Chapter 12: Sailor Times

"Yohoho and a bott-l of rum." They sang in a haphazard manner as they wandered aimlessly around the ship.

After sailing so long they forgot which way was up or down or what dry land actually felt like. Deciding long ago this pirate life was far better than any life they had ever known before. Fighting your own crew and sea creatures wasn't easy, but it sure was fun. Plus, starting out it wasn't like they had a choice. Back then it was swab the deck and hoist the sails. A captain doesn't just get to be a captain over night. They did have to pay their dues. Every new crew member to come aboard had to find their place in the pecking order, to stay on top you had to prove you earned it. Things were fine as long as they stayed far from home. Plus, as long as the ship wasn't found by a group of lost boys and their "fearless leader". After this many years that boy was nothing more than a headache. After the loss of the only true captain, things hadn't been the same. Giant squids were less of a challenge when Hook wasn't screaming out orders and cussing out the crew. If only things could go back to how they were...

"Cap'n! Cap'n!" Smey ran into the quarters yelling. "I'll never understand it!" He whispered sorely. "Cap'n! Yeer needed on deck!"

"Can't ye see I'm busy, Smey!" The captain yelled as they sat behind the old oak desk rubbing it's worn wood in remembrance.

"Cap'n! It's him!" He boomed as a hard stomp landed on the deck. The captain stood quickly and charged out the quarter doors.

"Who dare board me ship! Ye foolish ass." The captain boomed.

"Don't you recognize me?" Peter laughed grabbing a sword from a pirate crew member.

"How the hell?!?" The captain boomed as Peter slashed the old worn black coat. "Better question being, do ye recognize me?" They laughed pulling off the coat to reveal the red tattered bandanna.

"No! You can't be her! I refuse to admit..." Peter cried swinging his sword but missing.

"Peter! Why not? Are ye afraid of te truth! Ye failed!" The captain laughed drunkenly.

"You can't be! Your mother has lost her mind looking for you. She told me to find you. Bring you home. I've been away from Neverland for so long, Plink! Just come home!" Peter yelled. His youth worn away long ago. The pain had made wrinkles across his sun stained face. The once vibrant green of his tattered clothes now a faded dark lime. "She told me to look after you!"

"Too bad ye didn't see me... Back in te village... All those moons ago. Ye ass!" She chuckled. "Now yer too late. Tis Captain Pixie Dust, to ye!" She half bowed to look at her old pixie slippers. The only piece that remained of her old life.

"What happened to you, Plink! You used to be a curious dark inventor. Now your nothing but a drunk. Can't even hold a sword." Peter laughed as he swung again knocking the sword out of her hand. "You're a disgrace! Some captain Hook left in charge, huh boys?" He shook his head. "I'm going back." he sighed, thinking happy thoughts of easier times to fly away from the ship as the grown man he had become.

She crumpled to the deck for a moment in tears. Smey sighed, "tis why Cap'n Hook hated da boy. He never gave up. Cap'n, would ye like me ta escort ye back ta yer quarters?" She nodded lightly, before shaking her head and furrowing her brow.

"A Cap'n never sleeps, Smey!" She booms making him smirk.

"Der she is!" He laughs. As she passes him to walk up to the wheel and turn the ship east.

"Where we off to, Cap?"

"Shut up, Smey!" She laughs as he rolls his eyes and gets the crew back to work on daily duties.

"Release the sails men!" She yells. "Homeward!" The cheers outnumbered the crashes of the sea, as they headed a way they hadn't been since the old man passed. She had refused to go back there for so long. The only question she had never considered was if she would make it there or not.
