Chapter 15 - Edge Of The Mirror

Sebastian was the first to wake up from our sudden fall.

He slowly stirred, his eyes opening up nearly pitch blackness. He raised his head from the grey ground, taking a look around to see that he was in some kind of cave, or maybe perhaps a cavern of some sort.

As he slowly pushed himself up to his knees, he noticed his jacket feeling a little light. He patted the side, checking for something, and his eyes quickly widened.

"No, no, no!" He hissed quietly. "It can't be gone!"

He checked the rest of his jacket, inside and out. There was nothing in it. He began to frantically search the ground, looking for the possession he dropped. After searching for what seemed like forever, his hand caught something. He grabbed it, and held it up to his face, seeing the faint trail of green and pink smoke along a mirror.

He sighed with relief upon seeing it.

"Thank goodness. It's still intact."

He stuffed the mirror inside his jacket pocket, making sure it was a lot more secure this time. Once that was taken care off, he opened the palm of his hand, summoning a green orb as he used it as a flashlight.

"Ava? Avalyn, where are you?"

He ran down the tunnel, shoving his light left and right, searching desperately for his female partner. As he ran, he could feel the mirror inside his jacket pocket vibrating. He pulled it out, bringing it up to his face. The green and pink smoke was swirling around the mirror, the faded image of a black haired teen appearing on it.

"Ugh.... Sorry bro..." He muttered, tapping the mirror as the swirls vanished. "I can't talk right now."

He shoved the mirror back into his jacket pocket, and continued his search.

******

I let out a pain aching moan as I slowly opened my eyes. It looked like I was in a cave, but it's pretty dark to see.

"What happened? Sebastian?" I rose my voice.

"Ava!"

I turned around to see green glowing light coming from further in the tunnel. As the light grew bigger, and closer towards me, I saw the image of Sebastian, sighing with relief as I did so.

"Thank god you're okay!" I exclaimed with a wince.

"Are you hurt?" He asked me, carefully helping me up to my feet.

"My body aches, and I'm sure I have bruises in some places, but I'll survive." I answered.

"Come on, I'll help you get through this." He assured, taking my arm and placing it around his neck as he helped support my body, allowing me to stand.

"So, this is the Underworld." I assumed, taking in the lowly lit surroundings.

"Yep, this is it alright. I did some exploring while I was looking for you. There's a dock at the end of the tunnel. It should take us to Hades hangout." Sebastian explained. "With any luck, that's where we'll find Ben."

"And find out if the God of The Undead really is behind all of this nonsense with the Dark Anomalies." I added.

The boy nodded in agreement as we began making our way through the tunnel. Sebastian took it a bit slow for my sake, obviously caring for my well-being.

The two of us traveled to the end of the tunnel, finding the dock he was talking about. Water was a pale green, with the souls of the dead literally swimming in it, the light of the water reflecting on the ceiling and the walls.

"This is... something." I commented.

"You have no idea." Sebastian shook his head.

We proceeded forward, the British boy assisting me into the boat first before he grabbed a paddle and stepped in, using the paddle to push the boat away from the dock and began to steer across the river.

This whole scenario was just sending chills down my spine as I looked around the area. Huddling my knees up to my chest, I took a quick peek over the boat, looking at the water and seeing the many souls swimming by us, wailing and moaning at our presence. One of them even tried each out their hand to me with a scream.

I yelped, crawling away from it and right into Sebastian's leg. "What did he just--?!"

"They tend to do that sometimes. The souls of the dead, calling out for help. There's nothing we can do for them Avalyn, despite the extent of your magical abilities, and mine." Sebastian explained.

"Gosh..." I gulped nervously.

Even though I was nearly attacked by one of them, I couldn't help but feel bad for the souls of the dead. They were trapped down here forever, with no way of getting back home to the surface.

"Up a head." He spoke. "We're here."

I looked up to see a mountain like structure at the end of the river, with a small shrine like temple, stationed at the top. Sebastian slowly and quietly pulled the boat into the port, stepping off himself before helping me out of the boat.

"Do you think Hades knows we're here?" I asked.

"Probably. He should be able to sense rifts in the Underworld, but, just in case he doesn't know we're coming," He spoke softly, summoning the red light in his hands and materializing his Shoge Hook, the chain wrapped around his arm. "Proceed with caution."

And before anyone else asks, yes, I did indeed look up what it was called. Turns out it's a ninja weapon. I like ninja weapons.

I nodded in reply, following Sebastian as he took the lead up the spiral stairway around the mountain, heading up towards the temple. The climb seemed to take forever, well, for me anyways. We had to find Ben, and quickly. Who knows if he's dead or alive. I prayed in my mind that he was. Besides, if I stay away from the real world for too long, my family is going to wonder where I am.

Although there was that one time back during our Summer '07 Disney World trip, while we were at Hollywood Studios, we were leaving the park to make it to a dinner reservation we had at one of the hotels, and as we were walking, a show was going on in the middle of the street. A big group of people formed around them, and I ended up getting separated from my family. By the time I finally made it out of the crowd, they were nowhere in sight.

According to my grandparents, my mother realized I was missing, because I was always up at the front with my cousins. Luckily she noticed this, right before they went through the park exit. So my dad and my uncles set out to find me after they got in touch with security. My grandparents,my mom, and aunts stayed with my cousins at the security station. While my aunts, my mom, and grandma prayed for my return, my cousins were chilling on their own.

