out of the slot as Sebastian took it in his hand.
The picture wasn't coming out fast enough. This irritated the boy as he either blew on it or waved it like a fan.
"Come on, come on!" he growled.
As he did so, the Ghost Beast emerged right below them, sucker punching the both of them right up into the air. I gasped, standing back up as I watched them soar up towards the skylight.
"Guys!"
The boys quickly snapped out of it, turning themselves around as they began to fall back down towards the floor. Ben quickly snapped a few more pictures before the both of them somersaulted safely to the floor.
Again, the pictures weren't coming out fast enough.
"What is with this thing?!" Sebastian spoke with anger.
"Guys, look out!" I screamed.
When the boys looked over to the side, they were both headbutted in the stomach, literally and were sent flying straight into a wall. They both collapsed to the floor, completely out of it.
"No!"
I quickly made my way down the balcony stairs, running towards the boys. But as I did so, I felt something grab me, lifting me up into the air. The Ghost Beast materialized, grinning at me.
"You think you're beating us? You Wizards aren't even close." It snarled.
Not figuring anything else out to do, and consdiering my healing magic wouldn't do anything against the beast, I managed to spring one my hands free and I simply did what Donald would do in a situation like this.
I poked that ghost right in its eyes with my fingers.
It wailed in pain, releasing me from its grip as I fell to the floor. Once it shook it off, it tried to hit me with its fists. I managed to maneuver my way around him, nearly dodging each attack he could throw at me.
But after that last swing, I tripped on a broken floorboard, collapsing to the floor. When it looked like the beast was going to get the upper hand on me, I noticed a flash of red light.
"Ava get down!"
Sebastian and Ben sprang up, the British Boy firing a powerful blast that knocked the monster off it its feet and collapsing to the floor. The two boys ran towards it, Ben using his magic to create a barrier around the beast, allowing him to lift him up with ease.
"Help with this you guys? Let's send him back to where he came from." He grinned.
"Now you're talking!" Sebastian exclaimed.
I got up to my feet, coming to Ben's side as the three of us grabbed the monster by its feet and began to spin him around and around in a circle. Once we gained enough speed, the three of us tossed him up into the air.
"Sebastian, hit him with everything you've got." Ben commanded.
"With pleasure." Sebastian smiled, cracking his knuckles.
He summoned a red flame, covering his hand as he got into position. The monster began to descend back down towards us and with a hard swing of his fist, Sebastian sucker punch the Ghost Beast right back up into the air, crashing through the skylight and into the thundering skies.
The boys shielded me from the falling glass, and as the three of us looked through the opening of the skylight, the thundercloud evaporated, and the sunshine came through.
We won.
