Chapter 13
Mal
I entered Jiminy Cricket's office. It looked bigger than I remembered; the large brick fireplace that the villain kids traveled through was in the left corner. Principal Cricket had a large oak desk in the middle of the room with two matching chairs set up. In one chair sat a lady with blonde hair and blue eyes. She wore a long blue dress with long see-through sleeves. Her light blue wings matched the light blue headband she was wearing to pull back her hair. Her light blue eye shadow and black mascara were smudged like she had been crying.
"Your not my mother." I said, "Where is she?"
"Malevolence." Principal Cricket said using my full name.
"What is all this?" I asked.
"Malevolence, we need to show you something." Jiminy Cricket said motioning to the fairy sitting in tears on one of the chairs in front of his desk.
"Ok." I said
"Could you please step into the fire place?" Jiminy asked me.
"What?" I asked
"Walk into the flames please." Jiminy said to me, I looked at the fireplace more closely. Instead of normal yellow flames, the fire was a bright blue. I looked one last time at Jiminy who nodded for me to continue. I closed my eyes and quietly stepped into the flames. A loud rushing sound filled my ears before being replaced by the sound of voices. I opened my eyes to find myself back on the island; I was standing in front of my mother who was having a conversation with the fairy from Jiminy Cricket's office.
"Why did you call me here Maleficent?" The fairy said. My mother and the fairy were standing in the middle of the woods far from the view of the other villains.
"I wanted to tell you a story." My mother started, "Once upon a time in the land of the heroes there lived a fairy. This fairy was known by many heroes and villains alike, one day a law was passed. A law that kept fairies from having children of their own, instead they must serve the children of heroes until those children grow up and have their own children then so on. Now this fairy was known for being the kindest gentlest person ever known. No answer this question for me. How come the most respected fairy in the kingdom broke the old law for her own self desire?" My mother sneered
"I don't know what you're talking about." The fairy said her voice cracking.
"Don't play dumb with me Blue! I know what secret you've been hiding these past few months. I know you have been secretly keeping a child." My mother paused for a moment, "Wait till the council hears about this! You'll be banished just like us on this island. An outcast. You're no better then one of the villains."
"Please don't tell the council!" The fairy begged.
"The Blue Fairy a villain? Is it possible?" My mother ignored the Blue Fairy's helpless pleas.
"Please I'll do anything!" The Blue fairy finally begged dropping to her knees. My mother raised an eyebrow,
"Anything?"
"Anything in my power." The Blue Fairy said gripping onto my mother's black robes.
"I wish to get off this island." My mother said,
"You know that is not in my power."
"I know I tried." My mother said getting an evil look in her eyes she bent down and looked directly into the Blue Fairy's blue eyes.
"I want your baby."
"What?" The Blue fairy looked startled. "People will start asking questions when they see you carrying around a baby."
"That's why for my wish: I want you to grant each villain a child to raise as their own. So you can watch the most evil people in this world have their own descendants while you have none." My mother cackled, "Now I want your baby, or should I say my baby?"
"No."
"Oh Fairy Godmother!" My mother shouted to the sky.
"Fine." The Blue Fairy with tears in her eyes. The Blue Fairy pulled out her magic wand from under her light blue dress and waved her wand. A baby appeared wrapped in a bright white blanket with blue eyes and blonde curls squirmed inside.
"What a beautiful child!" My mother exclaimed as the baby floated over to her open arms. But the Blue Fairy stepped in between my mother and the baby.
"Be a good girl, I hope you find your way back home." Blue whispered in the baby's ear before letting the child float to Maleficent.
"How about be a bad girl, and when she grows up she will discover her true calling and destroy the heroes and their descendants I'll make sure she'll kill you as slowly and as painfully as possible." Mother said with another laugh when she wrapped her hands around the baby
Blue responded by slapping her in the face. Mother staggered back surprised someone would lay his or her hands on the Queen of Darkness. But instead of retaliating with violence mother cackled.