My cousin Ty even walked around the room, poking his head between the chairs and plants, talking in a strange voice as he "looked" for me.

I do not want another repeat of that scenario again.

It was just plain weird.

I was so lost in my train of thought, I almost screamed when Sebastian placed his hand on my mouth, silencing me. I raised his other finger up to his lips, signalling me to stay quiet before pointing his thumb over to the entrance of the temple.

I nodded in reply as he moved his hand away from my mouth. The both of us tiptoed to the arch of the entryway, peeking inside the temple. The room had black flooring and blue walls, with a big circular table in the middle of the room that had a map of the entire World of Disney on it.

And what luck, Hades and his two little henchmen were in the room as well, gathered at the table. Avoiding their gazes, I scanned the rest of the room, my eyes widening when I saw a very familiar face.

Ben was floating inside this light blue orb, his hair and t-shirt flowing as he levitated inside the thing.

"Did you take the scenic route? What took you so long?"

Me and Sebastian flinched when we looked over to the Lord of the Undead. He was staring right at us, waving us inside.

"Come on in, there's no need to be shy."

Sebastian and I exchanged weary glances before stepping into the room. I ran straight for Ben, kneeling in front of the orb he was trapped in as Sebastian stood by the blue flaming demon.

"Is he okay?!"

"Relax, he's fine." Hades assured with a wave of his hand. "If it wasn't for me, he would've been dead!"

"Wait, you saved him?" I asked the demon, turning my head to save him.

"All due respect, how do we know you're not lying?" Sebastian questioned the man.

"Just ask your friend here. He can vouch for me." Hades answered. "In fact, he should be finished up in the healing chamber by now."

Hades walked over to the orb as I took a step back, watching him very closely. He placed his flaming hand on the orb, extinguishing it as the blonde boy fell to his knees and hands.

"Ben!"

Me and Sebastian came to his side, helping the boy up to his feet as he groaned from the sudden fall.

"Are you okay man?" Sebastian asked him. "What happened?"

"Ugh... Ava? Sebastiab? ... Uh, I remember being sucked through the portal... I took a hard hit after falling. There was laughing. A lot of it. When I opened my eyes, I saw a whole series of red beading eyes and black smoke surrounding me..."

"The Dark Anomalies. It has to be them." Sebastian stated.

"What happened next? Hades said that... he saved you?" I asked him, still not quite believing what I said.

"I got hit from the side... the laughing intensified as they stalked towards me... then... then I blue fire just... came out of nowhere, killed them all... and then I saw..."

"Yes?" I pestered.

"... A grey hand reaching out to me... then everything went black." He finished.

I froze with realization, looking over to Hades as I scanned his body. His skin was grey.

"Then... Hades... he did save you." I concluded.

"Guilty as charged." Hades smirked.

"Then, thanks for the save, I guess." Ben thanked, rubbing his shoulder.

"Not a problem." Hades replied.

"Then I was wrong then... if Hades saved Ben from being killed from the Dark Anomalies, there's no way he's their leader." I added.

"Good guess though." The Demon complimented though. "I'm flattered you'd think I would come up with something like this. But you are right about one thing though."

"And that's, what exactly?" Sebastian raised a brow at the demon.

"The Dark Anomalies are coming from the Underworld. The exactly location, I have no flaming idea." Hades grunted as he walked back over to the round table. "I've been using this map to scratch of places that are a no show for them, trying to pin-point the source."

"And nothing so far?" Ben asked him as the three of us joined him.

"Nothing." he shook his head.

"Then I guess Dr. Facilier was right. Wizards and Villains do share a common foe." Sebastian sighed.

"Again, try telling that to Jafar." I muttered crossing my arms.

"Wait, Facilier? What were you doing with Facilier?!" Ben rose his voice, placing his hands on his hips as he glared at the British boy.

"He helped us get down here so we could save you." I stepped between them, placing a hand on the blonde's shoulder. "He was willing to conspire with villains, just to get you back."

"You, really did that for me man?" Ben asked him, his eyes widening.

"Well yeah. You're my best friend." Sebastian answered with a smile.

"Hey there, sorry, can I have your attention? Don't mean to break up the reunion." Hades spoke up, snapping his fingers.

"Sorry Hades," Ben shook his head as the two boys came back to focus. "Go a head."

"Right, anyways, it could take me a while, but I should be able to pin-point the Dark Anomalies origin." Hades explained. "I just need some time."

"If we don't hurry and find them soon, time is something we might not have." Ben warned.

"Let's let Hades do his thing. Here," Sebastian reached into his pants pocket, bringing out a spare communicator, sliding it across the table. "You can use this to keep in touch with us."

"Thank you. Minions, would you be so kind as to show the Wizards out?" He ordered.

"Yes master!" The red and green demons nodded as they dashed for the stairs.

"Wait, I thought there was no way of getting in or out of here, you know? With the portal destroyed?" I recalled.

"Yes that's true, however there is one way to get OUT of here, but not go back in with its use." Hades elaborated. "I would have used it myself but, hey, this is my home and domain. Someone has to stay here and make sure things run smoothly."

"Thank you for your time Hades." I thanked, placing a hand on Ben's shoulder as I took the lead. "Come on guys, let's get back to Star Command."
