Facts 3061-3090: Age of Ultron Themed Page

With the North American release of Age of Ultron this weekend, here are some facts and headcannons about the film to celebrate the occasion!

Disney Freaks, Assemble!

Fact #3061

Comic book fans may recognize the "Age of Ultron" title from one in the long (and continuing) "Avengers" series, but the storyline for this film isn't drawn from it. Kevin Feige, the producer, and Joss Whedon, the director, ultimately decided to use the title but the storyline follows several decades' worth of the actual comics.

Fact #3062

The appearance of Quicksilver has been surrounded by controversy from the beginning. Initially, the character was supposed to appear in X-Men: The Last Stand and The Avengers, but Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox faced licensing complexities that forced Quicksilver's omission from both. The studios formed a resolution for the upcoming films that included omitting competitor references and ultimately concluded that Evan Peters, who portrayed Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past, would not be featured in the "Avengers" franchise. Joss Whedon spent nearly a year trying to get Aaron Taylor-Johnson on board as Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver, and he ultimately agreed because his Godzilla co-star, Elizabeth Olsen, would portray his on-screen twin sister, Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch.

Fact #3063

According to Joss Whedon, James Spader was the first and only actor he considered for the role of the Iron Legion drone 05, Ultron. In an interview with Lorraine Cink from Marvel's "The Watcher," Joss Whedon said that Spader has a "hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling while also being very human and humorous." Spader used his natural speaking voice for the role. The cast was so impressed with Spader's performance that they cheered and applauded him after his first take on his first day on set.

Fact #3064

Overall, the film will feature 3,000 visual effects, the most of any Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Guardians of the Galaxy held the previous record with 2,750 visual effects.

Fact #3065

Actor Paul Bettany is responsible for doing the vocals for Tony Stark's A.I. companion J.A.R.V.I.S in past installments of the Iron Man films and beyond. This time however, Ultron chooses to bring J.A.R.V.I.S. to life in a physical android form with a new moniker – Vision.

Fact #3066

Fact #3067

Fact #3068

Hawkeye's Wife, Laura Barton is making a appearance as well. I guess that's why all those BlackWidowXHulk rumors were lurking around.

Fact #3069

Hawkeye received an upgrade to his weaponry. He now has many new arrow tips that serve different purposes. Hawkeye's quiver has also changed — it is more automated and faster loading, and is capable of holding nine arrows.

Fact #3070

An exciting change was also made to Captain America's shield. It now has the ability to be called back, much like the Iron Man suits. Instead of having two handles in the back, the shield now has a magnetic element that clips onto Cap's gauntlet.

Fact #3071

On this film, production designer Charles Wood and his team built an enormous, new Avengers Tower set that is the largest set ever built for a Marvel film.

Fact #3072

The redesigned Quinjet has a more militaristic look this time around and the pilots are now able to have a good look at the environment around them while flying. The design of the canopy was based on a helicopter cockpit with glass in front and below, which will give audiences a tremendous sense of speed when the Quinjet is flying through city airspace. The interior has been stripped down to a more utilitarian, sleek space as well, with many of the luxurious finishes and padding removed for an edgier look.

Fact #3073

Hawkeye is also equipped with a infrared-sighting device and a sonic-sighting device. This should help him keep up with some of the more super-sized heroes that he's fighting alongside with in the sequel.

Fact #3074

A unique asset to the production in Seoul was the use of drones and remote control cars to put the camera in places that could never be achieved by camera operators or helicopters. The production enlisted the expertise of brothers Menstru Pa, who is the Korean National Champion in drone flying, and Pak Min Keu, who is the Korean National Champion in remote car racing.

Fact #3075

Since it is the first time that Thor has ever been seen in party clothes, Byrne worked with Hemsworth to find the right jeans, jacket and shirt that would dress his shape and not look themed.

Fact #3076 (Headcanon)

Headcanon that Laura and Clint meet at a Halloween Party where he is dressed as either Robin Hood,Peter Pan or as Agent Coulson and she is dressed as Velma Dinkley from Scooby Doo.

Fact #3077 (Headcanon)

Pietro and Wanda didn't know when they signed up that they were volunteering for HYDRA, they just took the chance to help fight for their country and improve their own quality of life: tired of living on the streets too poor to eat. By the time Wanda could read them and find out, Strucker and the other scientists had a huge emotional hold over them from the years of abuse and a vice strong case of Stockholm syndrome.

Fact #3078 (Headcanon)

Wanda wants kids. She wants a lot of kids. She wants her kids to have brothers and sisters and she wants to provide them with the childhood she and Pietro didn't get to have.

Fact #3079 (Headcanon)

One time the avengers were having a movie night and they chose snow white but when Natasha walked in on them watching it she had a panic attack because that's what was used to brainwash her in the Red Room.

Fact #3080 (Headcanon)

Bruce and Tony being okay with not being able to lift Mjolnir, because Steve leaves his shield laying around the tower all the time, and really, what's a mythical hammer to being able to pick up and hold the shield of their childhood hero?

Fact #3081 (Headcanon)

Clint and Pietro mocking and teasing each other with "What? You did not see that coming?" whenever they can.

Fact #3082 (Headcanon)

Any Science Bros disputes and disagreements are decided by Bruce and Tony having a POKEMON BATTLE. If Tony wins they do the dumb. If Bruce wins they talk to the team.

Fact #3083 (Headcanon)

Clint Barton is the Archery coach of his local high school. The rest of the district's archery teams hate him his team is unbeatable.

Fact #3084 (Headcanon)

After Ultron, the movie Pinocchio is banned from the Avengers Tower.

Fact #3085

On top of sharing a lab with Stark in the newly christened Avengers Tower, Banner has an apartment all to himself there.

Fact #3086

Since "Age of Ultron" is shifting the origin of its villain to Stark creation, it was only partially surprising to hear Ruffalo refer to The Vision as "my baby." In the comics, Ultron created the hero, played by JARVIS voice actor Paul Bettany in the movie, but it sounds like Banner has a part to play.

Fact #3087

Hulk might talk more, might not.

Fact #3088

As JARVIS, Bettany has been with Downey from the beginning, but he's performed the entirety of his Marvel Studios work from a voice-over booth. Now that he's on set, Downey is taking pleasure in watching Bettany play catch-up in a hot, form-fitting costume. "There is no one I would rather have the delight of seeing in the extreme discomfort than Paul Bettany," Downey said.

Fact #3089

Fact #3040 (A personal fact)