"You can't kill me Maleficent. Or the power of everything good" Blue threatened
"Watch me." With a flick of her hand my mother sent Blue flying backwards and into a tree trunk.
"And one more thing." Mother said looking at the baby. She snapped her fingers, the baby's hair started to turn a shade of dark purple. The baby started to cry as if the magic was hurting her.
"There now every last reminder that she is from the land of the heroes is gone. Her hair will now be purple forever and no light magic from any fairy can change that. Let's go Malevolence." With that my mother dramatically turned her cape and walked off leaving Blue crying at the bottom of the tree. As the setting around me started to fade away I heard one last voice say:
"If you tell anybody about this I will kill you." The last two words "kill you." Kept repeating until I found myself at the mantle of Jiminy Cricket's fireplace. I turned around to face the Blue Fairy. We locked eyes,
"So you're my real mother." I said coldly,
"Yes. In all ways I am your true mother."
"No. I don't believe this, I am Mal the daughter of Maleficent. Not Malevolence the daughter of the Blue Fairy!" I screamed.
"Malevolence could you please calm down." Jiminy Cricket said his small face filled with concern. I stormed out of Jiminy Cricket's office I ran into Ben who tried to stop me but I pushed him off and ran out of the school. I pushed by some students and ran into a deep part of the woods. I needed to ask myself a question: Who actually am I?
Evie
I couldn't deal with Carlos and Jay by myself so I snuck back to my room before I poisoned the two of them.
"Mal?" I called out. No answer. Good, I walked into my room and closed the door. Searching under my bed I pulled out a small dark blue box with black ivory patterns. The box was kept closed by a gold apple lock, the only way to open it was with the gold key I kept around my neck. Using my special apple shaped key I unlocked the box. Inside I kept the only thing that mattered to me inside: A magic mirror that could connect me to my mom wherever she was.
"Magic Mirror on the wall show me the fairest on the Island of them all." The mirror glowed and in an instant I could see my mother relaxing on her throne playing with a blood red apple.
"Mom?"
"Evie darling how's life on the other side of the apple?" My mother asked using her long red fingernails to puncture five deep holes into its core.
"Rotten, we need to hear from you guys before we all go insane." I said,
"Insane?" She questioned,
"Galiana blew up a fish tank, Phoenix almost burned down the school and on top of that Mal is acting differently." I ranted
"Differently?" My mom stood up from her throne. "For example?"
"She's been dressing differently, acting differently and not hanging around the villain kids anymore."
"So she's turning into a royal." My mother smiled evilly "Not surprising considering her origin."
"What are you talking about?"
"You will find out in good time Evie." She said holding her chin up. "But maybe we can use this opportunity to drive a wedge between the Queen and Princess of Darkness."
"And take over the island." I finished; we both did a dramatic evil laugh.
"I don't think we're going to be able to last here much longer." I said trying to stay on topic. "Please when can I come home?"
"Grimhilde?" I heard my mother's name being called.
"It's Maleficent! You'll hear from us soon, remember stay beautiful and remain as always rotten to the core." She flicked her cape and as quickly as she appeared she disappeared and the mirror stopped glowing.
"Evie? Evie are you in here?" I heard Mal calling my name.
"Just a second!" I yelled I heard my bedroom door open. I quickly threw my mirror into the box and shoved it under my pillows.
"Evie, don't freak out."
"Why would I freak out...Oh my Island! Mal! What happened to your hair?" Her hair was a golden blonde making her already clear blue eyes stand out.
"It turned blonde." She said,
"Well can we change it back?" I played with a golden blonde curl between my dark blue painted fingernails.
"I already tried and failed." She said,
"How did this happen?"
"I fell into the river." She said,
"Which river?"
"The one in the woods." She said
"What were you doing there?" I asked
"Spying on Ben and I tripped and fell into the river." The front door to our room slammed open. Evie and I both jumped. We turned to see Jay standing breathless in our doorway.
"Come quick Davyn finished the machine!" Jay practically yelled
"What Machine?" I asked
"A machine that can get us home."
